(NAPSI)Peanut oil could be your se-

cret to a crisp and juicy turkey this holiday

    season.

Consider this: While turkey is the fa-

vorite holiday meal for most Americans,

    traditional roasting methods take hours

and can result in a dry, tasteless bird. Fry-ing your turkey in peanut oil, however,

takes just minutes and results in crisp skin

and moist, tender meat, and lets you spend

    more time with your family.

One reason is that peanut oil has such

a delicious nutty flavor; it can get you a

flavorful turkey every time. You can even

reuse peanut oil three or four times to add

great taste to all your side dishes, because

it doesnt absorb flavors from food that

its fried in. Refined peanut oil is also the

preferred oil for turkey frying thanks to itshigh smoke point, which lets foods cook

quickly without absorbing much of the fat

    and calories from the oil.

In addition to producing a flavorful tur-

key, peanut oil is loaded with nutrition. Its

trans fat-free, cholesterol-free and low in

saturated fat. It contains high amounts of

monounsaturated fat, vitamin E and phy-

tosterols, all of which can help decrease

the risk of heart disease. Also, the FDA

says refined peanut oil is completely aller-

    gen-free.

    Meanwhile, by frying your turkey,

Crispy-Juicy Fried Turkeyyoull free up valuable oven space for the

    rest of your holiday feast.

    Crispy-Juicy Fried Turkey

    Makes 4 servings

    1 whole turkey

    1 tablespoon of salt

1 teaspoon of black pepper1 teaspoon of garlic powder

2 tablespoons of your favorite dry rub

3 to 4 gallons of 100 percent peanut oil

    (enough to cover the turkey)

    Directions:

Wash bird inside and out and allow it

to drain. Rub turkey with the salt, pepper,

garlic and dry rub. Allow turkey to sit at

room temperature for 1 hour or until com-

pletely thawed and dry. Preheat peanut oil

in an outdoor or countertop turkey fryer to

350F. Make sure there is no moisture onthe skin and carefully lower turkey into

hot oil either in a fryer basket or using a

sturdy tool inserted into the chest cavity.

Submerge the turkey completely. Fry tur-

key for 3 minutes per pound plus 5 minutes

per bird. Internal temperature should reach

165F. Remove turkey from the oil and let

    sit 20 minutes before serving.

    recipes from celebrity chefs, instructional

videos, and nutritional information ondeep-frying in peanut oil.

    A fascinat-ing display ofRussian Nest-ing Dolls, also

    known as Ma-tryoshka Dolls,

are currently be-ing showcased, through the endof December, atthe historic C.F.Lott Home inOroville. Thesewooden dolls ofdecreasing size

are placed inside each other and arealways constructed from one block ofwood in order to create a proper fit.The first Russian nesting doll set wascarved in 1890 and was displayed in1990 at the Exposition Universelle in

Paris, where the doll earned a bronzemedal. Soon after, Matryoshka Dollswere made in several places in Russiaand shipped around the world.

Production involves use of a turninglathe, along with various woodcarvingknives and chisels. First, the smallestdoll (which cannot be taken apart) ismade on a turning lathe, and its sizeand shape will determine that of thelarger dolls. Next, the bottom andtop halves of the next dollare made separately, with a ring on thebottom made to fit

into an inset onthe top portionand the proce-dure continueson. No mea-surements aremade duringthis process; siz-ing to fit is doneby eye. After allthe dolls for the set are

made, which is based onthe size of the largest doll, they aretreated, colorfully painted and coated, before nesting them inside one anoth-er. A Matryoshka Doll set consists ofat least five dolls.

Traditional Matryoshka Dolls usual-ly follow a theme in their design from

(NAPSI)If any of the estimated55 million American schoolchildren isone you care about, you may be gladto learn about plans in place to keepthem safe.

Todays school leaders face unprec-edented safety and security challenges,

whether from unwelcome intrudersor natural disasters. Such risks makeit essential for schools to stay currenton the latest advances in construction, technological tools and safety proto-cols.

Three Steps To Better Secure YourSchool NowMany parents ask about school se-

curity measures to make sure class-rooms are safe.

Parents who are actively involvedin their students school security canimprove their childs safety and suc-cess on campus, explained Patrick V.Fiel, Sr., head of PF Security Consult-ing LLC, who served as the former

Executive Director of Security forWashington D.C. Public Schools and

Keeping Kids Safe In The Classroom:What Parents Should Know (And Do)

For Peace Of Mindhas extensive experience upgradingschools to meet todays security stan-dards.

Following are three practices everyschool should and can doregardlessof available budget:

    1. Plan and Prepare. Even the high-

est security technology is ineffectivewithout proper training and prepara-

tion. Actions should be clearly defined, documented and practiced regularly.Staff and students should know exactlywhat to do and where to go in the case

of emergency. For example, in case of a lock-down:

Lock down campus building andresidence hall entries.

Stay in the classroom or move to asafe area immediately.

Quickly glance outside the room todirect any students or staff members inthe hall into your room immediately.

