Planting the Gospel in Northeast Edmonton Crosspoint Church is pursuing an exciting opportunity to change the location of our Ministry Centre, from its current location at 13013- 156 th Street NW, to a new location. The facility we are considering is the Klarvatten Plaza, located on the corner of 84 th Street and 167 th Avenue. This new, undeveloped facility is located in northeast Edmonton, in a beautiful residential area, with proximity to schools, parks, and other commercial businesses. Crosspoint would occupy two combined suites, on the second floor, for a total of 2762-square feet. We would develop it into office space, with a large multi-purpose room, substantial meeting room, kitchenette, storage room, and restrooms. In the next pages, we will outline the rationale for this decision, provide estimated financial requirements, and explain what part you might play in seeing this vision come to life.

What is compelling us to move?At its inception, Crosspoint was planted, with the impulse to reach northeast Edmonton with the gospel. This region of the city has few gospel-centered, mission-focused churches, with physical, geographical presence in the community. It is also a region with much need and much brokenness. With God’s help, we launched in the fall of 2010. Crosspoint started hosting Sunday gatherings in the Northgate Lions Seniors Recreation Centre (NGLSRC) and began leasing the Ministry Centre shortly after.

The current Ministry Centre is not situated in an ideal location. It is in a remote, light-industrial, warehouse district in northwest Edmonton, outside of the region Crosspoint is trying to reach. This location was chosen because a space was needed to house our equipment trailer. In the past several months, a new door has opened for Crosspoint. We are now able to store our equipment in the same building where we host our Sunday Gatherings. This has given us the freedom to look for a new location. Still another door has opened for us. In conferring with our landlord, he has agreed to release us early from our lease, in order to pursue this new venture.

We believe this new location will create more opportunities for kingdom advancement, and the growth of Crosspoint. Rather than being isolated in a warehouse district, we will be situated in the neighbourhood we are trying to reach. This new location would only replace the Ministry Centre, NOT the Sunday Gathering location (NGLSRC).

The Klarvatten Plaza is still being developed. In the future, it may house multiple businesses, including a daycare, bakery/coffee house, convenience store, restaurant, professional offices, and other

businesses. We believe this move will give Crosspoint more accessibility and exposure to the community. The facility is also located across the street from Florence Hallock, a K-to-9 school, with an enrollment of close to eight-hundred students. Across 82nd Street, there is the Belle Rive Medicentre, which is a hub of community activity. Finally, the facility is near extensive, new neighborhood development (Crystallina Nera, McConachie, Cy Becker). We envision being able to host meetings in the coffee shop, building bridges between our children’s ministry and the daycare clients, making connections with the local school, and even rubbing shoulders with some of the other professional organizations in the building. In short, it’s a prime location for connectivity with the local community.

Further, this new facility will provide one of Crosspoint’s more critical needs: meeting space. It will include a large multi-purpose room, as well as a mid-sized board room. In addition, the new owner is considering developing a future banquet facility, which he has offered to us, at no cost, as needed. This additional could potentially be used for banquets, Alpha ministry, student ministry, and other forms of outreach. In the past, Crosspoint has needed to rent outside facilities for these kinds of ministries. This

lack of meeting space has been a bottleneck for growth. Having a central meeting space will create more opportunities for connection and will help retain newcomers.

What’s the cost?Understandably, this new facility comes with a price tag. It will mean an increase in monthly leasing costs, as well as some up-front capital development of the space.

The owner of the building has reduced the leasing costs for the space substantially below market cost – which means this is an incredible opportunity. Our new leasing cost, compared to our current warehouse location, will increase by approximately $300 per month (about ten percent). This increase will not significantly alter our annual budget, since we will see a reduction in other expenses, such as utilities and vehicle costs. The greater challenge for Crosspoint will be the leaseholder improvement costs. After consulting with contractors, the lowest bid has come in at an estimated $214,000. Factoring in other unknown, expenses, we are estimating the build to cost $220,000.

We’re off to a great start! The good news is that our C&MA District Office is willing to offer us an interest-free loan for the first two years of this project. We are not required to make any payments during this time, but if we pay off half of the loan in the first two years, they will extend our interest-free loan for another year.

Beulah Alliance Church has also offered to provide us with up to $60,000 in grant money. We are so thankful for the support of our sister church.

Further, Crosspoint currently has approximately $16,000 in capital assets, that it can put toward these improvement costs.

Final Total $(144,000)

We celebrate that we are already one-third toward reaching our goal. God is good!

Our next steps together…Crosspoint Church is a small church with big potential. Since its inception, over 75 people have made commitments to Christ, over 40 people have been baptized, and dozens of small groups have been launched, where lives are being transformed through the Spirit and the Word. We have engaged in multiple externally-focused, community-based partnerships, and have raised over $300,000 to assist those whose lives have been devastated by human trafficking. Each summer we host Kid’s Kapers camps, and through the years, over three-hundred unchurched kids, from northeast Edmonton, have witnessed the love of God, embodied in a group of people who care for each other and care for their

community. Our people are actively involved in incarnating the gospel – being the hands, feet, and voice of Jesus - where they eat, recreate, and live. Block parties are happening all over the place, and disciples of Jesus are right there in their midst.

All of this to say – Crosspoint Church is doing good work. But we can do so much more. A move to this new location would provide a strategic location for Crosspoint to carry out its mission of reaching lost people and making disciples.

At our Annual Meeting in September, there was tremendous enthusiasm for us to “keep moving forward” with this project. This decision meant that we would make a final decision, after we received more information about development costs and outside funding. A future congregational meeting would determine this final decision.

We believe that the next step involves receiving pledges from our Crosspoint community. We have come to realize that we have no way of knowing what our church community is able to give toward this project. To make a good and final decision, we need good information.

A pledge drive is an opportunity for your household to make a faith commitment about what you intend to give toward this vision. Not only will it enable Crosspoint to steward this project well, it will also help you to focus your stewardship priorities, and stretch you to trust God for provision. The information you submit through a pledge card will be kept confidential.

You can complete the pledge card in this packet, or visit our website: thecrosspointchurch.ca/pledge.

What can you do?We believe God is asking our congregation to respond with bold faith. To do this, can we encourage you to take four faith steps?

PRAYTalk to God. Ask him to lead you and give you a new level of generosity. Ask him what your role in supporting this vision could look like. If you are married or have children, do this together.

REFLECTTake the time to listen to God’s leading. Examine your financial situation and look at ways that you can make a sacrificial gift, at one time, or over a season.

DISCUSSSeek time to speak openly about your contribution with others you trust. Your spouse, friend, or financial advisor may offer you wisdom and clarity.

COMMITStep out in faith and give your ongoing support. Complete a pledge card and submit it to one of our staff team members, or leave it in the offering plate during a Sunday gathering.

Thank you for your continued partnership in the gospel. Together we can do more!

Our prayer is that your contribution in God’s kingdom work will be used to help people find their way back to God, and experience his life-changing power for eternity.
