A very special thank youDear Chess for Success friends,

This organization’s 24th year has been a success. Over 4,000 K-12 students participated in Chess for Success programming in tournaments and after-school chess clubs. Chess for Success served 81 schools in 21 school districts across nine counties. This year we were fortunate to have over 100 volunteers who donated over 2,200 hours of their time.

Other highlights from the year include an opportunity for middle school students at Faubion School to earn credit with chess as an elective. For the second year, students learned chess in class and the after-school club. Staff also returned to Hillcrest Correctional Facility to hold a tournament for incacerated youth on President’s Day, and it was a great success. At the State Tournament, there was an unprecedented six-way tie for first place in the K-5 division.

I am pleased to report that Chess for Success continues to have a healthy and stable funding stream. We are grateful for the support of our program from corporations, foundations, and individuals. All over the state, chess is part of students’ lives, thanks to the generous contributions of our donors. It costs Chess for Success just $150 to provide a year of chess per student, a bargain compared to other after-school activities.

I am pleased to present the progress that we have made during the 2015-2016 school year, and hope for your continued support in the years to come.

Thank you,
