2017 SAIS Annual Conference | October 22-24 | Atlanta, GA >>schedule preview KEYNOTES Dr. Johnnetta Cole 4:30PM Monday Preparing Tomorrow's Leaders Reflecting on a lifelong career as an educator, Dr. Cole will share her thoughts about what leaders will need to stress in preparing their students for an increasingly diverse, complex, and interconnected world. Drawing on personal experiences and research, she will emphasize the critical importance of creativity and community. Alan November 9AM Tuesday What is the Added Value of a Teacher in the Age of the Internet? As increasing knowledge is available on demand, the added value of a teacher’s skill is being rebalanced. We are moving away from the classroom knowledge transfer model to an environment where students “learn to learn”. Students are applying their content knowledge to solve sophisticated global problems. The role of the teacher is complex, connected, diagnostic, inventive, and collaborative. If we redefine the role of the teacher, then we also have to revise the role of the learner, evaluation practices, staff development, curriculum, and assessment. This keynote will offer key questions for hiring new teachers and developing current ones.
