Principal’s Message As this is the last newsletter of Term 3, I would like to thank all staff, students, parents and family members for their continued support, hard work and, engagement with regard to what happens every day at Kingsville. This partnership and working together on a daily

basis contributes so much to the rich learning environment we have at KPS. I look forward to welcoming everyone back to begin Term 4 on Monday October 8th. Congratulations The end of term 3 is traditionally highlighted by our much loved yearly concerts and 2018 was no exception. We experienced five wonderful concerts this week showcasing our amazing Kingsville students. Seeing these enthusiastic, confident performers on stage is always a delight and I know parents and staff alike are very proud of our wonderful students who performed over the 3 memorable nights. So many great moments and plenty of laughs as the students engaged with each other and the audience. The younger students sometimes looking out into the sea of faces to spot family members and at times giving a wave which is always endearing. Every year without fail an extra few remain on stage oblivious to the fact that most of their class have already left. Their extra moment of fame, can be very entertaining and usually cause for an additional round of applause. Primary school concerts are such joyous events and provide golden moments and so many great memories. They bring the extended school community together and develop student confidence and school pride. The success of school concerts of course is always due to a team effort with class teachers, specialists, support staff and parents working together to encourage the children and ensure their successful participation. So again well done everyone a great team effort. Special thanks this year to:

our amazing student MC’s - sometimes also referred to as “ring masters” Harriet Gould, Ben Becker, Liam Ralley, Charlotte Davis, Heidi Junge, Jack Cookson, William Stembridge, Eva Jugovic, Lyla Artavilla, Taleza Subin

Solos: Lily Thomas, Kaitlin Lee, Chilli Schmidt, Ava Bakaitis, Zoe Brown, Aliese Newnham, Indy Webster, Hollie Green, Callum Crowley, Brianna Hunt, Amelia Dempsey

all parents who have helped out both at home or at school

staff and pre-service teachers– working with the students to prepare the items and taking on specific roles front and back stage

Blagma Veljanoska – who has overseen the safety of all students and stood guard so to speak at the side of the stage for every concert

Nicole Shirreff for her management of the online booking system

Trish Harris, Carmel Cooper and Kim Cassidy for their creative costume contributions and finally, but very importantly

Hilary, Myffy and Frances, our Performing Arts teachers and concert managers who again this year

- skilfully supported and guided staff to ensure all grade groups were able to fully participate in the concert

- worked tirelessly to ensure rehearsals and finale went without a hitch The finale which is a highlight of each concert this year featured the song “One Song”. Within the lyrics of the song there are a couple of lines, “when life tries to get you down, one song can turn it all around”, If you were lucky enough to be part of the audience this week you could clearly feel the voices of KPS students only needed this one song to unite us all. This song was written by a group of school students for the annual nationwide Music Australia school initiative, Count us In. Each year a song is written and made available to all schools in Australia to encourage music participation. All participating schools sing the song on the designated day of the Big Sing in Term 4. Kingsville has been a proud participant in the event for the past seven years.

Principal’s Stall at the School Fete – help please !

Please see included in this newsletter a repeat of the message regarding my stall from the newsletter August 31st. Since that time I have gained some donations and I thank those families who have provided me with

these “goodies” however - a long way to go and - now is a great time for a spring clean and a seroius look to find those items that if donated will give you more space and less clutter at home So, some details to help and guide your donations

older and new items are acceptable

plates, cups, crockery, pottery etc

vases, frames

unwanted or now unloved object d’art or, curios ( rare, unusual or intriguing objects) Basically anything that could be repurposed or combined with other goodies to attract the buyers. This year I am hoping to “theme” some donations into groups so collections and vases , plant pots, cooking items etc could lend themselves well to this. I also hope to provide steep competion for out Vintage Stall with a supurb collection of bags for sale. So handbags, shoppers, beach bags, wallets etc, please donate and make room for your new summer purchases that you know you want. I am hoping to gain most donations

Student Placement for 2019 It is important for all parents to be aware of our class placement process which begins early in term 4 as part of planning for the 2019 school year. As students at Kingsville progress from Foundation to Year 6 it is expected they will learn to work and relate to a range of teachers and students. As with all school decisions, the aim at Kingsville Primary School is to offer the best possible learning experience for all children. When we are compiling class lists many factors are taken into account including academic abilities, individual needs, gender, student friendships and previous class placements/teachers. Class groups are not allocated a teacher until the whole school organisational model is finalised. This ensures that it is the ‘dynamic’ of each group that is the focus rather than, a particular teacher.

School Fete 2018 “Kingsville fete cannot wait” – I overheard this remark between a couple of students earlier in the week and I hope all students and families feel the same way. Well not long to wait as there are only 10 school days until the big day Saturday October 20. School fetes at this time of the year are being organized across the state. As winter is over (Sept 1) is the accepted day and, Christmas only 106 days away Fete Season is in full swing. Here at Kingsville we are right in the thick of it with planning well under way. I hope that the date is clearly highlighted on every Kingsville family calendar, and device so there can be no excuses for double booking on the day. Past Kingsville fairs and fetes have always drawn huge crowds and we expect that October 20th this year will again see Kingsville families and relatives, along with visitors from across Melbourne arrive to share in the fun and help us raise the funds. Whilst school fetes are major events on the fundraising calendar they also provide an opportunity to build community, identity, new relationships and renew past friendships. A huge thank you in advance to our school council for their decision to approve and support a school fete this year. Well done also to the 2018 Fete Working Party who are hard at it engaging with KPS families, sponsors and many outside agencies to ensure all the usual provision and assistance required is in place. The support and assistance required of course is needed from every KPS family as well as from within the wider community. Our School Council, FOKPS (Friends of KPS subcommittee) or, our 2018 Fete Working Party cannot cover all the bases. As in all schools donations and volunteers are key aspects of need for a successful school fete. So please ensure all communications are read and appropriate action taken. These will include ongoing newsletter items, Compass posts, and updates on the Fete Website. In addition, all families should have received home a comprehensive Fete Newsletter please make sure these are kept and pinned up on the family noticeboard. This may be an old fashioned design item, but it does ensure such hard copy notices are visible and easily accessible.
