Did You Know?
During the June 5, 2012 Primary Election in Orange County, the total turnout was a mere 26.5% with 17.5% of voters casting their ballot by mail and the remaining 9% voting in their assigned polling place. Among Hispanics, the estimated turnout was even lower. It is estimated that there are 30,000 Hispanics in Orange County that are eligible to vote but have not yet registered. The Delhi Center is rolling out a Citizen Leadership Program to try to address the need via civic education, agency-to-agency collaboration, referrals to citizenship fairs and classes, voter education, voter registration and “Get Out The Vote” drives. The program is a non-partisan civic engagement and leadership development initiative that targets Orange County residents that are not yet registered to vote.
