RULES & REGULATIONS

1. All THJA-GBZ Shows have a Silver (Trillium) rating and are recognized membercompetitions of Equestrian Canada, 308 Legett Drive Ottawa On K2K 1Y6, and aregoverned by its rules.

2. Every class/division in this program is judged in accordance with the current Rulesand Specifications of Equestrian Canada.

3. All competitors and owners require a minimum of Equestrian Canada Silvermembership, OEF membership and a Trillium Hunter Jumper Associationmembership (THJA). THJA members accrue points to qualify for year-end awards.Horses competing in all Divisions/Classes MUST have a valid EC Passport digitalhorse registration/recording and horse license sticker with the exception of Horsescompeting ONLY in the Hack division.

4. A photocopy of current, appropriate OEF, EC and THJA membership cards mustaccompany first entries.

5. Failure to provide proof of memberships will result in no points being allocated to thehorse and rider at that show. This rule will be strictly enforced.

6. Results achieved while competing with a Temporary Horse Registration (passport)may not be used to qualify for year-end awards, championship competitions, finals orsubsequent competitions requiring qualifications (as per EC Article A411 #4).

7. Any horse entered in any class at a competition may be selected for equinemedication control testing while at the event location.

8. Pre-entries must reach the show secretary by the Wednesday preceding each showdate by 10:00pm. With the exception of Rushmount Equine, pre-entries must reachthe show secretary by the Tuesday preceding the Rushmount Equine show date by10:00pm. Entries received after this date and time will be processed as post-entrieswith applicable fees. Stabling Request Forms must be submitted 7 days prior to thestart of the competition.

9. A $50 penalty will be charged for each NSF cheque. Payment of same plusoutstanding fees will have to be made by cash or certified cheque. Reoccurringoffenders will be put on a cash only payment option.

10. No horse or rider may compete at a THJA-GBZ show if there are outstanding feesfrom a prior THJA-GBZ show, until same fees are paid. Any entry with unpaid feeswill be sent to Equestrian Canada

11. Entry fees will be refunded on presentation of a valid medical or veterinary certificatebefore the show for which entries were made. Certificate must be received prior tothe end of the show on Sunday. Administrative and medic fees are non-refundable.Competitors scratching from the competition will be charged a scratch fee plusadministrative and medic fees. Scratch fees will apply once an entry is submitted. Acompetitor may change classes or divisions at the show however, once a division orclass has started and the competitor elects not to compete scratch and fees willapply.

12. When mounted, all competitors must wear proper fitting, approved protectiveheadgear (ASTM or BSI approved) with a safety harness correctly secured at alltimes while mounted. Proper riding attire must be worn.

13. Riders must wear their numbers at all times in the schooling or competition ring. 14. Members of the THJA-GBZ and affiliates accept no liability for loss, accident,

damage, injury or illness to horses, riders, owners, spectators or employees, or anyperson or property whatsoever.

15. NO DOGS. Please leave your dogs at home. Owners of any loose dogs will be fined$100.

16. Protests should be directed to the Show Steward. 17. Horses or riders must compete in at least 50% shows in their respective divisions, for

the current season and be in the top 7 placing, to qualify for the Trillium ProvincialChampionships and/or Year-End Awards. The Year End Awards are to 8th place forall divisions and equitation classes.

18. For show purposes, ponies are to be divided as follows: A ponies – over 13.2, notexceeding 14.2 hands. B ponies – over 12.2, not exceeding 13.2 hands. C ponies –12.2 hands and under.

19. Competitors riding a pony are eligible as follows: Junior A riders may not ride B or Cponies; Junior B riders may A, B or C ponies; Junior C riders may ride A, B or Cponies.

20. Any mistreatment or abuse of horses will not be tolerated at any THJA-GBZ shows.Any person doing so will be asked to leave the show grounds immediately.

21. At the discretion of the horse show management, divisions with three or fewer entriesmay be cancelled and entry fees refunded.

22. The show management reserves the right to change or amend the show schedule upto one hour prior to the time of the designated class.

23. No rider number will be issued without receipt of full payment or a signed opencheque left to cover all charges and fees incurred by the competitor.

24. Alcoholic beverages are NOT permitted within 150 feet of the rings. The THJA GBZ strictly follows all rules and regulations as described by EquestrianCanada in the Equine Medication Control rules. A description of permitted medications isincluded in these rules and can be found on the Equestrian Canada website.LIMITATIONS and GUIDELINES • Horses are limited to 2 hunter divisions, and appropriate equitation or medal classes. • Horses are limited to 2 jumper divisions and the Jumper Medal. • Horses may compete in 1 hunter division and 1 Jumper Division and their appropriateequitation and medal classes.

