The Manuel Barkan Fellowship Award is a competitive grant that supports the academic and living expenses of a doctoral candidate who is completing his/her dissertation in the field of Art Education. The 2019 Barkan Award honoree is Christopher Jeansonne. He will present his doctoral dissertation research: Superheroes in the Classroom, Or: An Autoethnographic Account of Great Power, Responsibility, and Community in a Critical Media Pedagogy. The Marantz Distinguished Alumni Lecture Fund was established in 1999 with gifts from Harold and Kenneth Marantz to honor a distinguished alum of the program. This year's recipient is Dr. Melanie Buffington, PhD 2004. Dr. Buffington will deliver a lecture titled: Visualizing Resources: Diversity in Teaching Materials.

PhD student Miranda Koffey will also be honored, as the recipient of AAEP’s third annual Outstanding Graduate Teaching Associate Award. She will present a brief lecture titled: Fostering a Creative Student through Play: What Doesn’t Change by College from K.
