II Jai Guru Dev II

Dear Dhyanabandhus,

September 2013

On 17th of this month, we are

celebrating Guru Nanak's birthday.

Guru Nanak (1469-1539) was one of

the greatest religious innovators of

all time and the founder of the Sikh

religion.

Nanak did not subscribe to blind

ritualism or mindless superstitions.

He believed that there was just one God, who was almighty omnipresent

and all encompassing. The chanting of whose name, and a life of purity

and charity would lead to freedom from the cycle of birth and death. He

believed in the theory of Karma and Rebirth. He spread Sikhism to

Burma, Iraq, Tibet and Sri Lanka as a message of love. The 'Japji Sahib':

'Japji' means morning prayer. He has composed a set of poems that form

the first chapter of the Sikh scripture and holy book - the Guru Granth

Sahib. These poems talk about meditations and thoughts from his

teachings, and serve to inspire many - a - Sikh to live a good life,

following the basic principles of prayer, right living and thinking and

the Unity of God and our fellow beings.

Guru Nanak travelled to places everywhere teaching people the

message of one God who dwells in every one of God's creations and

constitutes the eternal Truth He setup a unique spiritual, social, and

political platform based on equality, fraternity love, goodness, and

virtue.

Poojya Guruji Answer Your Questions

Q1. Pl give details of

families who survived

Bhopal gas tragedy .

Ans 1. It happened on

03.12.1984 mid night at

around 1.30 a.m. when

there was a gas leakage

f rom Union Carbide

Corporation in Bhopal. The lucky

families who survived the disaster due to

Agnihotra is given in the article written

in “The Hindu” published on 07-04-

1985. Sri S M Gushwasa and family, ML

Rathar and family are the persons who

survived in this tragedy without any

adverse impact.

Q 2. Is there a difference between

death, end of life and Mukthi ?

Ans 2:There is a difference. In death

there is an unfulfilled desire which

makes you take birth again. End of life

is very painful exit. Mukthi or liberation

is totally different. When you are desire

less and leave this body very peacefully,

meditat ion and what is the

qualification required for it ?

Ans 3: In the creation there are only two

varieties – male and female. All other

categorization is man made. Always the

mind tries to live in duality and the one

who conquers it to reach non duality,

attain God hood. There is no bar on any

caste, religion in Ashram. You can

definitely attend the meditation camp.

Q 4. When I am experiencing

absolute peace from within when I

meditate, why does tears roll down.

When there is peace why tears ?

Ans 4: They are the tears of joy

you are liberated.

Q3. I am a Muslim. I

came here with myfriend

and meditated for 15

minutes. I experienced a

state of peace and

blissfulness. Can I learn

Page 5: 2.30 pm Mruthyunjaya Homa & Night meditation from 9.00 pm ...yogashram.in/magazines/NOV2013.pdfSangeet Sandhya from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm 18th Public Meet 30th Mruthyunjaya Homa from

(Ananda Bhashpa). When you are filled

with bliss, every cell vibrates with

ecstasy and joy which stimulate the

glands in the eye. Tears are quite natural

in this circumstances.

Q5. I am trying to get ' Devanubhava'

- an Experience of God. I believe

that there is a divine power within

everybody. Can you explain as to how

it is ?

Ans 5: GOD is a word used for a

complete experience of bliss and

absolute Love. It is an eternal flow

which can be seen in the entire

Brahmanda– Universe. It is manifested

and can be seen in the rising sun, Sun

set, mountains, forest, river, in the

beauty of fa falls, running deer, dancing

peacock, flying butterfly and every

where. When it does not come to your

experience, these are only mere words

making sound.

Q6. Please explain “Atma” and

“Paramatma”

Ans 6: There is only one GOD

manifested in crores and crores of

beings. The ultimate Truth is God

alone. Atma is part and parcel of

Paramatma, just like a finger in your

body. Our knowledge is very limited

and there are thousands of crores of

Earths with beings which cannot be

comprehended with our intellect.

Atman is that force of Paramatha which

works in all the beings as a

representative of Paramathman. We

are all the players in the hands of

Paramathma and we have come here to

perform our role. We get a particular

' j anma ' on the bas i s o f our

qualification/ eligibility / merit and

intelligence is given to break the

Karmic chain which is binding us.

