What is Easter? What do Christians Celebrate on Easter?
On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ. It is typically the most well-attended Sunday service of the year for Christian churches.
Christians believe, according to Scripture, that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. As part of the Easter season, the death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter. Through his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, thus purchasing for all who believe in him, eternal life in Christ Jesus. In Western Christianity, Easter marks the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline in preparation for Easter. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. Eastern Orthodox churches observe Lent or Great Lent, during the 6 weeks or 40 days preceding Palm Sunday with fasting continuing during the Holy Week of Easter.
John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Have a safe Easter and I look forward to seeing you all in Term 2, Jo Riddell APRE

Principal’s News
Dear Parents, Staff and Friends,
I sit here feverishly getting together this month’s newsletter as I fight a severe case of jetlag. I forgot how debilitating it is, but during our pilgrimage our mantra was everyday, “I am a pilgrim, not a tourist” and this seems to be continuing! In all seriousness, I believe that this is the case though, as journeying as a pilgrim through the Holy Land is a life altering experience and I now see that life needs to be approached with a pilgrimage focus.
Here in Australia, we take the simple things in life for granted, like:
Having water that is drinkable;
Having a religion and being able to travel between suburbs without being oppressed by checkpoints;
Having streets that are tidy;
Having electricity 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, compared to Palestinians who have electricity for 2 days a week only.
One of the most confronting things that really slapped me in the face during my pilgrimage was how oppressed the Palestinians are. This conflict between Israel and Palestine has existed for thousands of years, but listening first hand to their plight and the plight of everyday Israelis who yearn for peace has put a totally new perspective in place for me. Similar conflicts in Ireland and Europe have been mostly resolved over the past 50 years. It is my solemn hope that peace be brought to this Holiest of lands very soon.
My sincere thanks goes to Mrs. Joanne Riddell, Mr. Damian Wood and Mr. Shane Parry who covered amicably for Mr. Mason and I as we were afforded this great pilgrimage experience. I know I am much richer in faith, deeper in spirit, wiser in history and connected to our Christian roots than I was before. As a Catholic Christian, the celebration
I feel that I somewhat am yet to process this time of pilgrimage in the Holy Land, which I know I will always remember and value. I was also gifted with being ‘alter boy’ to Archbishop Mark Coleridge and Fr. Anthony Ekpo in some very sacred places including The Church of the Holy Sepulcher - Jerusalem, The Church of the Transfiguration – Mt Tabor (pictured left), Israel and on a boat on the Sea of Galilee (pictured above). Again these are all very unique and deeply meaningful places to be able to celebrate
the wonder and mystery of our faith.
One of the absolute highlights of our pilgrimage was to be present at a Papal audience with His Holiness Pope Francis (aka: Papa Francesco). Unbeknownst to us, we had front row seats and he passed by us and in fact presided only several meters away from us. So in all a very full on, jammed packed but profoundly humbling experience was had during this time. I was very grateful to be able to spend this time with Mr. Mason, and we share many memories that will last a lifetime – a pilgrim’s lifetime that is!!!!
THANK YOU
My thanks to the staff, children and parents of our school for your efforts and enthusiasm during this first term. The first term is always a very busy one and can be very tiring for all at school. I hope that all members of our community find some time over the Easter break to recharge the batteries and spend quality time with family and friends.
I also encourage members of our community to spend quality time with their God over the Easter weekend. Wherever you are, please take the time to attend at least one of the Easter ceremonies so that the true meaning of the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus is brought home over the commercial hype that the season has become.
May our Easter break be a time where we take stock of the many blessings bestowed on us by our God. Too often in our hectic schedule we find ourselves getting caught up in menial and trivial incidents and issues. During the Easter break take time to enjoy and celebrate the important things
in your life. Be sure to allow yourself to appreciate what is most important to you in this season of Easter.
STAFF LEAVE
I wish to inform you that Mrs. Christina Barron has taken Long Service Leave for the whole of Term 2 and Mrs. Margaret Kirk (nee: Miss Kelly) and

and Jorja await the arrival of a new member of the Klos Family very soon.
I wish Christina and Kelly all the best during their respective leave periods.