• Miscellaneous Classes are not included in these limitations. Be sure to check thehorseshow prize list for those limitations.

• Trillium Shows are required to offer prize money in all of the Trillium ChampionshipShow Qualifying divisions. Graduated prize money based on the number of entries in aclass or division is not permissible.

• Please be diligent about getting entries into show secretaries by the closing date aspublished in the horse show prize list whenever possible. All Trillium ChampionshipShow divisions must be offered at each Trillium Show, however show managersreserve the right to cancel any division that does not have at least three entries on theclosing date.

• All trainers/coaches must carry the memberships and Sports License equivalent to thelevel of competition where they are training/coaching.

• Un-judged Schooling Round – shows will be offering competitors an unjudged hunterschooling round. The round will be open to all riders. Full dress is required. The setcourse will be jumped once only (2 stops constitute elimination). Each horse is limitedto one un-judged schooling round per division entered. Equitation riders who are notcompeting in any other divisions may school over the set schooling course for theirrespective heights.

Equestrian Canada STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLE Equestrian Canada (EC), the Nationa.l Federation of Canada, supports adherence tohumane treatment of horses in all competitions under its jurisdiction. EC is committed to: · Upholding the welfare of horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in allactivities. · Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect and thecompassion that they deserve, and that they never be subject to mistreatment.

· Ensuring that owners, trainers, exhibitors and their agents use responsible care inhandling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in theircare for any purpose.

· Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspectionand consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve thehighest possible standards of nutrition, health, comfort, sanitation and safety as amatter of standard operating procedure.

· Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare. · Increasing education in training and horsemanship practices. · Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioningorganization’s rules and to work within industry regulations in all equestriancompetitions.

· Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and regulations that protect thewelfare of horses. The standard by which conduct or treatment of horses will bemeasured is that which a reasonable person, informed and experienced in generallyaccepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neithercruel, abusive nor inhumane. A medical attendant will be present at each THJA-GBZshow. A veterinarian and blacksmith will be on call.

· Per Article A801, every entry at an EC-sanctioned competition shall constitute anagreement by the person responsible that the owner, lessee, trainer, manager, agent,coach, driver or rider and horse shall be subject to the EC constitution and all rules ofEC and any additional rules set by the competition. It is the responsibility of allindividuals participating in any capacity in EC-sanctioned competitions to beknowledgeable regarding the EC constitution and the applicable rules of EC and theadditional rules, if any, imposed by the competition. Do not participate in this EC-sanctioned competition in any capacity if you do not consent to be bound by theconstitution and rules of EC and any additional rules imposed by the competition.

2018 TRILLIUM CHAMPIONSHIPQUALIFICATION PROCESS FAQ

Q: What do I need to collect points towards the Trillium Championship Show?A: You must have a current THJA membership in the zone in which you compete to collect

points towards the Trillium Championship Show.Q: I have a THJA membership, but I do not own my horse. Does the owner need a

THJA membership too?A: Yes. Both owners and riders must have THJA memberships in the zone in which they

compete to collect points towards Championship Show.Q: I forgot to get my THJA membership before the first show. I have it now though.

Do my points count from the first show?A: Points are not retroactive if memberships were not in place at the time of competition.Q: Can I collect points on a Temporary Horse Registrations?A: No. Competitors may not collect points on Temporary Horse Registrations.Q: I was Reserve Champion at the last show, but another rider received more points

towards Championship Show. Was there a mistake?A: Points towards Championship Show and Zone Awards are calculated at each show

based on the number of competitors in the class, a standard multiplier factor, and theplacings 1stto 6th. This is different than how points are calculated for Champion andReserve Champion at individual horse shows.

Q: Who gets to go to the Championship Show?A: The top seven (7) competitors in each division who have attended 50% of the qualifying

shows in their division/class are eligible for Trillium Championships Show.Q: How does the 50% rule work?A: A competitor must show (Show = Marked on a Judge’s Card) at a minimum of 50% of

the THJA Shows in their zone in their division/class for their points to count towardsChampionship Show.

Q: What if a competitor in the top seven (7) of the division opts not to attend theTrillium Championship Show?

A: In the event that a qualified competitor opts not to attend the Trillium ChampionshipShow, the competitor in eighth (8th) place will be eligible to attend in their place. Entriesmay be submitted on a 'waitlist' basis if the competitor is eligible but has not qualified inthe top 7. Waitlisted entries will be contacted soon as possible if a spot becomesavailable. Waitlist entries will NOT be accepted after the Friday prior to the start ofcompetition. Once a competitor has scratched from their respective division and noticehas been given to the Zone Rep, they are not allowed to re-enter.

