“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”
Happy Thanksgiving November 2015
What Thanksgiving means
T---is for thankfulness for many joys and blessings---
H---is for our homes so warm and bright----
A---is for autumn time for harvest and abundance___
N---is for nature’s beauty and delight---
K---is for the kitchens where good food is cooked with
love-
S---for spicy fragrances in the air---
G---is for the gathering of family and friends---
I---for the inheritance we share---
V---is for the visions that the Pilgrims held so dear---
I---is for high ideals in all they planned---
N---is for our native country brave and great and free---
G---for God’s great goodness to our land---
Remember to fly your flag on Veterans Day. Honor the many heroes from all the wars who died for our freedom and peace.
____________________________________________
Freedom is not Free
There is a price we pay for freedom
For it is not truly free
But rather paid for by the contributions of veterans
To buy our Liberty
As their blood drains from their body and runs like a river through the grass
I don’t think we all realize the importance veterans play
As they voluntarily serve America each and every day
We should honor the veterans for they act like a shield
Protecting us from danger, keeping America healed.
So if you would take a second to commemorate
You will instantly see
We owe veterans our gratitude
For they are the reason we are free.

I am looking for wedding anniversaries celebrated for each month of the year. We
have so many in this community who have shown wedded bliss for so many years and we
would like to acknowledge all.
Please submit to me (Phyllis) by the 15th of each month so it can be shared by all.
from Tom’s desk.
Hello Southfork,
We have a lot going on for this winter season so that means we will
need some help, remember, we are all volunteers. So if you see
something you would like to help with, let one of us know, you might
just like it. Check the newsletter, bulletin board and the big sign for
all of our activities. We have a very nice Bocce Ball court so let’s use
it. Please, someone, step forward and take charge.
We are going to have a welcome back party at the Pavillion on Nov 7th
at 4pm and all are welcome. It will be a cook out by “Bahr’s Propane”.
They will do the cooking and furnish the meat. The HOA will furnish
the rest. So, please sign up so we know how many will be attending.
Nov 14th
will be our carport sale from 8am to 12pm. The HOA will be
serving coffee and doughnuts and again we will need help with this.
Give me a call.
The Women’s Club Bazaar will be Nov 21st
from 8am to noon.
The Association Fall Membership meeting will be Monday, Nov 23rd
. It
is a very important meeting, so plan to attend. We will be taking
nominations for officers and directors for next year and the time is
9am.
Thanksgiving Dinner will be a Pot Luck at 4pm. We will need some
help and the turkeys will be furnished by Southfork Management.
See you around the Park. Tom

We need your input, questions and suggestions (bring some with you)
For all members, there may be a vote on association issues needed and we need your input
Newer things happening and we want to make this an active year again!
COME ONE…COME ALL…VOLUNTEER…
In order to continue our activities successfully, we need volunteers who are willing to donate their
time and talent as committee members for our various functions. There is a place for everyone who
would like to participate. Please join us, as a helper or a worker, whether you have a little time or a
lot, there is an activity which needs you and that could be selling of the 50/50 tickets, set up or
whatever. We need participation from all of you in order to have an interesting, active association
community which all of us can enjoy. If you can help in any way, please contact Tom G or any of the
board members which are listed on page 2 of the newsletter.
Women’s Club
On Oct 7th
, 31 Members including 3 new members met in the Clubhouse for
their monthly Meeting. The clubhouse was nicely decorated by Carol Albers and
Katie Bellnier. Thanks for a job well done.
Carol Albers presented 21 baby quilts that will be donated to the Battered
Women's Shelter and if any excess of quilts are made, they will be donated to
Cornerstone For Women. The reports were read and approved. The quilters are
working on items to be raffled for the Bazaar.
Thanks to Carol Whitbeck for decorating the pots at the Pool with Halloween
Colors And now she is working on the Fall and holidays decorations.
We celebrated the October birthdays Carol Albers and Phyllis Grossi.
Because we did not have a speaker for this meeting we played a few games of
Bingo To the pleasure of the Ladies. Tanya Hahn as generous as ever gave 4 bags of
Avon Products to be raffled and Verna King gave a nice handmade shawl that was
also raffled.
Some sheets were passed out for the members to sign and volunteer on what
Committee They would like to help on.
1) Charity Committee
2) Bazaar/ Baskets/food,(sloppy Joes) //Help where needed.
3) X-Mas party and the soup Supper (in March)
We had a very good response and those sheets will be passed again in November to
include the Snowbirds, I want to thank everyone who signed those sheets - Together
we can do great things. The main topic was the Bazaar Nov. 21st
John the Mgr is helping us with the setting of the tables according to Mary
Bolin's Plan. Katie Bellnier is in charge of the Bake Good table.
We will have many baskets to be raffled and we will have Sloppy Joes with chips and
a drink for $3.00 Come and support us this is how we can raise money for Charity.
Carol Albers reminded everyone that we are collecting old reading glasses.
There is a box in the Library and they will be given to the Lion's Club.
Next month Nov 4th
, Betty Butler of Maverick Dr. is co-ordinating this with
someone of the Pasco Sheriff Dept who will be here to talk on Self-defense.
It should be very interesting.
We will also celebrate the summer birthdays.
Be sure to be there because it will be a very busy and interesting meeting.
Marielle
Please let me introduce, just in the event you have not had the pleasure,
Dixie and Pete Logoyda. Dixie and Pete are from Western Pennsylvania and
have been with the Southfork Community for 14 years. After visiting family
on the East Coast, after many visits, checking out comfortable, congenial
places to live, to our benefit, they decided on Southfork. Actually Palm
Harbor introduced us to them. Yea!
They have 4 children, 15 grand children,
and 1 great grandchild.
Apparently at a dance, a few years back,
Pete noticed this long legged gal, in khaki
pants, tooling around the dance floor,
ogled her, as he is known to do, And became
smitten, guess the feeling was mutual, they
have been a couple ever since.
Dixie enjoyed her duties, bringing up four
wonderful children, while Pete provided for
his family as an aircraft mechanic. As the
children became adults, Dixie found
pleasure in playing the Dulcimer, enjoyed
taking lessons and attending concerts with
Pete. A beautiful instrument I might add.
After moving to Southfork, both became very
active in our community, both serving as
vice-president on our HOA board, board
members, and served many a monthly
breakfast for several years, yes with help,
but they were always
steering the ship. Monday morning coffee, you will see the donuts arrive,
via Pete, and the making of fresh brewed coffee. 50/50, fun for residents
and capital for HOA, again Pete is at the helm. Playing Pool is one of
Pete's favorite, and helping to run the shuffleboard tournament is another
ships wheel he steers. Forgot to mention he is our photographer at most
functions. Thanks for all that. Also, full time residents.
Speaking of ships, they have enjoyed many cruises with other Southfork
residents. When Armand and I moved in, we were approached by them, asking if
we would be interested in running for office. I remember saying to Armamd,
"They like us, they really like us,". A bit like Sally Field at the oscars.
Huuummmm, still wondering about that.
Adjectives: Kind, caring, considerate, pleasant, hard working, loyal,
helpful. Just to mention a few. They describe Pete and Dixie. Lauren,(a
registered nurse), granddaughter, is currently serving on a Mercy Ship in
Madagascar, just showing, the Apple does not fall far from the tree.
You will see Dixie quilting and line dancing, and if the instructor plays the
right tune, Toes In The Water, yes, you have it, Pete will also be "vining to
the right." Need a ride to an out of park social get together, always an
extra seat in the van. I have had the privilege of occupying that seat on
many occasions. Thanks for all you do and will continue to do, I am proud to
be considered your friend.

