How do we Approach Leading our Players?
“Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”
Or
Better Athletes, Better People
Who Fulfills our Mission/Builds our Culture?
Training Our Coaches
Implementation of the Player Development Committee has allowed for focus on improving the training and coaching of hockey skills to our players.
Coaching of hockey skills in the organization overall is improving.
We have had some issues with inappropriate behavior with coaches, parents and players.
We have not trained our coaches, leaders and parents to collaboratively create a culture that teaches life skills as well as hockey skills.
Positive Coaching Alliance
Non-Profit started by Jim Thompson, Stanford University
Partners with youth organizations to provide training and resources to “provide a positive, character building experience that results in Better Athletes, Better People”.
Have reached over 8.6 million youths.
Organizations such as USA Baseball, Little League, USA Football, AAU and AYSO.
Coaches advocating and using these concepts (partial list)
Phil Jackson – PCA Spokesperson, 11 time NBA champion
Doc Rivers -NBA
Herm Edwards – NFL & NCAA
Tony Granato – NHL & NCAA
Todd McClellan – NHL
Jerry York – NCAA Hockey
Mark Murphy – Green Bay Packers
PCA – AAHA Partnership
Adopt an organization wide mind set and philosophy of developing “Better Athletes, Better People” through a partnership with PCA starting with the 2019-2020 season.
Through this partnership provide in person training to all AAHA leadership personnel, coaches, parents and players in PCA concepts.
Through the partnership with PCA, get access to on-line and hard copy materials to help and guide our entire organization.
Create a culture that is focused on development of our players in hockey and life skills over a 3 year period.
First Training Date on October 5th

Reporting Conduct Complaints
When possible, communicate your concerns to your coach first.
◼ You should also file a conduct report and let the conduct committee know that you talked to your coach regarding the incident. Keep any documentation you may have regarding the incident including names, dates, etc.
◼ If you do not feel the situation has been resolved or if the situation escalates, reach out to the conduct committee and let them know you would like them to review your complaint. Provide them with any information or documentation you have regarding the incident.
If you are not comfortable communicating your concerns with your coach, file a conduct report and let the conduct committee know you would like them to review your complaint. Providing a reason you did not reach out to your coach might be helpful.

Each tournament has its own page on the AAHA website with a list of current
teams registered

Tryouts 2019:
• Process – skills, small area games, scrimmages
• Evaluators – PDC Committee
• Placements – number of teams and team sizes will be determined based on
registration numbers and skill level breakdown from tryouts
• Camp Weekends
GAMES – PDC is recommending no more than 30-35
games at each level
Training Camp Weekends What is a "training camp weekend"?
Instead of traveling to away games, each team will have more concentrated practice ice
Off ice activities / Chalk talk
When and where?
Tentatively –
◼ November 30-December 1
◼ December 28-29
Location: AFIC, Tri-County, Waupaca, Oshkosh, Shawano -- wherever we can get reasonably affordable ice time that limits inconvenience
Why the change?
More practice time = more development opportunities
Historically, schedule included higher ratio of games to practice than desired
The goal is to re-balance, re-prioritize, and increase development opportunities through additional practice ice time in an immersive setting
Will this reduce number of games my child's team plays?
The number of home games will not be reduced
Tournaments will not be reduced
Attendance is considered mandatory – camp weekends are not optional

• In order for the organization to take steps toward a future of success, change will be inevitable.
• We will do our best to minimize the effects of these changes on each of you.
Please know that as we continue to dig into our organizational
structure and overall function, we will always keep two things
in mind when debating the need for change…
We will always strive to do what is best for the kids!
1. What is best for the overall organization?
2. What is best for every child in this
organization?
Have a GREAT Season!
