2017 BOXER BOOGIE 5K/3K
WWW.BOXERBOOGIEFUN.COM
Dear Supporter
Alamo Boxer Rescue (ABR) is the San Antonio chapter of Austin Boxer Rescue (501c3). ABR is
made up entirely of volunteers who are dedicated to removing dogs from bad situations and
placing them into loving, permanent homes. We receive dogs from shelters, kennels, dogs
found as strays and from other kill facilities. Our dogs in rescue are rehabilitated medically,
socialized and taught basic manners. We service most of the Central and South Texas areas,
from Waco, Belton, Temple and Austin to San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and the Rio Grande
Valley. We also work closely with our partner organizations, Lone Star Boxer Rescue and
Legacy Boxer Rescue (in Houston and Dallas) respectively.
On Sunday, October 29, 2017, we will be having our 7th Annual Boxer BOOgie 5K/3K
Run/Walk/Stroll Fundraiser with or without your dog. But please! Bring your dog! This fundraiser
is ABR’s largest of the year and significantly impacts our ability to save dogs throughout the
year. The money raised at this event will go directly to medical and boarding costs associated
with rescuing these animals. With the current economic climate, ABR is faced with an
increasing number of dogs that need our help. At any given time, ABR has between 150-180
dogs in rescue. Since 2005, we have placed over 3,600 dogs, more than any other pure breed
rescue group in Central Texas.
To raise funds for this worthy cause, the 7th Annual Boxer BOOgie 5K/3K Run/Walk/Stroll will be
held at Woodlawn Lake Park in San Antonio, Texas on October 29, 2017. The BOOgie (as we
call it) will be chip timed (5K only) with a goal of 1,000 participants from San Antonio, Austin
and surrounding areas. The BOOgie is both a competitive race and a dog friendly race.
Refreshments and food will be provided after the race with top prizes in each category. The
first 500 registered participants receive a free event T-shirt. In addition, the first 200 registered
participants receive bonus ABR logo boxer shorts.
In order for The BOOgie to become a successful community event, we need your help! Please
take a moment to review the various sponsorship levels and complete the Sponsorship form
attached. You can mail the completed form and check to us at the address listed below.
With your support, we can provide a better, healthier and happier life for so many Boxer dogs
in need.
Thank you,
Jim Cahalan

The ABR Mission Our mission: To balance the health, safety, and welfare needs of canines in the Central and South Texas
areas by providing nourishment and a safe environment for unwanted, stray, abused, and impounded Boxers.
Once placed in new homes they become more than just pets, they become family.
Maddie’s Story – From Forgotten to Family. Maddie is just one of many
ABR stories that show the dedication of our volunteers and that every life is
precious.
Maddie was rescued from a kill shelter in South Texas. It was believed that
she was used as a backyard breeder and then thrown away when she
could no longer produce puppies and make a profit for her owners.
Maddie was severely emaciated, infested with hookworms and giardia,
and was hairless with mange. Her ears were bleeding where it appeared
ear tags had been torn away.
Maddie was very weak and could barely walk as she apparently had been constantly kept in
a crate. She had never seen a toy. But once she found rescue with ABR, all of that was about
to change!
Maddie is healthy now. She has a sparkle in her eye and has her boxer wiggle back. She is
now living the good life in her forever home. Maddie has gone from FORGOTTEN TO FAMILY!
