JAA NEWS

Dear JA Parents,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. We look forward to another great year at JA. JAA volunteers have been busy this summer organizing the carnival, handling school supplies, sponsoring the uniform exchange, and planning events for the year. For those who are new to JA, the Jackson Academy Association (JAA) is the parent organization for our school.

Thank you to the many parents who supported JAA last year with their time and/or their financial contributions. We truly appreciate everyone who paid their membership dues, gave generously to our carnival, or donated their time as a volunteer.

All the money contributed to JAA was used to enhance our school programs. The JAA supports activities in all areas; from the preschool open house to the ACT prep classes, we strive to use your donations to enrich our students’ experiences. Here are just a few of the programs that JAA sponsored last year:

• CARE grants for teachers for class room enhancements• Performing Arts programs• Images publication• ACT prep classes• Graduation, class days, and awards day

Every preschool, elementary, junior high, and high school student benefits in some way from the services and the financial support of the JAA. In August you will receive your membership form at the Back-to-School meetings. To join the JAA simply complete the form and return it with your dues to the school. We hope you will join us in our efforts to support our children and our school.

Sincerely,

JA NEWS

JA ANNUAL FUND A SUCCESS

The Jackson Academy Development Office is pleased to

report that more than $380,000 was given to the JA Annual

Fund during the 2010-2011 school year. In fact, total

giving through tax-deductible donations came to more

than $800,000.

Thanks to the generosity of our many parents,

alumni, faculty, grandparents, and friends to our JA Annual

Fund, these gifts purchase the necessary academic

enhancements that families expect from an independent

school. From the preschool to the secondary, annual giving

impacts the JA experience.

The mission of the Development Office is to support

Jackson Academy by developing positive relationships

with all its constituents through the proper stewardship of

resources and donations provided by them to the school.

Gifts to JA provide the needed academic support

and program enhancements that have become the

hallmarks of a Jackson Academy education.

This year’s event is in honor of JA 9th grader Bryan Sumner, who (along with his parents John and Bebe) has become a shining example of perseverance amid his battle with a severe broken leg caused by a 4-wheeler accident. Bryan already has undergone 14 surgeries. We love you, Bryan!

Door prizes, refreshments, & T-shirts for the first 250 registrants will be provided.

The Sumner’s have asked that all proceeds go to Batson Children’s Hospital.

JA CODE OF GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP• Promote the ideals of good sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity. • Cheer for the Raiders, not against the competition--this includes signs. • Respect officials and their decisions. Games can’t be played without them. • Win with humility without boasting; lose with grace, without excuses or finger pointing; do both with dignity. • Demonstrate respect for op-posing fans, coaches, and team members. • Realize that a ticket is a privilege to attend an athletic competition and support Jackson Academy activities, not a license to verbally as-sault others or be generally obnoxious. • Good sportsmanship should be contagious. • Self control is a virtue. • Be an exemplary role model by positively supporting and encouraging Raider team members and their coaches. Have fun promoting our teams. • Be a fan... Not a fanatic! • Make good sportsmanship a conscious priority. It’s simply the right thing to do. • Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