NOVEMBER 2015 IN SOUTHFORK
11/1 – Daylight Savings Time Ends and darkness comes earlier. We get that hour back we
lost in March and remember to set your clocks back.
11/11 – Veterans Day – What a special time to salute and honor all our Veterans. They
deserve all the praise and recognition we can give them! Thanks to each and every one of
those who have and still are serving our wonderful country! Many gave their lives and many
still wear the scars. God Bless all!
11/26 – Thanksgiving Day – A time for family and friends to get together and give “thanks” for
all we’ve been blessed with. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all and those who are traveling to be
with families and friends - have a safe and blessed holiday!
(Remember, you are what you eat!)
And last, but not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all you “cool” November folks!
Well, it is time to reveal the “WHO IN THE “SOUTHFORK” WORLD IS THIS” from our October
newsletter. See how many you got correct! Here goes…..
#1 – PHYLLIS GROSSI – born Phyllis Barreca in Brownsville, PA on October 31st
! We all know
Phyllis around Southfork for all she does along with being chief editor and contributor of our
Southfork News!
AND…….
#5 – PAT GROSSI – born in Lockport, NY on August 5th
. Pat and Phyllis met at the famous
Niagara Falls and returned there August 1, 1959 to be united in marriage! They retired in
2004 in Schwenksville, PA and moved to Southfork in August 2004.
#2 – TOM GEYER – born on a farm in Marysville, OH on February 21st
. Tom never ventured a
move from Ohio (until here) and had a tire business there for 40 years. He is also a private
pilot and has owned several planes during his lifetime. He and his wife, Judy, have been
married 34 years and they left Ohio for their new home in Southfork Florida 12 years ago. Of
course everyone knows what an important role Tom has as our Association President!
#3 – KATHY GALLICK – born Kathleen Strang in Stratford, CT on December 8th
and was
raised there too. Kathy says, however, that her heart has always been in Vermont. I can
see why. Kathy moved to Southfork 10 years ago. She contributes so much to our
community; one being the line dance instructor and another as contributing writer for our
monthly newsletter, just to mention a couple.
#4 – JEAN DEISS (yours truly) – born Jean Snedigar in Newcastle, IN on August 31st
; raised in
central IL; lived in and around Arlington, TX for the last 25+ years before moving to FL. I
thought TX was where my heart would stay until I reunited with Larry Ruffner (we had dated
53 ago in IL). Both losing our spouses, we rekindled old flames and now my heart has been
here in Southfork since early 2012! (I never imaged anyone would guess this one, but
needed an extra pic!)
Okay, so you have the scoop! There’s much more to write about these folks but you know a
little about their “roots.” We’ve added five more “cuties” in this issue. Good luck as this is a
tough one!!!!
Until next time…Make it a great day – every day!
Jean Deiss (863)602-1535 (email: [email protected])

dude was born and raised in the
Midwest. He’s been a true Floridian
since the early 70’s and made his
home in Southfork in 2001 – far
away from the boxing world!
#4 Look at this this cute little sailor. He
was born in New York and has quite a

his home in Southfork less than ten