If you act in accordance with the

guidance of Atman, it is easy to break

this cycle of birth caused out of

ignorance. We do not falter when we

concentrate on Atman in every aspect

of our life. When we meditate, observe

the Center of Heart which is “Atma

Sharira” and you will progress. The

true Guru resides within us and all the

Gods. Ask yourselves the questions

and direct it to the Heart centre

“Hridaya Kamala”, you are bound to get

Page 6: 2.30 pm Mruthyunjaya Homa & Night meditation from 9.00 pm ...yogashram.in/magazines/NOV2013.pdfSangeet Sandhya from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm 18th Public Meet 30th Mruthyunjaya Homa from

instant answers if there is submission

and surrender.

Q7. Please tell the method of

achieving peace of mind.

Ans 7: Peace is something which is

within us and not available from outside.

How to know the peace inside ? It is only

through meditation. It is a process of

cleansing the mind. Meditation,

chanting Omkara would cleanse the

mind and remove the Vikaras

(negativities) hidden deep inside. When

they come out rapidly, you need the

guidance of a Guru. Keep going when

you can feel intermittent spells of peace

and it will become eternal one day. You

need not actually experience peace; but

you become peaceful. Try to meditate

constantly to achieve this and to get

liberated.

Q8. They say, that by getting

iniciated by a Guru, the disciple is

reborn (punarjanma). Please explain

the meaning.

Ans 8: What is initiation or Deeksha ? It

is one step ahead of “Upa - nayana”.

While initiating the disciple, the Guru

touches the forehead and channelize the

energies in him. If the disciple has

surrendered himself, he can receive the

energy; otherwise it is only a touch

without any use. When this energy

runs through the disciple, the

navadwaras (nine entry/exit points in

the body) of the disciple gets locked and

through Agna chakra on the forehead,

Kundalini shakthi flows by opening up

the inner eye (Upa nayana). This can be

called as re birth since he completely

leads a new life after initiation.

Q9. When I sit for meditation, I feel

flow of electricity from Mooladhara

and upwards. This energy flows out

in the form of light. What does this

indicate ?

Ans 9: During meditation, the magnetic

/ electric waves which are felt raising

from Mooladhara due to Kundalini

shakthi being awaken. As per science,

these are Alpha waves which help the

mind free from thoughts and allow you

to go into deep meditation.- Yogacharya

Indian cows is superior to any other

cow's milk from abroad. He emphasized

the need to protect the rare Indian breed

of cows which are under the threat of

extinction. The physical and mental

health of the present generation is

deteriorating when compared to the

earlier generations; it is mainly because

of the depletion of pure Indian cow's

milk. He stressed the need to protect the

divine Cows which were worshiped by

the Lord Krishna Himself.

I have written my experiences to

Guruji because I know only he can

understand. I was put in hot burning fire

to come out as real GOLD, not even a

molecule of dust attached, and for this

experience a MASTER is required, a

teacher will not do.

I have known Guruji very closely.

He is no ordinary soul. You and I are

blessed to get a direct feel and touch of

Guruji as nowadays this is not possible

with other masters and teachers. If the

world knows him, it will become a chaos;

maddening crowd will gather around for a

darshan of an Enlightened Master. He

knows what is………

Ever knowing, as they hide they seek,

Appearing other than they are,

To the ordinary man;

In inward light they roam, making

Miracles come to pass,

Yet they are really known –

To none ……………. Sufi saying

Meditators, be awake and aware, He is a

guiding light, the path, the way , a soul

who has reached great lights, he is none

other than the ULTIMATE – Supreme

I am not a believer and my

teachers and masters on this spiritual

path have always taught me to reason

out for myself. Various questions come

on the path and answers follow as I move

on. I never questioned my teachers, as

the path was clear, meditation is the only

way. KNOW THYSELF, the saying of

Christ, the master teacher, I follow him

but not the Christian ways— rituals. I

follow Krishna but not the rituals. Their

teachings are so simple, but we have

“Don't renounce

the world, renounce

ignorance”

- Angelo Dias

Page 12: 2.30 pm Mruthyunjaya Homa & Night meditation from 9.00 pm ...yogashram.in/magazines/NOV2013.pdfSangeet Sandhya from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm 18th Public Meet 30th Mruthyunjaya Homa from

made them complicated. Their teaching

was love - but how to love? I don't love

myself. Does only meditation opens the

path of love and devotion? You will not

only love your family but the whole

human race. If someone is harmed, you

will be affected and the effect will be all

around so we will stop harming others

even the non-humans, a feeling of love

and compassion will rise for one and all.

My experience was different and vast as

I had two Atma Vidya courses to my

credit. I came to realize that MIND was

playing the game of emotions. I was so

attached to the MIND, but mind is not I.

I am something else; I became a witness

of the whole show. Mind became

detached from me, a different

compartment, a computer stored of all

the things, past and future. But this

Mind had become the master and was

running the day-to-day business of

mundane life, making me uneasy with

anger, greed, attachment and lust.

