This 5 days training course is designed to give a detailed discussion on the required engineer-ing knowledge for in-service storage tanks with emphasis on syllabus published by API (Body of Knowledge) for the said examination. It includes all the code sections referred by API 653 commit-tee to the extent required from examination point of view. This preparatory course will clarify ba-sic intentions of all code prescribed for study, how to interpret code rulings and at the end, built-up the confidence among the participants for taking decisions. The course is divided into six main ar-eas: basic storage tank design engineering i.e. API 650, in-service inspection techniques (API 653/ RP 575/ RP 577), in-service degradation mechanisms (API 571), cathodic protection (API RP 651) and lining of tank bottom (API RP 652), calculations of retirement thickness and other skills required for delivery of quality job & safe operation. The par-ticipants will receive comprehensive course notes, illustrated with practical examples, mock-exami-nations, main punch-points of the course and ex-tensive question banks to give the participants the confidence for getting certified successfully.

Course Objectives

Who should attend?

To familiarize participants with the main con-• cepts and technical content of API 653 Code and the other reference codes prescribed for Certification Examination To introduce participants to the concept of • metal degradationTo explain to participants the design funda-• mentals of storage tank (API 650)To introduce participants to evaluation of tank • integrity of shell, bottom and roof , thickness calculations for intended design conditions or revised design conditionsTo clarify the need of cathodic protection and • lining of tank bottomTo evaluate and decide remedial action for • Tank settlementTo explain to participants how to estimate re-• maining life of tank and decide inspection in-tervals. Be able to choose the appropriate in-spection tools and inspection intervalsTo carry out re-rating, remaining life and re-• tirement thickness calculationsTo score very well in API 653 examination•

Tank inspection engineers, managers, inspection personnel, plant operations engineers and others, who wish to appear for API 653 examination. All maintenance engineers, inspectors, corrosion engineers and design persons involved in integrity assessment of in-service tanks, repairs and replacement of old tanks, and preventive maintenance of storage tanks will find the course immensely beneficial.

Instructor Profi leMr. Chintamani M. Khade API 653 Authorized Tank Inspector(Cert. No. 27295), ASNT Level III (ASNT) UT, MT, RT, PT, VT, LT & ET. (Cert No 126348) and Welding Inspector (TWI) CSWIP 3.1(Cert No. 5197)Mr. Khade is a Mechanical Engineer, with more than 20 years experience in Design, Detailing, Fabrication, Field erection, Testing and certification of Storage Tanks. He has handled all types of tanks including Fixed Cone roof and Dome roof Tanks; Floating roof Tanks (Pontoon type, Double Deck Type; Internal Floating roof Tanks) ; Geodesic Roof Tanks etc. He has handled Design, Detailing, fabrication, Erection inspection, testing and certification of New Field Erected Storage tanks (API 650, API 620,). He has carried out Inspec-tion and integrity assessment of in-service tanks. Handled Repairs and Replacement of old tanks as per API

653. He has worked on Tank projects in India Middle East & Africa. As in-service tank inspector, He handled execution of NDT, Ultrasonic thickness gauging & flaw detection, vacuum box leak testing, & advanced in-spection like tank bottom scanning by Magnetic flux leakage of existing tanks. He worked as API inspector & project coordinator for Qatar Fuel Additives Co. (QAFAC)-Qatar and executed in service tank inspection as per API 653 including Acoustic emission testing of tank bottoms for corrosion assessment on 11 tanks having various services & designs. Conducted several training courses in Storage Tanks as per API 650 and API 653, NDT for Professionals South-East Asia and Gulf countries.
