Week 1: Thesis Statements Each day of week 1 we will take a few

minutes each period and work on proper thesis statement writing using a sample Gateway Test prompt.

Students should record their practice in a notebook of their choosing. The notebooks will be collected once the review month has concluded. The notebook will count as a project grade!

Week 2: Document Analysis For week 2 students will practice

working with a variety of documents by critically analyzing them and incorporating Gateway writing skills.

Student work should continue to be recorded in their Gateway prep notebooks.

Week 3: Strong vs weak essays In the 3rd week of Gateway prep students

will work on modeling strong essays & comparing strong essay to weaker essays.

Students will be asked to re-write short excerpts of “proficient” or “exceeding” scored writing as well as look for what makes the examples “proficient” or “exceeding”

Student work should continue to be recorded in their Gateway Prep notebooks

Week 1 Day 1 Identify and explain the issues that

led to the Protestant Reformation and the ideas leading reformers offered to change the Catholic Church. Identify the problems within the Catholic

Church. Identify the reform ideas of Martin Luther. Identify the ideas that came out of the

Counter Reformation.

Week 1 Day 2 Social Class Structure: Egyptian

Social Class Structure Explain how ancient Egypt was able to

develop into a successful social structure? Explain how their belief system and way

of life contributed to their social structure? Explain how leadership and religion

helped to develop the social structure of the Egyptians.

How did the development of new jobs create a new social class structure.

Revolution and its impact. Be sure to discuss the following: A. Changes in farming that led to

substantial population growth B. Inventions of the Industrial Revolution C. Problems that faced the new factory

workers and city dwellers.
