JAA BOARD 2016–17

Dear JA Parents,

We are excited to begin the 2016–17 school year!

The Jackson Academy Association (JAA) is the parent association for our outstanding school. The JAA pro-vides volunteers and financial support for educational tools in our K3-12 classrooms as well as many other benefits to our students and faculty. Focused on building fellowship and enabling growth, the JAA enhances the overall educational experience.

JAA volunteers have been busy this summer planning for the upcoming school year. Some events to highlight are our Uniform Exchange on July 23 in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center; A Blue & White Night, our annual party for our parents and teachers, on August 13 at The South Warehouse; and our JA Fall Carnival on October 18. In addition, the JAA supports activities in all areas including Preschool, Lower, Middle, and Upper School including student receptions, faculty appreciation activities, school supplies, Box Tops for Education, Parents in Prayer, JA Cares for families in need, and much more. Details on all JAA events and programs are available in the JAA section of the JA website at www.jacksonacademy.org/JAA.

A huge thank you to all of our JA parents for your time, energy, and financial support. Our parents are always so willing to “do whatever it takes” to get the job done. Because of your support, the JAA has been able to make a $300,000 commitment towards the Learning Commons project that will be accessible to our students this school year.

All JA parents are members of the JAA. Please complete our online volunteer form to indicate in which areas you would like to participate. The form can be accessed online at www.jacksonacademy.org/JAA (click on volunteer) to get plugged in!

We are looking forward to a great school year!

All for One,

Mary Carolyn WilliamsJAA President 2016–17

• Promote the ideals of good sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity. • Cheer for the Raiders, not against the competition—this includes

signs. • Respect officials and their decisions. Games can’t be played without

them. • Win with humility without boasting; lose with grace, without excuses

or finger pointing; do both with dignity. • Demonstrate respect for opposing fans, coaches, and team members. • Realize that a ticket is a privilege to attend an athletic competition

and support Jackson Academy activities, not a license to verbally assault others or be generally obnoxious.

• Good sportsmanship should be contagious. • Self control is a virtue. • Be an exemplary role model by positively supporting and encourag-

ing Raider team members and their coaches. Have fun promoting our teams.

• Be a fan...not a fanatic! • Make good sportsmanship a conscious priority. It’s simply the right

thing to do. • Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

The fall musical will be 42nd Street offered October 15–17. Based on the novel by Bradford Ropes and featuring music by Harry Warren, 42nd Street tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a talented young performer with stars in her eyes who gets her big break on Broadway. All performances will be held in the JA PAC Auditorium. • Saturday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. • Sunday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m. • Monday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. The fall competition one-act will be Tammy: A Coming of Age Story About a Girl Who is Part T-Rex by Julia Weiss. There will be four opportunities to see the performances. JA will participate in two “double feature” productions with Jackson Prep. • Double Feature: Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m. (JA PAC Auditorium) • Double Feature: Thursday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m. (Jackson Prep CAL Auditorium) • NHSDF Competition: Friday or Saturday, December 2–3 (Time TBA) (Starkville) • School-day Matinée: Monday, December 5 With clever nods to 1990’s culture, Tammy tells the story of the average middle school student who feels like she doesn’t quite fit in. In this poignant dark comedy, we are reminded that being different is not easy—especially when your lunch is raw meat, and you get muzzled every time you roar in math class.
