Overview When co-workers or customers interact with you, are they walking away “bragging” about how well they were treated and the great service they received? Overview Conflict makes most of us uncomfortable. But there are ways to turn it around to a beneficial part of the workplace landscape. First, we can even the playing field to a fair match. Respectful language, confidentiality, ground rules, and clarification of consequences of the conflict NOT being resolved are key. Reducing the over-all stress in the workplace can be another effective step, as high stress levels tend to worsen conflict. Sometimes we forget that people are generally out to protect their own interests, not to attack others. This interactive course will give participants the opportunity for hands-on practice and personal enlightenment from a brief survey. Objectives: 1. Overview This course explores another type of intelligence--emotional intelligence (EQ). Topics covered in this course include: defining and comprehending EQ, why EQ is required for success in today’s work environment, the four EQ key skills, and gaining greater insight into your own EQ and how to improve upon it. Overview We cannot perform our jobs in a vacuum. We know that we interact with many layers of our own organization as well as those outside our organization, but sometimes we don’t realize to what extent. This course will demonstrate how using a systems thinking approach will save you trouble (and dollars!) down the road by avoiding common pitfalls. It will show you that using a wide angle lens to get a clear picture of how your actions interrelate with other areas of your organization is more effective than a telephoto lens. Taking a page from biological science, we will study social systems, which include subsystems, structure, hierarchies, behavior, and feedback loops. Case studies will be collected and discussed to find more holistic ways to approach our goals. Find out why 2 + 2 = 5! Objectives: 1. Describe what a systems thinking approach in the

workplace is and determine your organization’s similarity.

It is a disciplined effort that produces fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is, who it serves, what it does, and why it does it, with a focus on the future. Effective strategic planning articulates not only where an organization is going and the actions needed to make progress, but also how it will know if it is successful. Objectives:

1. Define a strategic plan.

2. Discuss the attributes of a good strategic plan.

4. Identify the basic phases of strategic planning.

A design methodology is a series of tasks used for the development of training that will produce the expected learning outcomes. Training is usually continuous, and always necessary in order to teach and cultivate new skills, and improve productivity. The 21st century represents a highly competitive new global economy wherein MOST organizations require their learners stay informed of new policies, competencies, and other essentials that may be delivered in various modalities to be utilized whenever necessary. Objectives:

1. Identify the methodologies necessary to create engaging instructional materials.

2. Prepare, and organize the general concepts to create meaningful instruction.

3. Compare practical solutions to create effective learning in the best mode of delivery.

Overview The training manager or learning specialist will inevitably be required by a company to develop meaningful, and engaging e-learning modules that inform and instruct the trainees with the skills and policies the establishment requires. This seminar is a professional development instructor-led training (ILT) course that can improve your skills in the area of creating e-learning modules. These concepts may also be used to convert face-to-face (F2F) training into e-learning modality.

Objectives:

1. Transform the training content into informative e-learning product.

2. Apply the general concepts of successful presentations.

3. Illustrate, and distinguish the important concepts through the use of media.

4. Produce a new course using new tools for a media rich program.

Effective Technical Writing One Day (8 hours) Overview Created with the Instructional Systems Designer in mind, this course will bring immediate improvements to your development-related documents. Write the most concise documents possible using the tips you learn in this course. Real examples will be shared of how miscommunicating with team members, clients, leadership, and subject matter experts (SMEs) can lead to negative consequences, and potential solutions will be discussed. Examples of poor and clear writing will be compared. A grammar and punctuation refresher will be given. Participants will practice using templates to construct proposals, SME meeting minutes, needs analyses, design documents, and evaluations as well as formats for training materials. Objectives: 1. Correctly identify the audience for which you

are writing. 2. Identify different methods of collecting and

organizing documents, then choose the best one using a given template.

3. Identify correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation on given sentences.

4. Concisely write a variety of training-related documents using given templates.

5. Given a checklist, avoid the most common mistakes by careful proofreading.

Designing Powerful Presentations Half Day (4 hours) Overview Training and development that bears a lasting impact becomes important to the new recruit and all stakeholders. The training specialist must approach the task of creating engaging presentations, using purposeful methods and tools to create presentations that are meaningful and enthralling. This course will focus on presentation topics, trends, and important aspects that will prepare the trainer prior to delivering and/or facilitating any kind of training presentation. Objectives:

1. Discuss the methodologies for delivering engaging presentations.

2. Apply the general principles and practice of successful presentations.

3. Diagnose needs to align with the best practical media for the effective delivery of module training with a slide presentation, and as a presenter/facilitator.

4. Formulate a new course presentation using familiar tools in a media rich format.

Role and responsibility review is a must on an ISD project, so find out how to do it right in this course. Tips to prevent duplicate work and miscommunications will be covered. Maximize your time and your client’s time with appropriate preparation, organization, and efficiency. Objectives: 1. Identify and clarify the role each team member (both

client and ISD team) plays and what responsibilities he/she has on a project.
