Quick Write:This sweatshirt from the University of Minnesota – Duluth is $70.
The sales tax in Duluth is 7.875%.

Red (4): Team didn’t use time efficiently, maybe they argued too much or talked about other things. As a result, their board is incomplete and their reporter doesn’t know how to clearly explain the group’s solution.
Yellow (3):Your reporter and board are somewhat clear about how the solution was found, but some key details are missing. Basically, someone like Sarah couldn’t tell what your board meant unless someone from your table re-explained it to her.
Green (2):Your reporter was clear in their explanation of the solution and your board shows enough detail to retell the problem without having to re-explain it.
Blue (1):Your sounded like a teacher the way that they explained it using rich math vocabulary and your solution on your board has extra details to help explain the solution.

Alex O. says to find
the sales tax on the

divide the whole hot

multiply that by 7.875.
Why do they both get $.22 for the sales tax?
Use the hundreths grids or other models to prove why these both
work.

Grade Reflections
On your grade paper…
1) The grade you were hoping to have
2) How you are feeling about your grade?
3) How you think attendance has effected your
grade?
4) One thing you are going to do in your journals
(or keep doing) to support your grade?
Big Question:
Why might we call 10% a ‘benchmark’ percent?

Quick Write:
DJ for the Day:No DJs today, we are hitting the boards.
Here are some amounts related to getting a degree in Special Effects, (like for movies), at the Art Institutes International in Minneapolis.
What percent of the whole cost is living in the dorms on campus, or room & board?
Hit the Boards
How to play:
1) Teacher shows the problem on the board and assigns a reporter for each table.
2) The whole table works together to help the reporter show how they thought
about the solution to the problem. The reporter needs the table’s help to feel
confident sharing the solution out loud to the class.
3) Teacher gives a 1 minute warning when time is starting to run out.
4) When teacher calls time, the reporters all stand up and explain how their table
solved the problem.
5) Afterwards, the teacher facilitates a way for the class to score each table’s
response as a Blue (1), Green (2), Yellow (3), or Red (4).
Your board should include your proof about why your answer is correct.
Red (4): Team didn’t use time efficiently, maybe they argued too much or talked about other things. As a result, their board is incomplete and their reporter doesn’t know how to clearly explain the group’s solution.
