NiCK GARCiA

Nick Garcia is the newest addition to the City of Mansfield’s Parks and Recreation department. Nick was hired as the new Athletic Coordinator at the Mansfield Activities Center in April. He will be in charge of fitness, wellness and athletics programs at the MAC, adult athletic leagues and some special events.

Nick was born and raised in Los Angeles, California where he spent half his life before moving to North Texas. Although not a born Texan, he considers himself a True Texan through and through. Nick graduated from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi with a BS in Kinesiology-Sports Management and a minor in Marketing. While at A&M Corpus Christi he spent two years working for the University’s Rec Sports Department as the Outdoor Adventure Supervisor. It was there he realized he could incorporate his passion for sports & the outdoors with his love of working with others in the field and actually make a career of it. Nick then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Recreation and Sports Management from Florida International University in Miami, Florida where he was hired on as the Facilities and Aquatics Graduate Assistant.

On a personal note, Nick recently “popped the question” to his longtime sweetheart and they are planning to marry in the fall of 2013. Together they have a black lab, Kobe, named after Nick’s favorite basketball player, Kobe Bryant, and a colorpoint shorthair cat named Chance. In his free time he enjoys playing sand volleyball, camping, and water activities.
