Since 2014, 126 participants found jobs in the food service industry. Food service jobs represent 38% of all placements in Easterseals’ Workforce programs.

Dear Friend of Easterseals, We are excited to share the impact of our work in 2017. Through the work of more than 225 staff, 150 volunteers, countless supporters, partners and donors, we were able to achieve some remarkable milestones that are improving our community and allowing individuals with disabilities with opportunities to Live, Learn, Work and Play in Southeast Wisconsin. Some major highlights from 2017 include:

• Expanded Project SEARCH, a 9-month internship program for individuals with disabilities, to Racine County (Andis Company) and Washington County (St. Joseph’s Hospital). This evidence-based program boasts a more than 80% success rate with supporting interns to prepare for and secure community-based employment.

• Integrated the Safe Babies Healthy Families into our agency by moving the team into our Workforce Training Center in Waukesha. This move allowed the team to be even more embedded into the Easterseals’ culture and team.

• Continued to increase mental health services to individuals through Individual Placement and Support (IPS). Leveraging partnerships with Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division, Guest House and Justice Point, we added two new treatment teams in Milwaukee County to be able to meet the growing needs of those with a mental illness diagnosis who desire to find employment.

• Served even more individuals than ever before in our history. This past year, we provided direct services to nearly 3,500 people. Through these services, we touched the lives of more than 12,000 people in Southeast Wisconsin.

As we reflect on the past, we use these accomplishments to fuel our enthusiasm for future work. Governmental funding continues to shrink and we are humbly aware that our work would not be possible without our partners, friends, supporters and donors like you. We are incredibly grateful for your support and know that together, we truly can achieve our purpose: to change the way the world defines and views disabilities by making positive, profound differences in people’s lives every day.

Alexander’s StoryAlex, an individual diagnosed with mild intellectual disabilities and disorder of written expression, came to My Choice Family Care-Easterseals’ Care Management Unit when he was 19 years old. Alex’s life consisted of staying home most of the day playing video games and spending time with his family. He had no income and relied on his parents for all of his needs. Despite this, Alex had bigger dreams of someday getting a job, having friends and social interactions with people outside of his parents and sister.

With the help of his care team at Easterseals, Alex was about to get vocational training at Goodwill Industries in the Community Access Program. This gave him the opportunity to discover what type of job he wanted while receiving employment training. He participated in Project SEARCH with Goodwill at the Milwaukee County Airport.

Since completing Project SEARCH, Alex’s ability to be independent has increased significantly. He secured a job at Wisconsin Athletic Club where he is able to earn income and meet others. He also participates in a program called Beyond Work where he is learning how to access the community for social activities.

Thanks to the help of My Choice Family Care-Easterseals, Alex is now thriving and his overall quality of life has greatly improved!

Safe Babies Healthy Families Offers Support for Single MomWhen a young woman became pregnant at age 19 she knew she would need help to ensure her child would have the best start in life. With the father of her baby in and out of jail and her family moving to a different state she lacked a strong support system she desperately needed to raise a child.

She joined our Safe Babies Healthy Families program and worked with her case manager Kerri throughout her pregnancy and after birth. Kerri was able to help her have access to the resources she needed to improve her situation: mental health screenings, assistance with funding stable housing, support to find and maintain employment and many more.

Her determination paired with Kerri’s help and advocacy has resulted in a tremendous change in her life resulting in stable housing, a job, and the resources and support to provide her child with a safe, nurturing place to live.

Over the course of the year we’ve raised awareness and funds through our newsletters, appeals, grant requests, and events. Every donation we receive is an investment in our programs and services that help those in our community rise to their greatest potential.

86 cents of every dollar we receive goes to direct services, which is a significant impact on those we serve. We are proud to be a part of a national network that has ranked first among National Health Council members for the percentage of program dollars designated to providing direct services to over 1.5 million individuals since 1919.

Your donations make a difference. Easterseals relies on advocates and donors like you to help fund vital programs and services within the community. All donations received are completely voluntary, which makes them that much more special. We are honored that you chose us to receive your donation and that you continue to support our mission in taking on disability together.
