Electriccurrentcanproducemagneticfields,but(changing)magneticfieldscanalsoproducecurrent!

• Workisdoneinpushing themagnetintotheloop.

• Theinducedcurrentintheloopcreatesamagneticfieldthatrepelstheapproachingmagnet.

• Forexample,inthetopfigure, thenorthpoleofabarmagnetispushed towardasingleloop.Thecurrentinduced intheloopproducesamagneticfield thatrepelstheapproachingbarmagnet.

• Inthebottomfigure, whenthemagnetispulledawayfromtheloop, theinducedcurrentproducesamagneticfieldthatattractstherecedingbarmagnet.

• Bothcasesrequireworkinput.Ifyou trytopushamagnetintoacoilwithmoreloops, itrequiresevenmorework.

• Directionoftheinducedcurrentissuchthatthemagneticfieldresultingfromtheinducedcurrentopposesthechangeinthefieldcausedbytheinducedcurrent.
