THEME: THE FAITHFUL GOD DEUT. 7:9

God's choosing of Israel was motivated by His love for them (Deut, 7:7-8). Moreover, God promised to faithfully

keep His covenant and show mercy to generation after generation of “them that love him and keep his commandments” (cf 6:4-9). Not only was God's love contigent upon this response of love and obedience, but

also their prosperity (v13-14), good health, (v15), and military success (v 16).

God promises to keep His commitments to His people “for a thousand generations” (Deut 7:9). He reminds them that He didn't free them because they deserved it or because they were the largest nation on earth, but

because He loved them.

Many people are facing hardships. You may be one of them. In fact, may be life itself has been nothing but one, long grueling hardship for you for as long as you can remember. I pray that something in this writing, and

indeed, in the course of discussing the theme of the year, might bring some comfort for you. There is little else in life that hurts as deeply as feeling as though God is not faithful.

Let's address the very MOST important issue regarding God's faithfulness. The Hebrew word translated

“faithfulness” means “Steadfastness, firmness, fidelity.” The opposite of being faithful is to be ever. Changing or wishy-washy. Faithfulness is an attribute of God. He is the definition of faithfulness in a sense. It is the nature

of God to be faithful and He is. Faithfulness is therefore a characteristic of the body of Christ and one that all Christians should have and practice.

Why should Christians or anyone for that matter, obey God? Why should we trust God and do what He says?

The answer to these and similar questions is simply that God is faithful. Because God is faithful, we van trust Him and therefore obey Him. We are confident in the times of trouble because we known that God is faithful.

The promises of God are real and his faithfulness will never fail us. We have nothing to fear as believers

because the power of God is always with us. Yet those words may ring hollow when you are in a crisis situation. You may be dealing with a serious illness for which there is no cure. You may be struggling with

financial difficulties and don't know where to turn. You may be suffering the pain of a broken marriage or relationship and have lost all hope for the future. Whatever the struggle, it can be hard to stand in your faith

when your circumstance seems hopeless.

We read in proverbs 24:10, “if you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength;” The truth is that those who believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ have limitless power to defect anything that comes

against them. In IJohn 5:4, we are told that everyone born of God overcomes the world. The forces of evil cannot conquer a child of God. The devil himself knows that he is unable to harm a hair on your head, but only

what God permits. And God will only allow that struggle or pain for which He has prepared in advance to bring you through to victory. Each trial we endure is permitted to help us to develop the perseverance that we

need to stay strong in this life so that our faith may be proved genuine.

Christ did not suffer and die to lose the battle. His death paid the price for our victory and it connot be taken from us. It does not matter what trouble you may be expeciencing, God is willing and able to bring you

through it. He alone can turn a painful situation into something that will be used for good with a reward that will last forever.

Here then, is the crux of the whole matter; What God is looking for are people who will be faithful to HIM!

especially in the midst of their trials, like Job was. God may allow you to stay in the painful place you are in emotionally (and may be physically) until you determine within yourself to declare that God is faithful to me,

and that's the beginning and the ending of the matter!

GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS

1. Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father;

there is no shadow of turning with thee;

thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;

as thou hast been thou forever will be.

Refrain:

Great is thy faithfulness!

Great is thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

all I have needed thy hand hath provided;

great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

2. Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,

sun, moon and stars in their courses above

join with all nature in manifold witness

to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth

thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide;

strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,

blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

BIBLE STUDY

9.00 A.M. – 9.45 A.M

TRINITY FOUR

9TH JULY, 2017

Theme: Divine Means Of Healing

Topic: Human Agents (iv): Corporate Prayers Today

Text: Acts 16:16; 12:5.

Aim: i) Understand the essence of corporate prayers;

ii) Learn to stand in the gap with others;

iii) Tackle the challenges of corporate prayers

Introduction

We plan to examine some corporate prayers in scriptures and the

produced. We will also examine clear words of scriptures demanding

corporate prayers with the reasons. We shall futher look at God’s

word concerning the outcome of corporate prayers. What happens

when God’s people pray? We will find in scriptures how an individual

Christian became God’s agent to mobilize crowds and how He used

ugly circumstances to rouse them to pray. This study is meant to

urge us to more corporate prayers.

Study Guide

Part One: Effects of past corporate prayers.

1. Read Acts 12:1-9; Nehemiah 8:1-9. Highlight and discuss

the nature of divine intervention-revival, healing,

deliverance-that attended their corporate prayers.

Part Two: Likely results of corporate prayers today.

2. Read Deut 32:30; II Chron. 7:12-14; Matt. 18:18-20 and

discuss how these biblical principles assure us of great

results from corporate prayers today.

Part Three: Challenges to corporate prayers.

3. Name and discuss possible challenges to corporate prayers,

II Chron. 7:14; Psa. 66:18; Matt. 18:18-20; James 4:1-3.4.

4. Why must we encourage and promote corporate prayers?

Conclusion

God has respect for the prayers of individuals and equallt for corporate

prayers. A three-prolonged fork is not easily broken

(Eccl. 4:9). Cell and church/congregation prayers need therefore be

encouraged for the healing of the land. “If my people”

(II Chron. 7:14).

Food For Thought

When we stay and work together as Christian , there is no enemy who can

defeat us.

Memory Verse - Matt. 18:19, 20.

THE CHURCH: THE LIGHT AND LIFEOF THE WORLD

Ephesians 5:8. In the past you were full of darkness, but now

you are full of light in the Lord. So live like children who belong

to the light. (ERV)

There are things in life that cannot easily be defined because

the nature has made it so. No any other definition can be

given outside of the opposite of itself. It can also be described

by its functions, therefore in a simple way to define light; I say

it is the absent of darkness.

The church can be refer to as the body of Christ or the

believers; or the building in which the Christian faithful

worships. In this context we are not considering the church

as a building or a structure rather we are considering the

church as human beings who are the living and the faithful of

Christ Jesus.

A judge once lived in a little village where he was known to be

a terror and fearless person, his judgement is impeccable and

the guilty before him must die. He sentenced his only son to

death in the bit to uphold justice without blinking an eye.

One day he learnt about another judge who is quintessential

and full of honour, he decided to visit him but on his way he

stepped on something to him of no matter. On his arrival he

saw people playing singing around the judge and he was

greatly displeased that he cannot be better than himself so

the great judge told him a man stepped on another man

valuable and destroyed it; what should we do to him? He

responded he must die because he has put sorrow into

another man’s life so he must face the music. The loving

judge replied you are the one but am setting you free because

you don’t know the worth of what you stepped upon on your

way here. He broke down in tears and changed his ways.

Thomas S. Manson says “if you want to give light to others

you have to glow yourself” the church that is expected to glow

is firing canisters for attraction little should one wonder why

the world is full of darkness. Believers no longer see anything

good in the life of a sinner who comes to church but

condemnation; fast to pass judgment on man rather than

addressing the sin in man to be better.

Light does not take out the structure but the darkness in it.

Let us be like our Master and Lord Jesus Christ who came

because of the sick and not the healthy Mark 2:17. Light is

life, the absence of light is death. Jesus Christ is the light of

the world, in Him, and He in us we glow for the world to be a

better place to live. There are darkness’s in life and there are

lights, and you are one of the Lights, the LIGHT of all lights

that gives life to the world. Let you Light so shine that this

world may be a better place to live.
