Westminstergolfersalsotravelduringspringbreak.In2012,ourmen’sandwomen’steamsspentaweekinNorthMyrtleBeach,S.C.,wherewecompetedagainstotherschoolsattheBarefootResort&GolfCourse.

Ascoachesweareeagertochallengemorequalifiedindividualstocontributetoourteamsandstriveforexcellencebothonthegolfcourseandintheclassroom.

WestminsterCollegemen’sgolfprogramforthe2012-13season.UnderNicholson,Westminsterhasplacedatleastinthetopthreein

thePresidents’AthleticConference(PAC)forsixoutofthelast10seasons.Athree-timePACCoachoftheYear,NicholsonguidedtheTitanstothreestraightleaguetitlesfrom2003-05,asecond-placefinishin2006andthird-placefinishesin2008and2009.

The2004-05seasonwasperhapsNicholson’sbestyearastheTitangolfcoachasWestminstercapturedfiveinvitationaltitles,includingitsthirdstraightPACchampionship.Westminsterthenearneditsfirst-everberthintheNCAADivisionIIIMen’sGolfChampionships,finishinginatiefor16thplaceina23-

teamnationalfield.NicholsonisbestknownastheformerheadfootballcoachatWestminsterfrom1991-98.

Duringthattime,heledtheTitanfootballprogramtoarecordof64-25-2(.714)ineightseasons,includingpostinganundefeatedregularseasonin1992andcapturingtheschool’srecord-sixthNAIADivisionIInationalchampionshipin1994.Priortobecomingheadcoachin1991,Nicholsonspenttheprevious22seasons(1969-90)astheTitans’defensivecoordinator.Collectively,Nichol-soncoachedinninenationalchampionshipgames.

Forhiscoachingaccomplishments,NicholsonwasvotedNAIADivisionIINationalCoachoftheYearbyAmericanFootballQuarterlyandRawling’sin1994.HeisalsoaninducteeintheTitanSportsHallofFame.

Inadditiontofootball,Nicholsonalsoservedas–atonetimeoranother–theheadcoachforswimming,tennis,wrestling,andtrackandfieldcoachduringhis42yearsatWestminster.

Nicholsonisa1964graduateofSlipperyRockUniversity,wherehewasastandoutlinemanandalsoamemberofthetrackteam.In2007,heretiredafter38yearsofserviceasafull-timefacultymemberatWestminsterCollegeasaprofessorofphysicaleducation.

RoudhelpedguideWestminstertoitsthirdPACwomen’sgolfcrownin2012andfirstsince2005.

RoudhaswonlocalandregionalESPNnationalgolfchallengesandin2010hequalifiedandcompetedinanationalchampionshipinLasVegas.HehasvolunteeredatFirstTeeinCanton,OHandhasworkedattheSchorstenMemorialGolfTournament.

A1966graduateofMountUnion,Roudwasathree-timeall-OAChonoreeintrack&fieldandaconferenceandall-Ohiochampioninthe120-metershurdles.Healsoplacedsecondinregionalsandfifthinnationalsandholdstheschool-recordtimeof14.2.

Roudearnedabachelor’sdegreeinbusinessadministrationwithminorsinEnglishandgeol-ogyfromMountUnion.

stercampus,NewCastleCountryClubhasbeenthehomecoursefortheTitanmen’sgolfteamsincethe1940s.

Thecoursewasde-signedbyA.W.Tillinghast,whoseworkincludescoursessuchasWingedFoot,Bethpage,andseveralothercoursesthathavehostedU.S.Opens,PGAChampionships,andRyderCups.

InJuly2007,SportsIllustratedandGolf.comcolumnistJohnGarrityincludedtheNewCastleCountryClubonhisTop50CoursesintheWorld.

Eachyear,West-minsterhoststwomen’sevents,oneinthefallandoneinthespring,andonewomen’seventinthespring,theMaryLouiseClelandEcklesInvitation-al,namedforthewomanwhobrokethegolfgenderbarrieratWestminsterbyplayingforthemen’steaminthelate1940s.

Thecoursewasalsothesiteofthe1995and1998NAIANortheastRegionalTournaments.Thecourseisapar-72,6,900-yardlayout.

atraditionofwinning.AlthoughtheCollegewasfoundedin1852,varsityathleticsatWestminsterdidnotbecomeprevalentuntil1884.Beginningin1926,thesportsteamsatWestminsterbecameknownasthe“Titans,”afterasportswriterforthestudentnews-paper,The Holcad,nicknamedtheresurgentbasketballteamthe“ToweringTitans”becauseofyounger,tallermenthatmadeupthestartinglineup.TheathleticsprogramatWestminsterbecamebestknownforthesuccessofitsfootballandmen’sbasketballteams.TheTitanfootballteamwonsixNAIANationalChampionshipsfrom1970-94and71%(398-157-10)ofitsgamessince1952.Themen’sbasketballteam,honoredbytheAssociated Pressasthenation’stopsmallcollegeteamin1962,wastheall-timewinningestNAIAteambeforeWestmin-sterjoinedtheNCAAin1998.
