23rd Sunday in Ordinary TimeClick here for today's readings
In today’s second reading from Romans, St. Paul speaks about the importance of love. He
boldly proclaims that we should “owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the
one who loves another has fulfilled the law.” Let us take some time today to reflect on how
we can live out this exhortation as stewards of Christ.
Before we can proceed, we must understand what love is and what it is not. Firstly, love is not
a feeling but rather a choice that we must make each and every day. The classical definition of
love is willing the good of the other. So in order to love, we must not look towards our own
needs but to the needs of others. It is essentially a lens of stewardship that seeks to use our
own gis to serve our neighbour.

However, in order to express our love we must move past merely willing the good to actually
doing the good for others. St. Gregory the Great says that "the proof of love is in the works.
Where love exists, it works great things. But when it ceases to act, it ceases to exist." So in
order to love, we must concretely choose to perform loving acts that will the good of the
other. Let us reflect on how we can practice this within our parish community.
Stewardship in Action
Part of what makes Sacred Heart Church so
delightful is the beautiful garden, constantly
in bloom with seasonal flowers. We would
like to thank Mary Swailes, Margaret Swailes,
Betty Sears, Marg Robinson and Donna
Trombley (pictured le to right) who cleaned
the grounds and planted the flower beds
this year - such a wonderful act of
stewardship for the parish.
Online events this week
We are all facing challenges... health, family, work, financial, school... you name it. All with no
playbook, no precedent, nothing to fall back on. It's totally new, and let's be honest,
unnerving.
During this Sept 12 online meet up, Cardinal Collins and Dr. Josie Lombardi will explain
exactly how you can personally Rise Up! to meet your own personal challenges this
fall/winter.
It is so critical that we as Catholic moms stay strong and united in Jesus. We have a number of
surprises planned, during the event. It's going to be inspiring, prayerful, informative and fun!