Q: Can a horse/rider combination collect points in more than one than one THJAzone?

A: No. Horse/rider combinations may only collect points in one zone.Q: Can a rider show two different horses in two different zones?A: Riders are permitted to show in more than one zone, but they must have a THJA

membership for each zone in which they will be collecting points.Q: How do I submit my entry?A: All horse show entries must be made through the Zone Representatives only. They must

be submitted to the horse show office by the Sunday of the last show of the season. Anywaitlist entries can also be submitted and will then be notified regarding any updates.They cannot be sent directly to the EMG Office. All entries must have proper signatures,complete addresses, passports, and OEF, EC and THJA numbers. An additional $25 feewill be charged for incomplete entries.

Riders competing in this division are noteligible to compete in any division with a height over 2’6”, except the DevelopmentDivision. This division may be run combined with 2’6” Amateur Division throughout theseason, but will be separate at Championship Show.2’6” Amateur DivisionOpen to adult amateurs riding horses. No ponies are permitted. Riders must hold a validEquestrian Canada Amateur Card. Horse/Rider combinations are only permitted to crossenter into the Development Division, Hack Division, and their age appropriate equitationon the flat. Riders competing in this division are not eligible to compete in any divisionwith a height over 2’6”, except the Development Division. Class - Modified Children's – Adult Amateur Hunter Medal: Fences 2'9"Class - Children's Hunter Medal: Fences 3'Class - My First Trillium Medal Class: Fences 21”Entry fee – $30 Medals to third place. Ribbons to sixth place.Trillium Jumper Medal Class: Fences not to exceed 3’3”• Originally created on the image of the CET Medal, the Trillium Jumper Medal hasevolved into a specialty class unique to the Trillium Circuit. JUNIOR RIDER OF THE YEARThe Junior Rider of the Year is awarded to the junior rider with the highest accumulatedpoints in any one division. The junior rider receives a $200 Bursary from the GeorgianBay Zone towards their trainer of choice. Winners must submit a receipt for lessons,clinics, training, etc in the amount to the THJA GBZ treasurer in order to receivereimbursement. Riders may not win this award more than once within a 2 year period.

SHOW INFO CHAMPIONSHIPS

• ENTRIES, STALL SHEETS AND SCHEDULEChampionship entries, stall sheets and schedule will be available soon as possible.Entry forms and stall sheets must be completed and SUBMITTED TO THE ZONEREPS in the office of the Sunday of the last show of the season. Entries submitteddirectly to EMG or elsewhere will NOT be recognised by the THJA or THJA GBZ.Waitlist entry forms may also be submitted with a note including contact name andinformation should the entry be accepted. For eligibility see below.

• SPONSORSHIP AT CHAMPIONSHIPSSponsorship is available for the Trillium Championships. Advertisements are availablein the program as well class and division sponsorship. Please contact GB ZoneRepresentatives for further information. Please contact the THJA Office 416-460-9178or [email protected] for further information.

• CAMPER SPACESEach THJA zone is allotted a set number of camper spaces for Trillium Championships.Camper space requests must be submitted to [email protected] prior to the deadlineof August 1st each year. Requests should include Trainer Name, Contact Name (ifdifferent from trainer), Phone Number, Email and Camper Length (if known).Each trainer is permitted one camper space unless there are less than the number ofallotted space requests at which point additional trainer camper spaces will be selectedby random draw. If there are more than the number of requests, a random draw will beheld to determine spaces and again there will be one space allotted per trainer. Trainerreceiving spaces MUST submit a cheque to the zone reps at the next THJA GBZ showfollowing the draw. If a cheque has not been submitted, the spot will then be passed tothe next trainer.

• ELIGIBILITY To be eligible for the THJA Championships from the THJA GBZ, competitors must havecompeted in at least 50% of the shows in the Georgian Bay Zone and be in the top 7entries of a core division or class. If a competitor who has qualified in the top 7 will notbe competing at Trillium Championships, the next qualified entry may compete.Entries may be submitted on a 'waitlist' basis if the competitor is eligible but has notqualified in the top 7. Waitlisted entries will be contacted soon as possible if a spotbecomes available. Waitlist entries will NOT be accepted after the Friday prior to thestart of competition. Once a competitor has scratched from their respective division andnotice has been given to the Zone Rep, they are not allowed to re-enter.
