LUNCHEON PROGRAM: KEYNOTE PRESENTATION BY LT. COL. ROBERT J. DARLINGWednesday, June 5, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.After terrorists crashed airliners into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Robert J. Darling rushed to the underground bunker at the White House. There, he served as liaison among the Vice President, the National Security Advisor, and the White House Situation Room. Now retired from the military, Darling shares the fascinating story of how he rose through the ranks as a Marine Corps aviator to fly with presidential transport Helicopter Squadron One and then become White House airlift operations liaison officer, which placed him alongside the nation’s top military and intelligence leaders as they took unprecedented actions to defend America during a crisis that changed the world. He speaks of managing crisis, leadership, decision making, and the people he quickly organized to get the job done on that historic day.
