Parent Tasks part 1

• Starting today: $3 for presentation supplies

• Mid-December: sign and return student topic selection form

• Mid-January: sign up on-line for a day and time for your student’s presentation

• Students need to be at school on time unless they are sick or injured

• Help provide necessary resources early in the quarter

• Attend the presentation

Other ways parents can help!

• Ask your student about their topic!• Encourage them to look for resources from the

children’s section of the Library or other sources for young people

• Listen to your student practice the 5 min. oral presentation

• Ask your student questions about what they presented to prepare for the Q&A portion of the presentation

• Allow the student to decide what changes need to be made

• Please allow students to take full ownership of this project. They will AMAZE you!

What happens during Presentation Week? Students only attend for their personal

appointed time with at least one family member Exceptions are made only for a death in

the family or hospitalization NO regularly scheduled classes occur this

week.

When is Presentation Week?

Presentations are held from

Monday March 7 to Friday March 11

What happens during the Presentation? Students come to their appointment neatly dressed in

concert black with presentation board Child orally presents research to a panel of teachers and at

least one family member Question and Answer- 3-5 minutes of questions from the

faculty panel members to allow students to expand on points made, explain the creation of their board, go deeper into their subject area

Authentic oral feedback is provided by the faculty members. Students will receive their rubric for their oral presentation

the first day they have English after Spring Break

Common questions:When will students get more information on

the presentation requirements? A packet will go home with students the first day

of class after winter break.

Will students have the opportunity to practice their presentation at school before Presentation Week? Yes, students will practice the presentation in class

and get written feedback on both the presentation and the board.

How many resources will my student need? Students are required to have 5 resources. Most

students will need to look through and select from many resources to find the best information, possibly as many as 30. They will then select the best ones to use for their presentation.

Will students have other homework while preparing for their presentation? Yes, there will normal homework for most classes.
