All the academy’s instructors are well equipped and well qualified in the fields of Human Movement Science, Childhood Psychology, Teaching, Biokinetics and Sports Science. They also have various national- and international certificates in swimming teaching, swimming for infants, toddlers, competitive swimmers and adults.

Lizette is also a Project Manager for the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation (South Africa) and Kiddies Aqua does regular water safety, water awareness and community projects for the Foundation. Lizette visits Princess Charlene regularly for projects for the Foundation. She also taught the Princess’s baby twins (Prince Jacques and Princess Gabrielle) and many other sports stars’ and celebrities’ children to be water safe and how to swim.

BACKGROUND

Kiddies Aqua Swimming Academy was established in 2011 by the current owner Lizette Botha. She previously owned Aqua Kid Swim School in Nelspruit for more than 17 years before becoming the Head Coach at Ryk Neethling’s swim school in Pretoria for three years. Lizette and Jean Fouace (Switzerland) are the founder members of Amphibies Babies Africa. Jean is the pioneer of the Self-Rescue Baby Floating Method in the world since 1967.

Kiddies Aqua Swimming Academy is the largest swimming academy in SA measured in terms of the volume of swimmers they serve.

They offer the following services:• Self-rescue Water Safety Courses for babies

(from the ages of 6-18 months), • Learn-to-Swim and swim readiness lessons

for toddlers (from 2-10 years), • Stroke correction lessons for young gala

swimmers (any age to 4) • Swimming lessons for adults (any age).

OUR PEOPLE

Lizette Botha (Owner and Head Coach) has a degree in Human Movement Science (UP). She was a provincial athlete and hockey player during her school and university career and completed three Comrades marathons. She equipped herself further on the terrain of water safety for babies (6-18 months) through Les Bébés Amphibies International (Switzerland) and also completed Swimming SA’s “Learn-to-Swim” programmes for swimmers from ages 2-10 years. She served as Swimming SA’s Liaison. She has already taught more than 8 000 babies to float and 17 000 children to swim during her

coaching career over the last 29 years. She is SA’s top baby floating specialist with accolades from M-Net’s Carte Blanche, Supersport and Kwêla and SABC’s Top Billing and Pasella doing programmes on her and her unique method.

Both her daughters (ages 18 and 20-years) represented South Africa’s National Junior Training Squads and have also been offered swimming scholarships in the USA. They have achieved provincial swimming colours from the ages of seven, winning medals on a regular basis at national swimming competitions during the past ten years. Most of her swimmers go on to represent their schools, provinces and even their country.

The academy is a member of Swimming South Africa and Jean Fouace’s Les Bébés Amphibies International (Switzerland). They strive to offer swimming lessons of the highest quality with their highly skilled and educated personnel. These swimming lessons are presented at their indoor heated facilities in Moreleta Park and Hatfield (University of Pretoria). The academy expanded it’s wings by means of a partnership with TuksSwimming where they utilize the university’s heated indoor facility at UP Sport Campus. They recently opened a franchise outlet in Meyersdal (Alberton).

• Worldwide drowning is the main cause of deaths among children under the age of five.

• Worldwide, every 85 seconds, a child drowns. In SA it is three children per day.

• 90% of all drowning incidents could have been prevented with proper care by parents and caretakers.
