“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”
Happy New Year January 2015
Here’s to the new year... May it bring more joy and success
And less grief and regret.
To our dreams...
May we never stop believing in them
And taking the actions that will make them a reality.
To our friends, loved ones, neighbors...
May we take the time to let them know
How much it means to us To have them in our lives.
Let us encourage more and criticize less, Give more and need less.
And whenever we can, Let us create harmony and peace.
To new beginnings...
Let us start fresh, right now, To make this the very best year ever.
A very Happy New Year to all of us!
January
January opens a new door for a new year and brings out days that are bright and clear.
It brings out days that are cold and gray, and shouts, “Come see what I brought out today.”
So please review all coming events here in the community that are listed in the monthly newsletter and to all old and new residents, come and enjoy..
Hope this is a start of a New Year with good health and fellowship!

Southfork Annual Association Meeting
What: Our annual homeowner’s meeting is a chance to meet new neighbors,
catch up with old friends and discuss local issues. The January meeting has
been designated by our by-laws to be the first meeting of the fiscal year with
any elections/changes needed and to be voted on. Please plan to attend and
learn what’s happening in Southfork!
Where: Southfork Clubhouse, January 26th, 2015 at 9A.M. sharp!
Why: It’s your neighborhood, too! With our combined efforts, we can
continue to make our community a better social environment with better
communication to everyone. We need everyone’s support to help and vote on
issues that everyone is happy with! It is next to impossible to please everyone
but there are ways to try and appease most of the people.
Who: You, the homeowners, must have your yearly dues paid by January 15th
in order to vote on any issues. The annual yearly dues is $20.00 per
household and only one (1) member of each household is eligible to vote.
Submit payment to Secretary, Carol Wild, 11108 Maverick Dr or place in the
suggestion box in the lobby of the clubhouse.
How: No need to RSVP, just show up!
Reason: Come and interact with friends and neighbors. So, if you want
“change” this is the time to do it!!! Please, come and submit those ideas that
you may be thinking about. If you do not speak up, you will never know if it
is something that can make a change. We wait to hear from you, our
members.
Southfork Phone Directory
Just a reminder that the phone directories should be delivered to the management office by
the first week of February.
They will not be delivered to each home and each resident must come to the office to pick up
their copy.
Please note if any changes, deletions or additions must be made, remember, that the
management office does not give me any phone numbers to be published but all this info
must be given or sent to Phyllis Grossi, 11150 Mesquite or send via email to
[email protected] by the resident.
Any changes given now will not be reflected until the next directory in year 2016.
Thanks, Phyllis Grossi

What the Snowbirds missed this Summer
Easy access to 301 – no traffic
Seeing and hearing the mowers, mowing and blowing grass weekly
Beautiful sunsets
Ladies breakfast outings each month
Card nights at the clubhouse
Days with thunder all day long, but no rain
Monthly activities
Hundreds of flashes of brilliant lightning
Wondering where the customers were in many stores with empty parking lots
Daily pool visitors and almost having the pool to themselves.
Women’s Club
On December 3rd, 42 Members of the Women's Club went to the
Golden Corral for the annual Christmas Party.
This meal paid for by the club was for all the members in
recognition of their generosity and their work during the
entire year.
We had a good time and thank you to Tanya for the 4 gifts she
donated that we raffled.
Next month on Jan 7th we will have our 1st meeting of the new
year in the Clubhouse at 9:30am.
We have a lot of things to discuss and also don't forget your
2015 dues which are due.
Happy New Year to all,
Marielle

