PARISH “MOTHER’S DAY” BLOOD DRIVE � was a great
success. We collected 61 units of blood on a dreary rainy day!
Additionally, there were 9 temporary deferrals (their efforts count
too!). Our donors dedicated their donations to mothers on this

are advanced in age, preparing for a hospital operation, are in poor

of Jesus in our sufferings ... perhaps, if you are not able to come

BOOK OF THE SICK ... we include a general petition in the
prayer of the faithful for all those names that are in the Book of
the Sick in the church lobby ... may God's grace touch their lives.�
COMMUNION VISITS ... just a reminder to several of our pa-
rishioners who asked for ashes for homebound relatives ... call the
rectory and leave a message for Father Dennis ... we are more
than happy to bring JESUS to the homebound ... He is so much
more important than ashes.�
CONVALIDATION .... WHAT IS IT? ... perhaps, you have
been married civilly years ago and now wish to receive the won-
derful sacrament of Matrimony in the Catholic Church ... that is a
real possibility and certainly a blessing to strengthen you in the
vocation of married life ... speak with one of the priests or with
Deacon Vazquez for more information ... CONVALIDATIONS
are done very simply n church with the exchange of vows and
there is no need for gowns, limos, tuxedos, fancy receptions,
flowers, bridal parties, etc ... just you and sweetheart with the
priest or deacon witnessing your vows.�
BAPTISM ... is a serious and significant sacrament and moment
in the life of a Christian ��� whether a child or and adult ... there is
a program of preparation and so you should speak with one of the
priests or the deacon about Baptism for a child or an adult ... also,
godparents are most important in the process of Baptism ... god-
parents are to be examples of the Christian faith and so a godpar-
ent should be an active and registered member of a parish, have
received the sacraments of initiation and, if married, married in
the Catholic Church ... that is what a godparent is about and we
would not want less than that for a new Christian ... Baptism is
serious and significant not just a family tradition, a reason for a
party or a reunion of family and friends.�
GOD PARENTS ... there is often misunderstanding about being
a god parent ... according to the directives of the universal church
(Canon Law) a godparent needs to be a practicing Catholic who
has received the Sacraments of Initiation and, if married, needs to
be married in the Catholic Church ... practicing Catholics means
that the person is a registered member of a parish who attends
Sunday Mass and who will be a role model of the Catholic faith
for the child ... sounds reasonable!�
CONFIRMATION PRACTICES ... Monday, May 20 for CCD
religious education students and sponsors at 6:30 pm in church;
for elementary school students and sponsors at 6:30 pm in
church ... all must attend the practice ... tickets will also be dis-
tributed at the practice. �

CORPUS CHRISTI ... Sunday, June 23 ... bi�lingual Mass at
11:30 am followed by the procession with the Blessed Sacrament
in the area ... this year we are considering processing down Hol-
lywood to the Silver Beach gates and then to the Little Sisters
plaza and back to the church on Hollywood ... we conclude in the
church plaza with Benediction ... do we have parishioners will-
ing to set up a simple altar in front of their home on Hollywood
going to the Silver Beach gates? ... speak with Monsignor Gra-
ham ... if not, we will have another route.�
DEACON FERNANDO VAZQUEZ ... will be including a
column in our bulletin ... he will be answering different questions
about the faith ... please read and give your comments to the
Deacon about his column.�

Deacon’s Answer: The Fifth: “Thou shalt not kill.” Anger is a

La respuesta del Diacono: El quint0: “No matarás”. La ira es un

adulto ... también, los padrinos son más importantes en el proceso
del bautismo ... los padrinos deben ser ejemplos de la fe cristiana y,
por lo tanto, un padrino debe ser un miembro activo y registrado de
una parroquia, ha recibido los sacramentos de iniciación y, si están
casados, están casados en la Iglesia Católica ... de eso se trata un
