National FORUM For Black Public Administrators 2011 Conference

The National Forum Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) is one of the

nation¹s premier professional membership organizations. Our mission is

to promote, strengthen and expand the roles of African Americans in all

aspects of public ser vice by assisting in the development of effective

public adminstrators. Founded by the late Mayor, Harold Washington, the

Chicago Chapter represents one of the many outstanding legacies of

Mayor Washington, “Promoting Excellence and High Standards” in public

ser vice.

NFBPA membership has grown to include managers and executives in

vir tually all disciplines represented in federal, state, county and municipal

governments, as well as corporate executives from the private sector.

administrators for future

senior management

oppor tunities. The

Chicago Chapter is one

of more than for ty

chapters that suppor ts the growth of the national organization located in

Washington, D.C . NFBPA’s members represent more than 350

jurisdictions in 37 states and collectively manage more than $60 billion

annually in public sector spending.

In recognition of our founding members, past presidents, board members and Marks of Excellence Award recipients, we have established the Legacy Committee for the 2011 Conference. The Legacy Committee will assist in the establishment of the conference agenda and objectives for our Silver Anniversary.

Future Focus

Legacy Committee

In 2008, the National Board of Directors established the age range for Future Focus Leaders to be 21-40 years old. Since that time, we have seen an increase in the participation of young professionals and students in NFBPA’s committees and organizational initiatives. NFBPA wants to ensure that the voices of emerging leaders are heard.

Legacy and Future Focus are two of NFBPA's very important committees that understands the past and the challenges of the 21st century.

significance for the Chicago

Chapter; it marks the 25th

Anniversary of the founding of

the Chicago Chapter and sixteen

other Chapters from across the

country. This historic event will

be a homecoming celebration for

all NFBPA members and those

who provided the foundation for

this outstanding organization. The

Chapter plans to make this Silver

Anniversary a golden experience

for all who will attend.

The 2011 FORUM and the Chapter’s 25th Anniversar y

will be held April 15-20, 2011. The Sheraton Chicago

Hotel and Towers has been selected as the FORUM’s

conference headquar ters. The 2011 National

Conference extends for a period of 5 days with an

agenda of informative workshops, exhibits and

networking receptions. The City of Chicago expects

to host as many as 3,000 public administrators from

across the United States and abroad.

2011 OPENING RECEPTION

$35,000The 25th Anniversary Opening Reception will be held Sunday evening of the conference and is the official welcome reception to Chicago and the 2011 National Conference. This historic occasion will be celebrated by NFBPA members from across the nation and abroad. There is no place like Chicago and we look forward to making this Silver Anniversary a golden experience for all who will attend.

2011 EARLY BIRD RECEPTION

$25,000The 25th Anniversary Early Bird Reception will be held Saturday evening of the conference. The Reception is the initial networking opportunity for all conference attendees. It’s also a homecoming for NFBPA members as they mingle with friends of the past, present and future.

2010 EDUCATIONAL FUND GOLF TOURNAMENT

$20,000This event is the primary support for the Chapter’s Education and Professional Development Fund. The fund provides scholarships to students seeking careers in public administration, and over the past seven years, the Chapter has awarded over ninety scholarships to students attending institutions of higher education throughout the country.

2010 HOLIDAY INITIATIVE

$20,000The Chicago Chapter annually selects 3 to 4 families in need, where grandmothers are raising their grandchildren. Chapter members then present gifts to the families in celebration of the holidays. In addition to providing gifts for each and every member of the family, the Chapter provides food gift certificates to help make Christmas dinner even more special. It’s giving something back in its purest form.

CONFERENCE TRANSPORTATION

$20,000The transportation component of the conference is a vital part of a successful conference. The coordination of moving more than 2,500 attendees from one location to another is extremely important. This conference element offers a company a number of exposure opportunities over a 5 day period.

2011 HOST CHAPTER EVENT

$35,000 The “25th Anniversary Host Chapter Event” will be held Monday night of the Conference. The 2011 Host Chapter Event holds special significance as we will celebrate the Chapter's Silver Anniversary. The last time the conference was held in Chicago was 1986 (25 years ago). We will be joined by 16 other Chapters who will also celebrate their 25th Anniversary. It will be an unforgettable experience.

2010 MARKS OF EXCELLENCE AWARDS CO- SPONSOR

$30,000The Marks Of Excellence Award is bestowed on an African American male and an African American female public administrator who has achieved extraordinary success in their field of public management. These prestigious awards are one of NFBPA’s highest honors and are presented annually during the Marks of Excellence Award Celebration.