Now I know I should not be

carried away by the mind (thoughts). I

have to use it and use it in a right way.

Mind is a culprit which brings me again

and again into birth-life-death cycle. I

have to break this cycle movement of life

giving force and go to the ultimate

supreme from where we have come. I

have created myself; it is not that GOD

MADE ME. Sorry Sir, this is my truth,

my realization. Death has no power over

me. Let there be celebration everywhere

now and even as I part.

With great devotion to Guruji

and all my friends and all those who have

helped me on the path of love.

Quotes corner“To enjoy good health, to

bring true happiness to

one's family,to bring peace

to all, one must first

discipline and control one's

own mind.

If a man can control his

mind he can find the way to

Enlightenment, and all

wisdom and virtue will

naturally come to him”.

November 2013

In society, power- political and social -

commands respectability and adoration.

Some acquire power with the intention

of uplifting the society with their sincere

social work. But there is another type

who tenaciously pursues power, ready to

do any thing to acquire the same. They

are least bothered about virtue and sin.

Their concern is only towards dame,

dime and fame-the insatiable hunger of

vane pride.

Even during the epochs of epics rivulets

of blood had flown for power. Cold war,

economic war and physical war have

taken place among the kiths and kins.

Nay, it is not the misdeed of the power or

the wealth that accompanies it. Power

clamors “use me for good” and wealth

warns “your life becomes hell if you

misuse me”. But the stubborn man does

as he wishes paying no heed to these

messages. He even induces others to

follow his evil path. Let the mind be

inhuman, the conscience, a burial

ground. Let the sins increase a hundred

fold; he wants to stroll like a king with

power and wealth. Sin and virtue are

pusillanimous in front of them. There

are no deeds undone, no tricks unplayed

by men to ride on power. Despite these

wealth and achievement, there is no

peace of mind. Life is lifeless! This

world as well as the next world is hell.

God's very existence seems to be

dubious on seeing some sinners

strolling in power and pelf, while many

who went after virtue suffer pain and

grief. But it requires right time and

opportunities for the seeds of sins

sowed now, to germinate and grow into

trees, blossom and bear fruits of

poison. Many still do not know that

what they enjoy is the fruits of their

deeds of earlier lives.

One of my friends, who has stepped

into power recently for the first time,

has this to say.

“This work is not apt for people like us.

Dharma and Adhikara

(Political Power)

- Sri Ramdas

Page 14: 2.30 pm Mruthyunjaya Homa & Night meditation from 9.00 pm ...yogashram.in/magazines/NOV2013.pdfSangeet Sandhya from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm 18th Public Meet 30th Mruthyunjaya Homa from

November 2013

One cannot act as per conscience. They

want us to sign the undone work as

completed, as the very senior officers are

hand in glow with them. What can we

do? There is problem if we don't sign.

They say that things have been going

like that. Work will be finished in due

course. None in the office co-operates

with me. I don't get peace of mind.

Guilty consciousness haunts me always.

How to continue in this work?”

Then the other persons say.” We have to

adapt ourselves to the changing times.

To get this job how much bribe I have

given. I have to recover it all along with

interest. Hence I too take the wrong

path, and console myself saying that I

just recover what I paid.”

Man has in him the qualities of both

Dharma and Adharma. Both are very

powerful. While doing any work, the

spiritual light in him, which is in

dormant state, flashes giving a message

and vanishes. Actions happen as per

their respective prarabdhas. Being

innocent and pure like flower at birth, as

they grow up, they develop varied

mentality depending upon the

environment and genes. When the

power comes to their hands they make

people work for 7 days and give them

just 6 day's wages. Even in the present

millennium there are people who take

labor without paying wages. One need

not explain how these are all feasible.

The bonds of rules and regulations are

not applicable to them. How many

such instances take place in our own

villages?

Leaders interfere in even punishing the

culprits. Why, even they accord their

protecting hands to the criminals who

hunt rare wild animals and exhibit

their skins in their drawing room!

Prior to our getting independence the

seats of power were valuable. Then we

were slaves. There was a time when

people ran away on seeing the red cap

of the policeman. Then the dictums of

the police were running high. But even

now behind the curtain the political

power pulls the string. Though man

has education and intellect, the poverty

Page 15: 2.30 pm Mruthyunjaya Homa & Night meditation from 9.00 pm ...yogashram.in/magazines/NOV2013.pdfSangeet Sandhya from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm 18th Public Meet 30th Mruthyunjaya Homa from

November 2013

prevents him from fighting his pride.

