Adult Division – Rules and Regulations

1. Open to any adult resident of Rapides Parish.

2. Only 2013-2014 products may be exhibited. (Made since the 2013 fair). Articles previously exhibited will disqualified.

3. Prizes will be awarded only to articles deemed worthy of a prize by the judges.

4. Articles that are not on this premium list will not be accepted for exhibited.

5. Only one article may be entered for each premium by any one exhibitor.

6. Canned products accepted in standard jars only (ex. Ball, Kerr, Mason, and Golden Harvest jars.

7. All items not advancing to State Fair are to be picked up at the Rapides Parish Fair between the hours of 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2014. Articles not picked up after the Rapides Parish Fair must be picked up between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 13, 2014. At the end of this period, if not claimed, these items will be donated to a worthy cause, Exception – Fresh Fruits and Vegetables will be disposed of at the fairgrounds, at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2014.

8. *Instructions for items progressing to the State fair are available as separate fact sheet. You

may obtain one from the Extension/4-H office.

9. Permission by the exhibitor must be given at time of entry in order for articles to be sent to the state fair.

ALL RULES, REGULATIONS, PREMIUM OFFERINGS, ETC., APPEARING IN THIS CATALOG ARE SUBJECT TO CORRECTION IN EVENT OF ANY PRINTING ERRORS THAT WOULD TEND TO CHANGE THE MEANING OR INTENT.

Outstanding Adult Exhibitor Points will be awarded on all entries in the Adult Division as follows:

Youth Division

Pet Show

Rules and Regulations – Open to residents of Rapides Parish Only.

1. Any type of pet (with the exception of dogs) can be shown as long as it can be handled or controlled by the individual. The pet must belong to the exhibitor. The pet must be a living, breathing anima!

2. Contestants will be competing for trophies and ribbons in these categories: 1. Cutest Pet 5. Most Lovable Pet 2. Best All Around Pet 6. Biggest Pet 3. Most Unusual Pet 7. Smallest Pet 4. Best Groomed Pet 8. Best Behave Pet

3. All pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets should they have an accident. Disposal materials will be provided. It is suggested you exercise your pet before the show to reduce this possibility.

CLASS 4 PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST General Rules: 1. This contest is open to any Kindergarten through 3rd grade class in any school in the Rapides Parish School System and the parochial school system within Rapides Parish. Accredited private schools may also take part in this contest. 2. A class may enter one (1) entry in the contest. One entry is defined as ONE decorated pumpkin. (Example: Mrs. Brown’s 1st grade class at ABC Elementary may enter one (1) decorated pumpkin as a class project into competition.) 3. NO carving of pumpkins is allowed. No artificial pumpkins may be used. The pumpkin cannot be a miniature pumpkin in size. 4. All pumpkins must be decorated without any cutting made to the pumpkin. All decorating must be completed prior to arrival at the Fair. 5. Completed pumpkins must be brought to the Fair’s Exhibit Building between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7th for entry into the contest. The pumpkins will remain on display the duration of the Fair. 6. RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. All classes of this division open for competition only to bonafide members of the 4-H, FFA, and FCCLA clubs in Rapides Parish. An exhibitor must be 9 years old before January 1, 2015 to be eligible to exhibit.JUNIOR EXHIBITOR—Exhibitors who are under 14 years of age as of January 1, 2015. SENIOR EXHIBITOR—Exhibitors who are 14 years of age or older as of January 1, 2015. In all classes, the age of the contestant is computed as of January 1, 2015. 3. Only current year products may be exhibited in all classes except livestock. 4. Each exhibitor may enter only one (1) article in each premium number except in livestock classes or as noted. 5. A high school graduate who is attending college may exhibit his/her first regular semester in college. 6. Exhibitors will not be permitted to show more than 3 MARKET STEERS, 3 MARKET HOGS, 3 MARKET GOATS, OR 3 MARKET LAMBS. Exhibitors will be allowed to show only one (1) BREEDING BEEF, DAIRY, SWINE, GOAT, SHEEP and/or HORSE per class. 7. All exhibitors will use their own animals in SHOWMANSHIP & PERFORMANCE classes. 8. Exhibitors are required to furnish water and feed troughs, all feed and hay, and will be responsible for care of their animals and cleaning of pens and tie spaces during the Fair. (NO straw will be allowed for bedding in the barn.) 9. No hay to be fed in the bedding area. 10. In Beef, Dairy, Swine and Sheep Breeding, animals must be registered in the name of the youth exhibitor. 11. Any animal that is not halter broke and is considered unsafe by the Livestock Committee, that is to be shown by the 4-H exhibitor, will be removed from the show. 12. All animals must be tied in their designated area from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. each day except while grooming animals.

13. Superintendents will be responsible for operating the scales for weighing of all market animals. 14. Exhibitors violating this rule will forfeit premium money. 15. Dog Show (*Open only to Rapides Parish Residents)

1. 4-H members must enter their dogs in the 4-H Division of the Dog Show. 4-H members must

enter their animals in the Non 4-H Division (ages 4-18). Only for 4-H Dog Show will juniors and Seniors Divisions be divided as follows: Junior (4th -7th grade); Senior (8th-12th grade)

2. Dogs need not be registered or purebred to enter competition, but must be owned by the handler.

3. A dog may be entered and show in only one division of the Dog Show. An exhibitor may show only one dog.

4. A dog may only be shown once by one person. In other words, the same dog cannot be shown by more than one person and can only be show one time.