THOUGHT FOR A MOMENT!
Prayer For Peace In Palestine
God of peace,
We pray for peace in Palestine, the land where the Prince of Peace walked long ago;
Let there be an end to the cycle of violence and vengeance that has prevailed there for so long;
Let there be an end to the frequent killing and maiming of people, victims of hate and prejudice;
Let there be an end to all political agendas that justify and prolong the conflict.
God of peace, hear our prayer.
Bring justice for all the people of Palestine regardless of race, culture or religion;
Sustain the courage and determination of all those who work for peace and keep them strong in the face of threats and persecution;
Establish such mutual respect and harmony between Christians and Muslims that they will live and work together for the sake of all.
God of peace, hear our prayer.
Keep our own hearts and minds free from fear and prejudice; Help us to be instruments of your peace where we are.
God of peace, hear our prayer.
Provided by the Uniting Church in Australia National Working Group on Worship.
God bless you and best wishes for the week ahead.
May the light of the Risen Christ radiate peace across the world this Easter!

4th Week of Lent (School week beginning 31st March)
Project Compassion, Week 4, brings you the story of Martina.
The Solomon Islands are often threatened by weather-related disasters such as earthquakes, floods, tsunamis and cyclones. Martina is a primary school teacher, and is teaching her students how to stay safe during disasters, which often happen when they are away from their homes. The program has had great success, and is soon to be expanded to other countries in the Pacific Islands which face similar risks, so that just like Martina and her students, others too are able to live without fear when disasters strike. Your Project Compassion donation is saving the lives of children who are among the most vulnerable to natural disasters. www.caritas.org.au

Leukaemia Foundation
On Friday, April 4th we are having a CRAZY HAIR DAY! The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the fantastic work the Leukemia Foundation does in helping those who suffer from blood cancer (and also their families). Examples of these types of cancer are leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and related
blood disorders.
These can develop in anyone, at any age, at any time. More than 11,500 people will be diagnosed with blood cancer this year. If you would like to read more about the work that the Leukaemia Foundation does or donate to them why not visit their official website to find out more? http://www.leukaemia.org.au
Hi all,
What a busy term it has been! I know both the teachers and students are really ready for holidays! I have been going round the classrooms teaching students all about Peer Mediation & Conflict Resolution! The skills covered in these sessions are those basic to students’ (and indeed adults) successful self-management in social situations. They include skills of: self-awareness, management of emotions, appropriate assertiveness and empathy. Emphasis is on helping students to increase their awareness of themselves and their relationships with others.
The sessions encourage students; to entertain that there are different perceptions of situations.
to think in terms of “fairness” both to themselves and others.
to take more responsibility in their social relationships.
They have learnt that CONFLICT IS WHEN PEOPLE HAVE A PROBLEM GETTING ALONG TOGETHER. RESOLUTION IS SOLVING THE PROBLEM.
They have learnt that all people have conflict it is a part of life. The important thing is how we deal with the conflict when it occurs. We can deal with conflict by
fight/flight but the best way is to work it out!
Why don’t you ask your child/children what a win/win is? (Win-Win means finding a way that is fair for everyone-fair for you, and other people. There doesn’t have to be a loser. Both people win.) I have been really enjoying these sessions and it is great getting to know the children in the more intimate classroom setting! Sessions will continue next term.
I wish you all a safe happy & holy Easter,
In the end Only three things matter: How much you loved How gently you lived And how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you. BUDDHA
Blessings,
Vicki

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Jubilee Primary School is currently seeking sponsorship for our Major Community Event this year
– the Jubilee Primary School Family Fun Day to be held on 16th August 2014.
We are writing with the request that you consider sponsoring your child’s school to enable us to
raise as much money as possible on the day. In return for your sponsorship your business will
receive significant advertising and promotional exposure.
During previous years, through the funds attained from the Family Fun Day, the P&F have funded a variety of items for the
school, including:
New School Playground $83,000
Connection of remaining toilets to rainwater tanks $11,250
Trestle Tables for P&F Events including Family Fun Day $1,410
Additional Chairs for Jubilee Centre $10,000
Classroom ipad's/iPod $30,000
Sound & Lighting System for the Jubilee Centre $30,000
New sporting equipment $3,000
Early Learning Years Centre equipment $5,700
Donation to Reading Program $20,000
Apple MacBook Air Computers and ipads $50,000
We are aware that many businesses are inundated with requests for sponsorship, with many failing to offer anything in
return for the support given. Where we are different is in our strategies to ensure that you, as a sponsor, receive obvious
benefits from your patronage. We trust you will find from the enclosed information and further discussions that we intend
to create a real ‘win-win’ situation for our financial supporters.
While members of our school community endeavor during the year to raise much needed funds, we do rely on the gener-
ous support of local businesses and patrons to ensure our school and children have the quality resources they need. For
the cost, it seems to represent a sound advertising investment.
Should you have any queries please contact our P&F President Belinda McLeod on
0431 272 232 or email [email protected]. Thank you for considering this invitation and we look forward to talking
with you soon.
Yours sincerely