So he silently suffers everything. Pride

is the illusion that engulfs us. This it

self is the seed of our destruction too.

Hence eschewing it, moving in the

proper path along with others, enabling

others to tread the correct path, is the

only way for our perfection. Know

Adharma and all its shortcuts. But be

strong enough not to tread on those

shortcuts. When all paths are studied,

do introspection- have I lost the path?

Never sit worried brooding “If

deviated from the correct path, whether

I can regain the correct path?” There is

nothing impossible. Have confidence

in the supreme power dormant in you.

Use a bit of it as an experiment. You

will find it incredible. There is a native

song “If you sit idle, thinking it is not

possible, no work will go ahead. If

there is a will there is a way. Only we

have to have will, an iron will”

We all dream of 'Rama Rajya'. How Sri

Rama, who was an autocrat, was using

his power? How tight was the nation's

security net work? After ascertaining

the chastity of Sita through 'Agni

pareekshe' he brought her as his queen,

but after hearing the words uttered by a

washer man, informed to him as it is by

his secret agents, excommunicated his

queen. Imagine ourselves in his seat of

power! His very capacity to understand

what happens in the houses of his

subjects obviates the necessity of any

further explanation as to how

efficiently he was ruling the kingdom.

Can such a time com in this “Kali

Yuga?” Certainly it is possible. Because,

time never changes. But we do change.

This fact is to be understood.

Perched on the seat of power, you

attract the attention of all. Even small

mistakes are magnified and branded as

crime. Obsessed with the power of the

and fall down like a bird whose wings are cut. What happened to Hitler and

Mussolini who, denouncing Dharma, ventured to strut like dictators? Real

happiness cannot be obtained through dame and dime and fame. It is an illusion to

think so like swimming against the current of Dharma. There is no other path.

Swamy Vivekananda has asserted that there are certainly people who can bring

forth overall development through the path of Dharma and sincere efforts. He

proclaimed “You are they! Arise, awake stop not till the goal is reached. Crores have

died for power, crores for desire, crores for enticement and crores for dame, dime

and fame. But how many are there who died treading the virtuous path? All those

who died treading the path of virtue have enjoyed bliss the real happiness and made

their life a success. Let us move in their path. When Dharma combines with power

then only one can become “Dharmadhikari”

a murderer". Tulsi called him to his

house, gave him sacred food which had

been offered to the Shri and declared

that the murderer was purified. The

Brahmins of Varanasi reproached

Tulsidas and said, "How can the sin of a

murderer be absolved? How could you

eat with him? If the sacred bull of

Siva—Nandi—would eat from the

hands of the murderer, then only we

would accept that he had been purified".

Then the murderer was taken to the

Some thieves came to Tulsidas's Ashram

to take away his goods. They saw a blue-

complexioned guard, with bow and

arrow in his hands, keeping watch at the

gate. Wherever they moved, the guard

followed them. They were frightened. In

the morning they asked Tulsidas, "O

venerable saint! We saw a young guard

with bow and arrow in his hands at the

gate of your residence. Who is this

man?" Tulsidas remained silent and

wept. He came to know that Shri Ram

Himself had been taking the trouble to

protect his goods. He at once distributed

all his wealth among the poor.

Tulsidas absolved a murderer from

his sins

temple and the bull ate from his hands.

The Brahmins were put to shame.

Wanderings & Miracles

Tulsidas once went to Brindavan to

visit the temples of Shri Krishna.

Seeing the statue of Krishna, he said,

"How shall I describe Thy beauty, O

Shri! But Tulsi will bow his head only

when You take up bow and arrow in

Your hands". The Shri revealed

Himself before Tulsidas in the form of

Shri Ram with bow and arrows.

It is believed that Tulsidas's blessings

once brought the dead husband of a

poor woman back to life. The Moghul

emperor at Delhi came to know of the

great miracle done by Tulsidas. The

emperor asked the saint to perform

some miracle. Tulsidas replied, "I have

no superhuman power. I know only the

name of Ram". The emperor put Tulsi

in prison and said, "I will release you

only if you show me a miracle". Tulsi

then prayed to Hanuman. Countless

bands of powerful monkeys entered the

royal court. The emperor got

frightened and said, "O saint, forgive

me. I know your greatness now". He at

once released Tulsi from prison.

Last Days

Tulsi left his mortal body and entered

the Abode of Immortality and Eternal

Bliss in 1623 A.D. at the age of 91. He

was cremated at Asi Ghat by the Ganga

in the holy city of Varanasi (Benaras).