BINGO
Let’s start the New Year 2015 with a lot of new winners at our Bingo on
Wednesday evenings. It does not seem possible we are into another new year
so if you have nothing to do on Wednesday evenings, come join us in a game of
bingo.
Doors open at 5:15pm and the selling of the bingo sheets stops at 6:15pm. The
games start at 6:30pm with a 50/50 starting off the evening.
SOUTHFORK’S CHRISTMAS PAGEANT , December 6th, 2014
A special thanks to all that helped decorate the hall, decorate the beautiful Christmas tree
and joined in the lighting of our tree. Thanks for the cookies and drinks. Now we were told
we would be viewing Christmas Characters, well assuming the usual suspects, Santa, Rudolph
and possible a few elves we all waited patiently for their arrival.
“continued on the next page”
“continued from previous page”
We were certainly surprised at what followed. Russ Wild, a western preacher,
known as Marshall Curly Clupepper, arrived to tell his yarn of being in the
plains, needing food and finding himself surrounded by a pack of wolves.
Taking a knee and lowering his head, he asked to be saved. When he raised his
head, he found the wolves had abandoned him, only to circle the Lamb of God.
Mike Miller, as the Grinch, try hard as he might, and he did try very hard, found
he could not take the Christmas spirit out of the town of “Who.” The spirit
remained with no toys, no trees, but the joy of the day.
John Bartoszek, our manager, portrayed a saloon patron who told the story of
the barkeeper, who took cash from his own cash drawer to help a young lady
get home for the holiday.
Linda Miller, portrayed an angel and projected what Christmas is really all
about.
Dot Cady, our president, with her keyboard, brought 80 Southfork residence
into harmony singing Christmas carols and wishing all a Merry Christmas.
Marvin Rush, last but not least, came with his jingle bells and Santa outfit
distributing candy canes and wishing each and every one of us a Merry
Christmas.
I don’t use this word often, but all I can say is “Awesome.”
Subnitted by, Kathy Gallick
In the New Year, we as neighbors, wish all of you the best year you’ve ever had,
and that each New Year will be better than the last. May you realize your
fondest dreams and take time to recognize and enjoy each and
every blessing!
Happy New Year and many more!

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION FOR EVERYONE
This year seems different somehow, despite the traditions and holidays as they have been for years
some families have lost loved ones, gained new grandchildren etc, that’s part of life. Expected losses
and gains have made the year memorable as we close the calendar of 2011. There is something
different in the air with the political parties, economy, job losses and fear of not knowing what the
future holds for all of us. Fear, but also patriotism and it’s time for America to change back into the
nation it once was and always has been.
This calls for a New Year’s resolution for everyone. Love your neighbor. Cherish your family.
Appreciate your Country (USA) for its rights, its freedom and its values. This is a resolution everyone
should be thinking about now. The world has changed, America has changed and so must
we……………………….
Happy New Years to all!!!
After Christmas
Twas the week after Christmas, and all through the house, nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I’d nibbled, the eggnog I’d taste, At the holiday parties all had gone to my waist. When I
got on the scales there arose such a number, when I walked to the store (less a walk than a number)
I’d remember the marvelous meals I’d prepared, the gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared. The
wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese, and the way I’d never said, “No thank you, please.”
As I dressed myself in my husband’s old shirt and prepared once again to do battle with dirt, I said to
myself as I only can, “You can’t spend a winter disguised as a man! So away with the last of the sour
cream dip, get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip. Every last bit of food that I like must be
banished.
“Till all the additional ounces have vanished” I won’t have a cookie, not even a lick. I’ll want only to
chew on a long celery stick. I won’t have hot biscuits or corn bread or pie. I’ll munch on a carrot and
quietly cry. I’m hungry, I’m lonesome and life is a bore, but isn’t that what January is for? Unable to
giggle, no longer a riot,
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!
Old Christmas Cards
Please save all the covers from your Christmas cards (any
greeting cards) and place them in the designated box in our
Library.
They will be sent to a group who uses them to decorate
Christmas stockings for prisoners. They used our cards from
last year and distributed over 1000 stockings. They sent
Southfork a very nice thank-you.
Thanks in advance!!
Carol Barnett

HELP-- help me please.
At the bazaar at the clubhouse a lady bought two of my ruffled
scarves. She said she wanted another one made to order. I've
been paid for them and she said she would come by to choose the
scarf. I'm waiting for her to choose her color.

A Christmas Pageant
By the Southfork Players
Those of you who were too busy to attend this event, missed an excellent show. We can only
hope that the team of Russ Wilds and Mike Miller return with another offering.
Sheriff “Curly” and the “Grinch” were awesome and tremendous supporting roles were
provided by Linda Miller, John Bartoszek and Santa (Marvin Rush). As it turned out, Santa
needed a bigger sack and maybe more Elves.

Tick Tock
I’m writing this in a state of shock, Watching the clock—tick tock,
tick tock, Advancing, approaching, relentlessly, A brand new year; Oh, can it be?
The calendar says the same thing, too; Time races, vanishes for me;
Boo hoo! No, wait! If time flies, I’m having fun! A year of fun! It’s
gone! It’s done!
I now embrace the blur of time, Because it simply means that I’m Too busy with pleasure, joy, delight To mourn the passing days’
swift flight.
So I’m wishing you fast, happy days, Pleasuring you in myriad ways,
Filled with happiness and cheer, Oh Happy, Happy Bright New Year!
By Joanna Fuchs
