2021 Staff
Recognition Award
The Bullock Award is given to a staff member who exudes
all the qualities that we value at our school. Each year a
staff member is put forward by their colleagues to be con-
sidered for this award.
This year the award is going to a teacher.
This teacher has a great love of learning, not only for her
students, but also for herself.
She is passionate about improving children’s literacy; she
has implemented a whole school approach to writing called
the Big Write program; a creative way to improve student
vocabulary and punctation when writing. Have you seen
her punch out her Kung Foo Punctuation moves?
She introduced The Casey Caterpillar handwriting program
as a way to teach Prep and Year 1 children handwriting
skills.
She advocated for the purchase of Literacy Pro as a way to
engage children in reading. She actively monitors children
and many children have received Lit Pro Awards at our
weekly assembly. This program has proven to improve stu-
dent’s reading ability significantly. We attribute our great
Naplan Reading results to this program.
Have you worked out who it is?
She finds creative ways to make learning engaging and lots
of fun. She has dressed up (even in a funny wig), put eyes
on bushes around the school, made a secret door in the gar-
den and made ice cream cone trees and all sorts of other
delicious foods for the children to try as part of their learn-
ing. Her classroom is full of bright artwork produced by her
students under her expert guidance.
She works collaboratively with other teachers, and with
parents, to get the best results for all children across our
school and she gives willingly of her time to make school a
fun place to be. Her positivity and enthusiasm are infec-
tious.
Something we all love about this staff member is her will-
ingness to share her gifts with others. Teachers and children
alike have all been recipients of her delicious and creative
cooking. In fact, on my desk is a beautiful gift basket of
homemade Christmas goodies. Every year, I look forward
to receiving this.
So, without further ado, I would like to announce
Miss Karen Larsen as the recipient of the 2021 Bullock
Staff Recognition Award.