    Lock your door.

Lower or close any blinds. Place students against a wall where

Schools with open campuses haveother challenges. Although a campus-

wide lockdown may not always bepractical or even possible, individualbuildings and classrooms can be se-cured.

    2. Stay Focused on Proven and Reli-able Practices. Untested technologies

such as makeshift door barrier tacticscan block first responders from enter-

ing the classroom, said Fiel. Havingeasy access to enter and exit the class-room will help to safely and efficientlysave the lives of students and providecare to those who need immediate at-tention.

    3. Develop a Lockdown Strategy.Allegion, known for pioneering safetyand security solutions for schools anduniversities, has security consultantswho suggest having tools in place tomanage comings and goings at eachdoorway so it can lock down on de-

mand immediately. Three proven lock-down technologies are:

Manual lockdownuses keys andclassroom security functions to lockdown a space. This is an economicaloption but relies on an individual hav-ing the right key at the right place.

    Remote lockdownenables class-

room lockdown by remote fob withinproximity of a door. It can be a cost-

    effective alternative to a networkedsystem.

Centralized lockdownthis net-worked system, when integrated withaccess control software, can enableimmediate school or campuswidelockdown.

In many cases, facilities may needmodification to create more efficientsecurity systems. This may involve in-stalling new locks, such as those createdby Allegion, that offer a classroom se-curity function that enables lockdownsafely from within the classroom; oreven architectural modifications, suchas the addition of new vestibules.

    Spotlightby: Morgan Williams

Since the signing of the Declara-

tion of Independence on July 4, 1776,

the world has progressed in such a

way that the founders, to one degree

or another, may or may not have en-

visioned when they sought to declare

    independence from the British. With

that changing climate has also brought

about instances in which that veryfreedom has been put to the test and

in that case, has required immediate

    attention and expedient action. From

the American Revolution to the current

    global effort toward combating terror-

ism, it has been up to those who hold

the duty of representing their nation in

the Armed Forces, to step forward and

use whatever means necessary in or-

der to try and prevent the destruction

of safety and security of this nation asa result of the efforts of those that seek

to disturb it and in many ways, destroy

    it completely.

In the changing climate of the world

around us, November brings about a

day in which we seek to honor those

that continue to place their lives on the

line for the sake of preserving the safe-

ty and security of the homeland. A day

to recognize the sacrifices made by the

men and women of the Armed Forcesbut also, in that respect, to consider the

sacrifices that their families make, in

terms of the very real investment each

make in this case. The investment of

placing your life on the line for your

family, for your friends, for your

country as a whole and in the end, the

investment made on the part of the

families of these servicemen, as they

are faced with the very real fear and

trepidation that comes with the timespent worrying about the well being of

a loved one that is serving away from

    home in unknown circumstances.

Very similar to the meaning behind

    Memorial Day, Veterans Day also

serves as a reminder that the cost of

obtaining the objectives set forth by

those in power, is paid through the

service of those that put on their ser-

vice uniforms and boots before they

kiss their loved ones farewell and be-

gin their pursuit of achieving the end

goal that everyone hopes for. That is,

    (NAPSI)Preparing a mouth-wa-

tering holiday meal is a monumentaltask, but one that can be simplifiedeasily to avoid a meal-time flop. Gen-erally, the biggest problem in kitchensis dull knives. Beginning stages ofcooking start with cutting raw food, and serving often requires cutting andslicing. When the knife is dull, the be-ginning steps are onerous and the end-ing stages are awkward, and because

you have to press harder to make theknife move through the food, fingers

    are often cut.

It follows then that a sharp knifeis critical for preparing the meal andcarving the bird. If it is a holiday andthe chef mauls the bird, you knowwhat to do. There is no better holidaypresent than a set of sharp knives and asharpener to keep them that way, says

Michael Ruhlman, well-known au-thor, food blogger, cook and journalist

whose mission is to translate the chefscraft for every kitchen.

Roasting And CarvingThe Holiday Bird Just Right

    Ruhlman and ChefsChoice, lead-

ing manufacturer of quality electricknife sharpeners, have teamed up topresent the perfect Thanksgiving bird...from cooking to carving.

    ChefsChoice Turkey-CarvingTips: Three Easy Steps

Step 1: Sharp knives are not onlysafer, they will help you smoothly cut

thin, even slices without shreddingthe meat. Fortunately, you dont have

to be an expert to put a razor-sharpedge on your knife. A sharpener suchas ChefsChoice EdgeSelect 120can make sharpening easy. The sharp-ener uses 100 percent diamond-coateddisks (2.5 karats worth of diamonds!)and a polishing stage to create a du-rable, arch-shaped edge in seconds.Precision guides eliminate guesswork

for predictable, professionally sharpedges every time. For help finding asharpener thats right for you, call 800-342-3255 or visit www.chefschoice.com. You can also access additionalrecipes at http://www.edgecraft.com/chef1.html. Now you are ready to be-gin to cook.
