The Holy Family Middle School is proud to announce that in the coming weeks, it will be debuting a set of 30 Chromebook laptops for student use! Students in grades 5-8 will be sharing the computers to develop modern office skills and to enhance a variety of different projects and assignments. After meeting as a team, the 5th-8th grade teachers decided Chromebooks would be a better investment than Ipads for several reasons. Equipped with wireless internet capability, built-in keyboards, and easy access to cloud- based apps like Google Drive, teachers and students will have the flexibility to conduct research and collaborate in- class, and then continue the project from home with their holyfamilypdx.net user accounts. Giving students the skills to collaborate and produce with the most up-to-date tools is essential in preparing students for high school, and becoming responsible digital citizens in the real world. We all need printer paper and cartridges, not to mention all of the colored pencils/pens and other supplies the kids need during their time at HFS. Why not put those purchases to use to get Holy Family more FREE MONEY! GO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Second graders are making a difference this year by living out the Catholic social justice principle, "A Call to Family, Community, and Participation." Each month a group of second graders visit Brookdale assisted living facility to engage in games and activities with the residents. There are a number of residents who love to visit with the children each month and the children certainly enjoy their visits with the residents! Last week the class made Valentines' cards for the residents which were thoroughly appreciated, and they made Christmas cards for the residents in December. During Lent and Advent the second graders do extra chores around their homes to help their families and to earn food for the St. Vincent de Paul food closet, furthering their goal to participate in community. They pray each day for their prayer partners and their prayer partners pray for them. The students are also blessed to read weekly with their wonderful prayer partners, Nancy Fazzolari and Carolyn Orlando. We have an amazing community that enriches our lives and the second graders want to fully engage in that gift and appreciate of our blessings. NEED FAIR SHARE HOURS???
