Inbetween TV is an opportunity to watch American TV shows in order for internaƟonal students to learn slang, American cultural references, and overall improve conversaƟon skills in English. InformaƟonal handouts will be provided! We will be showing the TV show “Chuck”. Feel free to bring your lunch and enjoy American television with us! Every semester IELI produces a magazine featuring stories wriƩen by the students of IELI. Students are welcome to submit essays on a topic of their choice. For example, you could write about an experience in America, a funny story, interview a teacher or another student, or share something about your culture. The deadline for submissions will be Friday, April 4. Start thinking of topics now! If you have any quesƟons, please come by SYMR 202 or ask your teacher. Spring II tuiƟon payment of $2,967.00 is due by 3:00 pm on Friday, March 7. A late fee of $50 will be added to your account if payment is not made before 3:00 pm on Friday, March 7. If you would like to sign up for a Payment Plan, you MUST go to Alissa in SYMR 205 to sign up for an installment agreement BEFORE March 7. All schedule preferences for the Spring II term must be submiƩed online between Thursday, February 20 and Friday, February 28. When you complete the preference form, you must submit documentaƟon such as an ocial work schedule, your EIS class schedule, or an ocial leƩer from your child’s school or daycare to the Main Oce, SYMR 204. Go to ieli.unt.edu; log in with your EUID and password. If you have special circumstances, you must submit your request and the appropriate documentaƟon before the deadline of February 28, 2014. Very few changes will be able to be made aŌer the Spring I term begins. Dallas Symphony Orchestra Saturday, March 1, 5:30 pm 11:30 pm. A symphony is a classical music concert. The concert we are aƩending is called “Bolero” and is a collecƟon of pieces that are described as being of “great beauty”. Sign up and pay in Alissa’s oce, SYMR 205 from Monday – Thursday. It will cost $5 for students, and $20 for friends and family. You must sign up and pay by Thursday, February 27. Remember to dress in your nicest clothes! (Please do not wear ipops, sandals, tshirts, or jeans as this is not considered “formal wear”). Please return any items you checked out from the IELI Lab (ex: movies, books) before Feb. 28. If you do not return your items to the Lab, you will not receive your nal grade report. The next mee ng In‐Between TV mee ng will be 12:00 pm ‐1:00 pm, Tuesday and Friday this week in MARQ 210. In‐between TV is an opportunity to watch

Need to prac ce your English? Want to meet with Americans? Students in Levels 0‐2 should come to Conversa on Hour! There will be games and snacks! This is a good way to make 

new friends, have fun, and prac ce your English outside of class. Conversa on Hour will be EVERY MONDAY from 4:00 pm ‐5:00 pm                          in  SYMR 260 (The Student Lounge).

 Jujin Matsunari and Mika Nakamura are the Outstanding Students of the Spring 1 Term! 

 Since moving from Japan and star ng at IELI last fall, Jujin and Mika have worked very hard to improve their English skills, and they can o en be seen par cipa ng in IELI ac vi es and events.    Mike Lioy said, “Mika is a good leader among peers, has outstanding study skills, posi ve a tude, and a warm and helpful personality,”  Mika’s Level 1 Wri ng teacher , Dan Buller, added,  “Mika is very though ul with her teachers and classmates. She’s also very diligent in comple ng her homework.” 

             Jujin’s Level 2 Communica on teacher, Pat Bull, had this to say about Jujin. “He was never absent or tardy. He always had his homework done. He had a vocabulary average of 99%. When he gave his speaking presenta on, he surpassed anything I could have done. He was thoroughly prepared, and he delivered his presenta on like a professional. He delighted working with all his classmates and helping the more shy students get involved.” 

                                     

                                                              Need to improve your English wri ng skills? This 10 lesson free workshop will benefit your wri ng here at UNT and beyond. The lessons will be EVERY 

MONDAY  beginning March 3 from 6:00 pm ‐ 7:00 pm and will be taught by Alyssa Hedenstrom. To register, email Ms.

         The last day of Spring I will be Tuesday, March 4. There will be no classes from March 10 ‐ 14 because of Spring Break. The first day of Spring II will be Monday, March 17. If you plan to travel, please do not plan to leave before 5:00 PM on March 4.  

 

             There will be a small recogni on 

ceremony on Friday, March 7, from 11:00 to 

11:30 am in SYMR 203 for the Spring I Level 6 

graduates. Students who plan to a end will sign 

up in their Level 6 class on Tuesday of Week 7. At the 

recep on, the students will be able to pick up their cer ficates, 

have refreshments, and take pictures with their classmates.
