Outdoor Recreation Center and Marina

Sapphire blue Kaneohe Bay on the Windward side of Oahu is home to the Marine Corps Base Hawaii Marina and Outdoor Recreation Center. Framed by the majestic Koolau Mountains, Kaneohe Bay is one of the most breathtaking bodies of water in the islands. The Marina and Outdoor Recreation Center offers an incredible variety of activities in and around the bay. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff is available to help you put together your ultimate Kaneohe Bay adventure.

SailboatsThe Base Marina is the perfect place to rent a sailboat or learn to sail. A variety of boats are available for rent. You’ll enjoy the typically calm and peaceful waters of Kaneohe Bay with the gentle ocean breezes filling your sails. Classes are available for various skill levels.

Sailboat License Procedures / $20You must hold a license with the Kaneohe MCB Marina to rent and operate any one of our sailboats. You can obtain a license by taking one of the sailing classes offered at the

Marina or if you alrealy know how to sail you can come and take our sailing test and prove proficiency in rigging our non-keel boats. By passing the test, and proving proficiency you

will be issued a license.

Junior Basic Sailing ClassSailing lessons are available for children ages 8 to 18. Classes are taught at the Marina, and students will sail on Kaneohe Bay to the sandbar and around Coconut Island. Upon completion, students will be certified to skipper their own boats! Junior Sailing enhances water safety skills and boosts self-confidence.

Ski BoatsThe Base Marina has everything you need to test your water skiing skills! Our ski boats come equipped with skis, fuel, and all required equipment for one low hourly fee. Take a short, informative class on ski boat operation and you’re on your way.

Rental PoliciesAll sailing craft, powerboat craft, campsites, picnic pavilions and party supplies (except ice) are available for reservations. Watercraft is to be reserved only to MCB Hawaii MCCS licensed patrons.

Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance. All reservations are paid in full.Refunded cancellations can be made up to 48 hours prior to reservation date.

The MCB Hawaii Marina is undergoing some major changes. Beginning in July 2011, the grounds have become a major construction site to make way for a new Outdoor Recreation Center (OREC). This building will include the registration / reservation counters, classroom space, a retail space, office areas, rental equipment “shopping area”, a warehouse, bathroom and shower facilities. Once this building is complete, the old “Blue Building,” the existing OREC, will then become home to the engineering work shop / maintenance area. The structures presently on the south, bay-facing area of the property will be demolished, making way for a green park-like setting that will entice you to spend the afternoon at the Marina, while enjoying the majestic beauty of the Koolau mountains across the bay. The MCCS Management and Staff of the OREC have committed to remaining open and fully operational during the demolition / rebuilding phases of the construction project. Although the area will not have an appealing façade, you can rest assured that behind the mess the same high level of customer service and commitment to providing our patrons with high quality, well maintained products and safe, fun on water activities will persevere throughout the project’s life. The project began in July 2011 with demolition and will continue throughout 2011 and midway into 2012. The schedule calls for project completion during the last week of July 2012. We invite all of you to continue using our facilities, joining our activities and renting our equipment. KayaksKayaking is easy to learn, requires no prior experience, and it’s great exercise. Transport your kayak to Hale Koa Beach on base, or use it right at the Marina and paddle around scenic Coconut Island. One-person and two-person kayaks are available; no license or reservation is required.

Standup Paddleboards & Outrigger CanoesFor our paddling enthusiasts, we now offer standup paddleboards (SUP) and one, two and six person Outrigger Canoes. A short canoe handling class is required for the OC-1 & OC-2; call for class times.

Outdoor Recreation CenterCome and see what the Outdoor Recreation Center has for your outdoor recreational needs. Camping equipment, party chairs and tables, and fishing equipment are available for rent.

Camping and PavilionsEnjoy the beauty of Hawaii by camping over-night at one of our 11 ocean-view campsites, or one nestled in the woods. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and barbecue. Portable bathrooms and showers are located nearby. For those who want to spend a day at the beach, day-use pavilions are available for rent at Hale Koa, Pyramid Rock and Fort Hase beaches. Covered pavilions include a BBQ grill and picnic table(s) and are great for parties and gatherings. Reservations can be made at the Outdoor Recreation Center.

Fishing and Pontoon BoatsThe Base Marina offers a range of power-boats to accommodate nearly any nautical need or group size. Choices range from small fishing boats up to 24’ pontoon boats that hold 10 people. Enjoy a relaxing day while fishing in the sparkling waters of Kaneohe Bay, take out a pontoon boat and treat friends to a scenic cruise around Coconut Island, or enjoy some snorkeling and diving. The possibilities for adventure are endless. A short and informative class is required prior to rental. Visit the Marina to attend the class and qualify for powerboat operation (weather permitting).

Fishing ChartersEnjoy hours of deep-sea fishing onboard a 40’ fishing vessel. The professional USCG licensed captain will provide everything needed to ensure an enjoyable day at sea including tackle, bait and ice. Charter a group of up to six people and bring along lunch and beverages.

Hawaiian Water TrainingA fun and exciting way to PT! Units can participate in introductory lessons offered in stand-up paddleboard, kayak, windsurfing and outrigger canoe. Hawaiian Water Training is offered by MCCS at NO CHARGE to all Marine and Navy units aboard MCB Hawaii. It’s a fun alternative to regular unit workouts. Training NCOs and SNCOs should call the Marina for more details.

Scuba and SnorkelingOne of Hawaii’s largest full-service dive centers is located at Kaneohe Bay and Camp Smith and offers all levels of diving instruction for individuals and families. Diving is available daily, and our scuba charter service provides an array of boat dives around Oahu.
