Designed to emphasize the connection with the site as well as it’s proximity to the adjacent lake, the private and public zones of this residence are separated by large stone walls that frame the views to the West. Modern detailing and an open floor plan are balanced by more rustic materials in order to fit in with surrounding landscape and a series of stepped indoor and outdoor spaces are created inorder to ease the transition from the site entry to the lake.

Haley ResidenceWhitefish, Montana

Perched high above Whitefish Lake on a narrow, steep lot, the clients wanted a home with a somewhat clean, contemporary feel on the interior, while still using more rustic, rugged materials on the exterior. The public zones of the house full take advantage of the great views to the West, and a glassed-in stair to the South helps to flood the interior with natural light.

Sustainable Residence

Missoula, Montana

The clients, who were also the general contractors on the job, wanted their own 3 bedroom, 2 ½ Bath home to be a model for sustainability as well as a launching point for their new contracting company. A great deal of attention was paid to the detailing in order to create a house that was very simple and energy efficient while still being attractive, functional and affordable. The result was a house that is very tight, healthy and comfortable with minimal construction waste.

Cattlemen’s ClubDeer Lodge, Montana

For this commercial building of nearly 12,000 square feet, we wanted to downplay its visual impact and have it feel as if it belonged in the surrounding landscape. We used reclaimed materials and stone that was native to the site, while spreading out the footprint and using low slung porch roofs to emphasize the horizontality, while keeping the forms and details clean and simple.
