LSU Health New Orleans Continuing Dental Education is the brand name of LSU’s overall continuing dental education program; it represents the long-standing affiliation and working relationship between LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry and The Louisiana Academy of Continuing Dental Education, Inc. for the purpose of developing, marketing, and administering online and live continuing education courses and training programs. This continuing education activity has been planned and will be implemented in accordance with standards of the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP) through joint efforts between LSU Health New Orleans Continuing Dental Education and Implant Educators. LSU Health New Orleans Continuing Dental Education is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider.

Course Description & Overview Approximately one-third of the continuum focuses on live-patient surgery, one-third on simulation “hands-on” workshops, and one-third on a combination of the study of science-based articles, lectures and quizzes. During the continuum:
■ You will be encouraged to bring cases for treatment planning and review, and will benefit from one-on-one treatment planning.
■ You will participate in hands-on model workshops, and observe and place implants in live surgeries.
■ You will be expected to demonstrate competency on all hands-on exercises and quizzes.
■ Live surgeries will be observed or assisted at each session.
■ Observation and assistance in live surgeries are required.
■ All attendees should bring a laptop computer for CT guided software training.
Learning Objectives After completing the continuum, attendees should be able to:
■ Treatment plan, place, and restore dental implants
■ Understand how to use hard and soft tissue grafting for pre-implant site development
■ Use CT guided surgical techniques
■ Predictably treat patients using dental implants
■ Understand why, when, and how patients can benefit from dental implant treatment

THE FOLLOWING PATIENT RECORDS ARE REQUIRED: 1. Patient informed consent and release forms 2. Preoperative medical/dental history forms 3. Preoperative radiographs 4. Preoperative diagnostic casts, if applicable 5. Preoperative photographs 6. Preoperative dental charting 7. Radiographs taken before and after treatments, if indicated 8. Photographs of completed treatments 9. Postoperative radiographs, if indicated
PATIENT PROTECTION: All participating dentists must be licensed U.S. dentists, and each dentist must submit proof of malpractice insurance to Miss Hong Nguyen, Marketing and Communications Coordinator at [email protected], by August 31, 2018 (3 weeks before the start of the continuum). Your medical malpractice insurance must specifically cover the following procedures: (1) Implant Placement (2) Bone & Soft Tissue Grafting.
LSU Health New Orleans CDE will ensure that aseptic conditions, equipment and instruments are provided, and that adequate and appropriate arrangements and/or facilities for emergency care are available. The continuum director, supervising implant surgeons, and the experienced implant surgery dental assistants will ensure that the pre-mentioned conditions, appropriate equipment and instruments, and emergency care are available. All patients will be informed in non-technical language of: (1) the training situation, (2) the nature and extent of the treatment to be rendered, (3) any benefits and potential harm that may result from the procedure, (4) available alternative procedures, and (5) their right to discontinue treatment.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY: The Louisiana Academy of Continuing Dental Education, Inc./LSU Health New Orleans Continuing Dental Education reserves the right to cancel this continuum or any session(s) within this continuum should circumstances warrant such action. In the event this continuum is cancelled or filled, the Academy will either refund the full session tuition or apply the tuition to the next continuum or session of your choice. If you must cancel your registration for this continuum, the Academy will refund your tuition (minus an administrative cancellation fee of 10% of the total tuition) if the Academy receives written notification of your withdrawal no later than August 21, 2018. Notification of withdrawal received after August 21, 2018 will result in forfeiture of the entire continuum tuition.

John M. Barksdale, DDS, DirectorFull-time general dentist in Baton Rouge. Completed a two-year practicing Residency Program in Implant Surgery and Prosthetics at Misch Implant Institute, Course Director of Dental Implant Programs for LSU CDE, and visiting lecturer at LSU School of Dentistry. Diplomate of the ICOI, Fellow of the Misch International Implant Institute and Academy of Osseointegration, Associate Fellow of the AAID, AACD accredited, and President of The Louisiana Academy of CDE, Inc.
Rick Ferguson, DMD, Co-DirectorFull-time general dentist in Davie, Florida. Director of Implant Educators in Florida (a seven-month program teaching general dentists and specialists how to become implantologists). Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, visiting lecturer at the University of Miami, and lectures internationally on a variety of implant surgery and restorative topics. Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) and Associate Fellow of the AAID.
Arthur Acker, DMD, MAGDGeneral private practice dentist in Venice, Florida. He helped establish and became a board member of Implant Educators, a comprehensive dental implant CE program. Dr. Acker holds a Master’s Certificate in Comprehensive Dentistry from and has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry for the past twenty-five years. He has been involved in dental education his entire career and lectures throughout the U.S. on implant related topics.
Dwight Pate, DMDFull-time general dentist in private practice in Auburndale, Florida. He completed a general practice residency program and acquired considerable knowledge in the areas of comprehensive dental diagnosis and treatment planning. A Diplomate of the ICOI, Dr. Pate is Clinical Director of the Implant Educators Implant Continuum, an adjunct professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, and completed extensive studies at The Dawson Center and The Institute of Advanced Dental Studies.
Aldo Leopardi, BDS, DDS, MSProsthodontist practicing in Denver, Colorado. Faculty member: Implant Educators Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Implant Continuum. Clinical assistant professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Colorado School of Dentistry. Member of the AACD, the Academy of Osseointegration, the ICOI, and the American College of Prosthodontists. Lectures nationally on subjects involving fixed, removable, and implant dentistry and is involved in clinical research.
Richard J. Miron, DDS, BMSc, MSc, PhDAdjunct faculty member in periodontology at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. He is the lead investigator at the Miron Lab and the head educator at Advanced PRF Education. His research involves enamel matrix proteins for bone and periodontal regeneration, bioactive growth factors, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), osteoinductive bone grafting materials, and guided bone regeneration in implant dentistry. Author of more than 100 peer-reviewed research journal articles.

Sean Owens, DDSA general dentist practicing in the Baton Rouge area. A 2011 graduate of LSU School of Dentistry, he completed a hospital-based AEGD in 2012, and the 300 hour Dental XP – Stoney Brook University of New York Dental Implant Externship in 2016. A past president of the La. Academy of General Dentistry and current president of the Greater Baton Rouge Dental Association, Dr. Owens is a Fellow of the ICOI and a board member of the Louisiana Academy of Continuing Dental Education, Inc.
John Russo, DMD, MHSPrivate practice periodontist in Sarasota, Florida. A graduate of the Ohio State University College of Dentistry, he is a clinical assistant professor of periodontics at the Medical University of South Carolina where he also received his specialty training in periodontology and a Master of Health Science degree. A Diplomate of the ICOI, Dr. Russo is a nationally recognized expert in dental implants and bone grafting and lectures in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Mitra Sadrameli, DMD, MSFull-time, board certified, private practice oral and maxillofacial radiologist in Chicago, Illinois. After dental school, she completed a one year AEGD program and practiced general dentistry for sixteen years before earning a certificate in Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology and an MS degree. A faculty member of the Implant Educators Dental Implant Continuum, she lectures nationally and internationally on Radiology and Implant Dentistry.
Avi Schetritt, DMDFull-time, board certified, private practice periodontist in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After two years of general practice, he completed a diploma in periodontics and served for six years as an associate professor at the University of Montreal. A private practice periodontist since 2000 and a Diplomate of the ICOI and the American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Schetritt is a Senior Editorial Reviewer for Implant Dentistry and a faculty member of the Implant Educators Implant Continuum in Florida.