5. Any dog who is unmanageable or exhibits any temper toward judges, handlers, or other dogs will be excused from the ring and will not be place in the competition.

6. Dogs will be entered in competition according to the dog’s height. They will be entered as SMALL, MEDIUM, or LARGE. The following heights will be used:

SMALL DOG – under 12 inches MEDIUM DOG -12 inches through 18 inches LARGE DOG – over 18 inches

7. It is suggested that all competitors check their dog’s rabies and parvo vaccination certificate and see that they are current.

8. All dogs owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs should they have an accident. Disposal materials will be provided. It is suggested you exercise your pet before the show to reduce this possibility.

9. Winners in each class of both the 4-H and Non 4-H Dog Show will compete for BEST DOG OF SHOW 4-H and BEST DOG OF SHOW NON 4-H. Trophies will be awarded to each class winner, and ribbons to all participants.

10. Dogs must wear a collar and a leash only. No decoration is permitted in dog show. 11. Dogs will be judged on grooming, appearance, and handling. 12. Decision of judges is final.

Notice: NEW HEALTH REGULATIONS FOR POULTRY - The Louisiana Livestock Sanitary Board recently passed the following regulation – Regulation 11768 Admittance of Louisiana Poultry to Fairs, Livestock Shows and Poultry Shows which states: All poultry going to Louisiana fairs, livestock shows, and poultry shows shall be accompanied by a VS Form 9-2 indicating the flock of origin is under the National Poultry Improvement Plan is free of Salmonella gallinarum (typhoid). If the flock of origin is not under the National Poultry Improvement Plan, the birds of breeding age must be accompanied by VS Form 9-2 health certificate or Certificate of Veterinary inspection indicating the birds were tested negative or pullorum/thyphoid within 90 days prior to admittance to the fair.

time. 4. The heifer must have a tag in ear when she comes to the show in October. 5. The entries in this division will be judged as replacement heifers and should be fed and

fitted accordingly. 6. Each exhibitor must be able to show their heifers unassisted. Heifers will be shown at

halter and proper showing paraphemalia for the exhibitor is encouraged. Exhibitors will be allowed to groom the hair, brush the hair forward, up, or down, and clip the body hair. No grooming aids except soap and water must be used on show day. (For example: no tail balls, no hoof paint, no adhesives, no show sheens, no shaving cream, etc.)

7. Number of classes will be determined by the number of heifers exhibited. 8. Possession date for commercial heifers will be July 4, 2014. 9. The commercial heifers will be split by Brahman influence and Non-Brahman Influence. 10. Mouthing requirements will be determined by visual inspection of the teeth. Commercial

heifers must have their front baby teeth and must have no visible evidence of the first pair of permanent teeth. If baby teeth are not evident or permanent incisors are evident they will be classified as yearlings. Heifers that mouth as yearlings, will be allowed to show in the yearling class BUT NOT ALLOWED TO COMPETE FOR CHAMPION.

adhering transparent plastic sheets. 3. Each specimen shall be properly identified as to botanical and common name. This information

and exhibitor’s name, age, and school or parish fastened in the lower right corner of the mount. 4. Exhibit shall include individually mounted specimen displayed in a conventional loose-leaf

available from your local drug store. 3. Label each sample with common name as shown in No. 4 below. Names must be printed in

ink or typed on a piece of white paper approximately ½” X 1 ¾” and taped to the vial with clear tape.

4. A display will consist of thirty (30) samples of crop and weed seed commonly found in Louisiana. (Call the office -767-3968 for seed listings) Additional points may be earned by displaying up to six additional samples from list.

5. Vials must be displayed in a container as described below. This container can be made as follows:

a. Drill three rows of ten holes each (11 or 12 each if extra samples are included as described in NO. 4 above) in a dressed 1” x 6” board 22” to 26” long. The holes should be 15.16” in diameter. The center of each row should begin 2” from the end of the board and all holes in each row show be centered 2” apart. One row should be located in the middle of the board. The center of the holes in the two outside rows should be located 1” from the edge of the board. b. Nail or glue another piece of 1” X 6” board 22” X26” long to one side of the piece in which the holes have been drilled. c. Finish your display board with a clear varnish.

1. Open to all 4-H and FFA youth of Rapides Parish. Eggs must be produced by the exhibitor’s chickens, and can be from all breeds and mixes of chickens. 2. Exhibitor may submit one entry in each of the classes. An entry consists of three (3) eggs that should be uniform in color and size. Eggs should be clean, fresh and the shell should be natural (an egg produced within 5 days is optimum). 3. Exhibits must be entered on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm. 1. All insects displayed must have been collected within the past 12 months. 2. Exhibits shall be enclosed in a wooden case 18 inches wide by 24 inches long by 3 ½

inches deep with a glass top. 3. Each insect specimen have a collector’s label showing the place collected (town, city,

etc.), the date collected, and the name of the collector. This label shall be centered on the pin ½ inch from the bottom of the case and read from the left side of the specimen.

4. Specimen shall also be labeled as to common (if specimen has a common name). This label shall be place beneath the specimen flat on the bottom of the case with the pin through the center and read from the left side of the specimen.
