Bay Chamber Concerts

Welcome to the completion of our 50th year celebration at Bay Chamber Concerts. 2011 offers some of our most exciting programs ever – and all because of you. Over the years, we have learned how discerning you are. You are also willing to tell us what you like! So this summer in particular, we have put together many programs you asked for.

It all begins with opening night. One of you told us about a magnificent concert you heard in Europe featuring violinist Shmuel Ashkenasi and pianist Menahem Pressler. Though both have performed at Bay Chamber Concerts, they have never done so together. How fortunate that we could convince them to open our season (on the first FRIDAY in July).

We also heard how much you liked the third venue we added last year. We are still offering many popular programs in the Rockport Opera House and the Strand Theatre. But this summer we are devoting three evenings to intimate programs at the Farnsworth Art Museum’s Wyeth Center. The two-unique-concert format will allow you to choose between one hour long concert or both concerts (with time for dinner in between).

The St. Lawrence String Quartet will be back and this year after a season of touring to the four corners of the world. We are also thrilled to present Time for Three in a debut performance. You asked for this ground-breaking, category-shattering trio that will perform both in their own concert and in a program with the popular Curtis on Tour group. We will also offer other programs you requested – Chaplin’s film “The Kid” with the original film score played live; the Louisiana Repertory Jazz Ensemble; and of course, our First Chair All Star concerts to end the season.

We strongly encourage you to consider a Passport to all the concerts (at a very substantial savings) or a subscription. Both have liberal exchange policies and an opportunity to get the best seats in the house! And don’t forget our Gala – always a fun way to support Bay Chamber Community Music School. I look forward to seeing you at the concerts.

HOLIDAY SHOPPERS on Water Street in l932had a brand new store to shop! That year, the S.S.Kresge five and dime store opened in a modernArt Deco building unique in downtown Augusta. The new building replaced an Italianate blockbuilding that once housed the Dirigo BusinessSchool, which operated at various sites in Augustafrom 1867 to 2003. The new store featured 4,500square feet of floor space, mahogany counters, and a modern soda fountain. Three large displaywindows with pink granite bases and ornate cop-per moldings were a striking feature of the façade. In 1978, Richard Cummings purchased the build-ing and moved his Hallmark Store, named for hisdaughter Stacy, to the site. In 2007 the façade andits decorative copper were restored to their ArtDeco flair.

GalaThe St. Lawrence un-Strung

Bay Chamber’s Gala Benefit for Education will take place in the elegant setting of Pascal Hall (the former Élan Fine Arts Gallery) on Saturday evening, August 13.

The Gala will feature:• An intimate evening with the world renowned St. Lawrence String Quartet like

you’ve never seen them before!• Delectable cuisine by Swan’s Way Catering• Private opening of a special exhibition showcasing works by Bay Chamber

affiliated artists• Silent auction of one-of-a-kind musical opportunities.

$250/person. Please contact the Development Office at (207) 236-2823. Tickets may also be purchased using the enclosed order form. $175 of the purchased price of each Gala ticket is a tax deductible donation to the Bay Chamber Community Music School.

The Founders Wall

This fundraiser provides and exciting opportunity to join an exclusive group of patrons permanently acknowledged for their generosity in supporting the Bay Chamber mission to transform lives through music.

A striking, three-dimensional work will be created by capturing donor signatures. The artistic design will incorporate this individual recognition at the $10,000 Founder, $5,000 Associate, and $1,000 Partner categories. These artistic elements will be differentiated by donor level, and any support is welcome. All contributions will be included on The Wall in list form.

The Founders Wall – Our Signature Piece – will be prominently displayed in the Bay Chamber box office in Rockport Village.

For more information please contact the Development Office at (207) 236-2823.
