Kororoit Creek Primary School has a zero tolerance for any form of child abuse 24 April 2020 Transition to Online Learning I know I have said this repeatedly in my Compass posts however I do want to reiterate my appreciation for your ongoing support during this very strange time. Whilst there has been some hiccups along the way the transition to online learning has been a relatively smooth one. Teachers began planning for online learning weeks before it became our reality so we have reflected on the feedback we have received this past week and have discussed how we can improve this moving forward. We continue to follow the DET online learning guidelines as a Victorian Government School. Online Learning at KCPS will continue to evolve as we reflect on what works and what doesn’t. School Review Due to the current circumstances our school review has been postponed. I will inform our community as soon as I know when alternative dates have been decided. Attendance If your child is engaging in online learning each day they are being marked as ‘present’ at school. If your child has an ‘unexplained absence’ on Compass please either provide a reason by selecting an option on Compass via the dropdown box or contact the office. Enrolments for 2021 Enrolments are now open for the 2021 school year. If you would like to enrol your child please download a form from our website or if you are unable to do that you can come and collect one at the front office. Anzac Day Students will be completing learning experiences via their online platforms to commemorate Anzac Day tomorrow. Our School Captains have also created a short video that is available for our students in their online space. I hope you have an opportunity at some stage to view the video that was posted on Compass by Curtis Goodfellow today. Our wonderful School Captains Swetha and Satvik have produced a thoughtful post to commemorate Anzac Day. Additional resources that you could access at home I have included a couple of resources you might like to have a look at if you are looking for things for your children to do, to listen to or to watch while they are at home. These are completely optional just some ideas that might support you. Two of our amazing students Will and Cameron McGowan were featured on the Channel 7 and Channel 9 news last night after having chosen to spend some spare time they had at home acknowledging the tragedy that occurred on Wednesday

afternoon. What a wonderful act of kindness from these boys and I am sure we all join them in thanking the Victorian police for their service.

Feel Good Friday Whilst I recognise that the transition to online learning has been a challenge for many families, I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the wonderful students at KCPS. Over the past few weeks their work has been turned upside down, their school holidays were different, some may not have been able to see grandparents for some time and they have been unable to connect with their peers and teachers in the classroom as they normally would. I have included some incredible examples of the resilience, kindness and dedication of our students as they adapt to their new online reality. The work that is being uploaded online has blown me away- it has been amazing! I am a very proud of each and every student. Thank you again for your support and please remember to be kind to yourselves throughout this time. Bethany

The Grade 1 students completed a task this week which required them to dress up as a reporter and talk about the weather for today and tomorrow. Malcolm in H08 really went out of his comfort zone and got very creative with the task!

The Grade 1 students completed a writing task yesterday, where they had to brainstorm and write about

all the reasons they feel lucky even in these unusual and sometimes scary times.

Here is one of the responses:

Students in Grade 2 have completed a reflection task, where students self-reflect on online learning. Here are some of H25’s responses: ‘My favourite task this week was reading to my teacher because I haven’t don’t that in a long time’- Nadia ‘Teacher has really good comments and really good feedback’ – Nimrit

‘My favourite task this week was smallest to greatest in maths because I liked how my teacher actually tried to make it hard by confusing us using not the correct numbers’ – Chelsea Here is a picture example of how Steven is feeling about online learning:

H09 making the most of their online learning space… .

Something positive that H29 has really enjoyed this week are themed days. These have been a great way to connect!

Motivation Monday (set a goal for your week) Talent Tuesday (share a talent that you have) Wacky Wednesday (tell a joke) Thankful Thursday (share something you are thankful for) Fun Fact Friday (share a fun fact) H29 has also loved the daily read alouds of their class novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and a picture story book. This has purely been for enjoyment, however some students have posted videos back of them reading.

Viraat used snacks at home to

represent a growing pattern

Tiana got creative by turning an

outline of her foot into a picture of an

elephant

Ella recorded all of the things she is

grateful for (very important during

these trying times)

“My favourite part of online learning is the variety of work and uploading it to Seesaw and

getting feedback from you Megan.” - Will in H46

Alegra from H21 in her learning space!

The students in H48 are loving the read-alouds of their class novel & picture story books.

They love sharing their opinions with one another :)

In French, the Grade 3 students shared recipes from home. They used their knowledge of ‘bossy’ verbs

and ingredients to talk through the steps in French, we couldn’t have been more impressed with their

efforts. There were some very creative recipes.

In French, the Grade 6 students have been informing their teachers about what they are doing in

isolation. They shared their routines in French and captured these moments on video. We love watching

you continue your French learning at home, keep it up!

ART The grade one students have been exploring the various ways to create a

picture. They have been practising a range of qualities needed to be a successful drawer

such as using their imaginations, drawing from observation and experimenting with the

placement of materials and objects to create an image. Students have displayed a range

of techniques and skills such as the ability to draw big, add lots of detail using varied

types of line, shape, colours and make choices about how they would like to display their

work. Some students have even experimented with gathering natural materials in order

to create an image. The quality of work has been outstanding and unique, we look forward

to seeing what you post next.

FRENCH A big ‘Bonjour’ to our online KCPS community. What a wonderful start to the term.

The French team has been so impressed with the students’ efforts (with the support of our wonderful families).

The prep students have begun their first term of French and are experimenting through Seesaw. The year ones

are exploring the story ‘The Three Little Pigs’, they will be creating their own stories towards the end of the

term. The year two students are inquiring into the weather types around the world. The grade threes have

continued their unit on cooking, we have loved hearing the ‘bossy verbs’ and French ingredient words. The grade

four students have commenced a unit that looks into action verbs so they can make their very own board games

towards the end of term. Grade five students will commence their own personal profile over the coming weeks.

Finally, the grade six students are continuing to practise their spoken French. Bonne continuation! Keep it up!

MUSIC The grade 3 students have been inquiring into the central idea of, ‘To create musical

pieces, people need to be creative and innovative’. Students have explored the concept of what it means to be

innovative, how innovation has improved and changed our lives and how we can be innovative within music

creation. Students have been provoked through viewing different graphic scores and how these represent music.

Students began the process of music creation by selecting an artwork and writing an intent statement to explain

what resources they might need and how their music might sound. Once this information was collected, students

then created a graphic score to represent how their music might sound to show their artwork. Their graphic

score needed to be highly organised including a structure, a key, annotations and musical elements.

PE At the start of this term, students from Grade 2- 6 were required to reflect on the athletic events

performed in Term 1. They consolidated their understanding of the correct technique when performing long

jump, high jump, triple jump, discus and shot put. Students watched videos and had to write a detailed

explanation of each event. They recorded this on Seesaw and responded to feedback from their teachers.

Students in Grade Prep and Grade 1 consolidated their understanding of the fundamental motor skills (hopping,

jumping and running) by creating their own obstacle relay race and recording and uploading it on Seesaw. All

students will be transitioning to our new Health and Fitness Unit in Week 3.
