A drop kick is an AFL kicking style that is also used in other codes of football. It involves a player dropping

the ball and then kicking it when it bounces off the ground. In AFL, the drop kick was once the preferred

method of conveying the ball over long distances, however today it has been superseded by the drop

punt as a more accurate means of delivering the ball to a team mate. The drop kick is no longer used in

the game as it is considered too unpredictable. The most common style of kick, due to its superior

accuracy, is the drop punt. This is where the ball is dropped from the hands down, almost to the ground,

to be kicked so that it rotates in a reverse, end over end motion, as it travels through the air. Other

commonly used kicks are the torpedo punt (also known as the spiral, barrel, or screw punt), where the

ball is held flatter at an angle across the body, which makes the ball spin around its long axis in the air,

resulting in extra distance. The checkside punt or "banana" which is kicked across the ball on the outside

of the foot to curve the ball towards targets that are on an angle. There is also the "snap", which is

almost the same as a checkside punt with the exception that it is kicked off the inside of the foot and

curves in the opposite direction. It is also possible to kick the ball so that it bounces along the ground.

UNDER 10 Centrals Blue v Port Douglas Sunday 19th

May 2013

Sunday saw us back at the kennel playing Port Douglas. Once again the Bulldogs Blues just went up

another notch. Their effort and determination is second to none and their continued improvement in

their footballing skills is very noticeable. They are also really bonding as a team, which is what it is all

about!

Whilst I was running water I noticed a couple of things going on during the game. I am very happy to

say that our team showed great restraint and just continued to play great footy. One player in

particular came under a lot of attention from the opposition, young Brodie (who I have nicknamed

The Brod Runner)well done for just ignoring what was going on and playing the game. Other players

who deserve a rap are Dylan Lee for the massive goals he kicked, William Knight, Will Duffy and Luke

McKinnon whose link up work in either the back or the forward line was really outstanding. Trinity

Turner once again had a red hot go, while our small brigade of Noah, Harrison and Brodie were

always amongst it.

All in all the whole team did really well and their continued improvement makes Rob and myself

extremely proud of the boys. Keep up the great work and remember teamwork and training are your

keys to success. Well Done Centrals Under 10 Blues!

Mick the Manager.

UNDER 10 Centrals Red v Souths White

Well we were at home on Sunday and what a terrific day it was and the rain held off we were down a

few players so thanks to Rhys Mckinnon and Max Fryer from our U/8s who played up to help us with

numbers . After a mix up with jumpers through Wayne Dow who had left them behind and some

spare ones available the boys got out on the paddock. Thanks to Karen for going back home to getthe jumpers for us . In the 1st quarter with some great ball work and the centres getting the ball

down to our forwards Kade Mcleod got 2 behinds.

The 2nd started off about the same with Jahi Buttler getting 1 goal 1 behind while Max Fryer got 1

behind. In the 3rd Finn Churchward got 3 goals 2 behinds with Flynn Kear getting 1 goal and Peter

Menzels getting 1 behind. The 4th started a bit slow but it was Bradley Beir scorring 1 goal. Thanks

to Samantha Mulders for running water Max Churchward goal umpire and Ron Buttler umpire Also

thanks to Rod for coaching the boys as still I am unable to run around due o my Operation.

Our awards this week went to Max Mulders, Max Dow, Kade Mcleod and our 2 U8s players in Max

Fryer and Rhys Mckinnon. My coaches award went to Flynn Kear for an out standing game in all

positions. Next week we are at Griffith Park verses Saints with Peter on fruit, Flynn on jumpers and

Max Dow on Snakes. Keep up the good work boys train hard.

Go the Doggies! Your coach, Garry

UNDER 12 Centrals vs North Cairns Tigers

A home game for the pups on another blustery day with basically the whole field to play on. The

tigers had something to prove as they have gone down to the bulldogs on two previous occasions &the young pups were coming off their first loss of the season.

The tigers won the toss & elected to kick with a stiff breeze which paid dividends early as they scored

the first major. The doggies were not to be denied & started off with some strong tackling from Jai,

Jack & Ciaran. The dogs were proving dominant in the air as well with strong contested marking from

Owen, Jebb, Jack & Josh. A desperate smother from B resulted in a turnover where Josh won a free

kick & slotted home the dog’s first goal. Quarter time scores: Centrals 1.0.6  – Tigers 1.0.6

The dogs dominated the second quarter but failed to capitalise on the scoreboard. A lot of un-

discipline play resulted in just blazing away at goal. Finally a fine clearance from Zac Dight found

Mitch who kicked to the goal line where Tom picked up the crumbs & snapped a goal. Half Time

scores: Centrals 2.2.14  – Tigers 1.1.7

The dogs continued on with some untidy play early in the third term & gave away a 50m penalty

which resulted in a goal to the Tigers. Then the Tigers began to rally & scored another quick goal. It

started to look ominous for the young pups but some of the senior players started to lift & Jai was

rewarded with a strong tackle & kicked a goal. Another 50m penalty was given away but fortunately

the Tigers could only manage a point. Then some terrific team play from Jai, Smiley & Tom allowed

Mitch to swoop on the ball to just miss a much needed goal. The dogs seemed to start to lift with

some excellent shepherding from B & Dylan. Three Quarter time scores: Centrals 3.3.21  – Tigers

3.3.21

With the scores locked up the doggies seemed to show some real belief they could win this one. The

centres started to get first use of the ball. Jai cleared to Jack on the run who found Smiley who

snapped his first goal. Jai was playing well & took a solid mark to stop the Tigers run. Then Sam got a

slick handball out to Tom who missed to the left. Then Feathers, who was solid down back all day,

took a strong defensive mark & found Ciaran in the centre. He in turn kicked long to Smiley who

evaded a couple of Tiger defenders & kicked the sealing goal. A solid win at home puts the dogs back

on track. Final scores: Centrals 5.4.34  – Tigers 3.3.21.

Coaches best players were Zac Hand, Zac Dight, Jai, Cooper & Dylan. The dogs travel to Griffiths Park

next weekend to take on the Saints for a 11.00am kick off. We need all the players to be there by

10.20am.
