    Whats Happening in Zionsville?

    Caring Hands Camp

    BCSSI participated in the 3rd AnnualCaring Hands Camp, hosted by theZionsville Boys & Girls Club. The maingoal was to teach children the value ofvolunteerism and kindness. More thanfifty students attended. Each day had aspecific focus; Beautification, Hunger,Pet Care, Kids helping Kids and SeniorDay. A special thanks to BCSSI

    volunteer Allen Andrews for sharing hishistory knowledge with the campers.

    BCSSI Zionsville Satellite Office Now OpenIts official! BCSSI is excited to announce thatwe have opened a satellite office in theZionsville Town Hall located at 1100 West OakStreet.     BCSSI Spotlight

    Volunteer Lucille Carney

    Thanks to volunteer and avidtraveler Lucille Carney, BCSSIwas able to successfully launchits travel group program twoyears ago. Lucille hasrepresented the agency as a trip

    escort to Cape Code, Nashville,Biltmore Estate and MackinacIsland. She will also serve asan escort for the upcomingholiday trip to OprylandTennessee in November (tripdetails on page 10).

    Prior to serving as a volunteerescort for the BCSSI travelgroup, Lucille worked for

    Imperial Travel and was familiarwith several of the agencys

    programs and services. Ienjoy visiting new places andmeeting new people. I also loveseniors. BCSSI is a marvelous

    organization and it allowspeople to do things theyotherwise would not be able todo. It is the greatestorganization in Boone County

    stated Lucille.

    Lucille has been a BooneCounty resident since 1951 andhas four children, sevengrandchildren and nineteen

    great-grandchildren. She enjoysspending time with her family,doing craft projects, bakingcakes and of course traveling!

    Public funding of support servicesfor the elderly is on the decline.Private funding must provide anever increasing share of the costof meeting a growing level ofneeded services to the elderlypopulation of Boone County. TheFoundation has been formed to

    Egg DishSubmitted by Bonnie Kemna

    1 lb sausage (or ham or bacon)5 slices of bread4 eggs

    2 cups milk1/2 lb. Cheddar Cheese

    shredded

    Brown sausage. Tear bread into small pieces.Hand beat the 4 eggs and add 2 cups of milk. Addcheddar cheese, salt and pepper to taste. Mixeverything listed in a 9 x 13 pan and set overnight in refrigerator.Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes at 350 F. Uncover add morecheese to taste and bake for 15 minutes.

    1/2 cup salted butter2/3 cup granulated sugar2 large eggs1 tsp. vanilla extract1 cup flour

    6 Tbsp. cocoa powder2 Tbsp. canola oil1/2 tsp. espresso powder (optional)

    or coffeeConfectioners sugar for dusting

    Preheat nonstick waffle iron. Cream butter and sugar in

    medium bowl. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Add flour,cocoa powder, oil and espresso powder. Beat untilcombined. Drop batter by rounded teaspoonfuls about1 inch apart on the waffle iron. Close and cook untilcookies are puffed and cooked. 1-1.5 minutes. Use twospoons to remove from iron and transfer to cooling rack. Dust with

    Confectioners sugar. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

    Apple Crisp

    10 cups apples, peeled, coredand sliced1 cup white sugar1 Tbsp. all purpose flour1 tsp. ground cinnamon1/2 cup water

    1 cup quick-cooking oats1 cup all-purpose flour1 cup packed brown sugar1/4 tsp. baking powder1/4 tsp. baking soda1/2 cup butter, melted

    Preheat oven 350F. Place the sliced apples in a 9x13inch pan. Mix the white sugar, 1 Tbsp. flour and groundcinnamon together and sprinkle over apples. Pourwater evenly over all. Combine the oats, 1 cup flour,brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and meltedbutter. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture. Bake45 minutes. Makes 12 servings.

    2 Tbsp. light ranch dressing1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce(optional)1 cup shredded lettuce1 small tomato, seeded, chopped

    6 slices deli turkey breast2 Tbsp. finely shredded 4 cheese8 tortilla chips, divided

    Mix dressing and pepper sauce; spoon into large resealableplastic bag. Fill bag with lettuce, tomatoes, turkey andcheese; seal bag. Shake salad bag just before serving. Crush 3tortilla chips; sprinkle over salad. Serve with remaining whole chips.Makes 1 serving.