There will be “Sangeet

Sandhya Dhyana” (From

music to meditation) every

month with Bhajans &

Classical music conducted

in presence of Poojya

Guruji between 2pm to 5pm

on third Sunday of every

As human beings, we like to express

ourselves in so many ways through the

tanmatras or inferences of sound, touch,

taste, form, and smell. We get joy from

the many inferences we receive from the

external world. We exclaim in joy,

“How tasty this dish is! How delightful

its aroma! But our capacity to assimilate

these tanmatras is limited. For example a

very loud or soft sound cannot be

perceived by the ear. We can perceive

only the medium range of tanmatric

vibrations. The Buddha called it

“majhima maga”, the middle of the road.

Those of you who play string

instruments are aware that if the

strings are tuned too high they will

break, and if they are too loose they

can’t produce proper notes.

Although the human mind can be

compared to the strings of an

instrument, it would be more precise to

compare it with a cloud which fills up

Scientific Expansion Of Mind

the sky, bringing all objects within its

domain. How does the mind expand?

Imagine there is a tiny patch of cloud in

a corner of the sky. Gradually it

expands its size until it covers the whole

sky. This is ectoplasmic expansion.

As the mind expands in all directions, it

brings all objects within its periphery. It

is essential for the mind to maintain

perfect adjustment between itself and

objects. The mind always seeks an

object and jumps from object to object

depending on the degree of attraction.

Take the case of this bolster beside me.

If I pick it up and move it from left to

the right will the mind remain

associated with it for the entire duration

of its movement? The mind is more

attached to having the bolster on the

right side than the left because that will

be more comfortable, and thus its

preoccupation is with putting the

bolster on the right. But this is not so in

the case of Parama Purusha.

Whenever the Supreme mental sphere

increases, numerous entities emerge

within, remain in a state of flow for

some time and subsequently dissolve

back to the Source. Microcosms which

are created, maintained and dissolved

wi th in the Cosmic Mind are

qualitatively almost the same manner as

Parama Purusha, but they differ

quantitatively.

The Cosmic Mind is vast; the unit mind

is tiny. The unit mind only expands in

the ectoplasmic sphere, like the cloud

filling the sky, and in the process brings

other unit minds within its sphere of

c o n t r o l . W h e n i t e x p a n d s

tremendously it can also assert some

influence on the Cosmic Mind.

Suppose two people, A and B, have small

minds. After practice of deep

meditation A succeeds in expanding the

periphery of his unit mind and can

influence the mind of B. Not only that,

he can also influence the vast mind of

Parama Purusha. This endeavour for

mental expansion is called vidya tantra.

The scientific process of expansion of

mind is called tantra. Tantra literally

means to attain liberation through

expansion. Suppose you are sitting

immobile in one place having been

bound by ropes. Now you can either free

yourself by cutting the rope with a

knife, or by taking such a deep breath to

expand the chest that the rope snaps.

On the path of tantra one expands the

mind to snap bondages of vrittis, ripus,

pashas, and so on. This is the goal of

vidya tantra. -Courtesy Speakingtree.in

The common cold is an ailment that

affects us not just during the winter, but

also at other times of the year and it can

be quite a draining experience. There

are a few natural remedies that you can

use as soon as you feel a bout of flu or

cough coming on so that you do not

suffer too much.

Keep garlic handy:

With its powerful antioxidants, garlic is

one of the best protective against cough

and cold. If you feel a mild earache, it

could be a result of congestion due to

the cold. For such conditions, lightly

crush a clove of garlic, wrap it in clean

cotton and place it in the ear but not so

far in that it accidentally gets pushed

inside.

For cough and cold, take about 4-5

cloves of garlic, lightly crush and sauté

in a little ghee and consume.

Alternatively, you may also juice four

cloves of garlic, two tomatoes, and a

lemon to make a delicious antibacterial

and antiviral drink. Some people

combine these same ingredients in a

blender to prepare a tomato and garlic

soup with a little rock salt if necessary.

Treat with turmeric:

Turmeric is rich in curcumin and

volatile oils that have a protective as

well as therapeutic action in persons

suffering from cough and cold. As soon

as you feel a scratchy sensation in your

throat that indicates the onset of a sore

throat or cough, make it a practice to

use turmeric to avoid aggravating the

problem. The easiest way of using

turmeric is to drink hot milk into which

you have mixed in a little quantity of

turmeric.

Some people also prepare a tea using

turmeric. Boil 4 cups of water, mix in 1

tablespoon of turmeric powder and

keep for 10 minutes. Strain using a fine

strainer if necessary, and then mix in a

little honey and lemon – your medicinal

turmeric tea is ready.
