Let us all join hands in welcoming AGP PHILIPPINES HOLDINGS I, INC.., the new owners which acquired the entire shareholdings of DMCI in AG&P.

This company was formed by a syndicate of investors led by Mr. Joseph Sigelman, the co-founder and co-CEO of PetroTiger Ltd., the largest Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) company in South America with vast experience in the fields of heavy crude and complex gas.

The syndicate of investors includes mainly the following: Kuwait China Investment Company (KCIC), Edgardo Reyes, Knut Hammardkjolf, and Augusto Gan.

These investors plan to provide and further add significant strategic value to AG&P with the intention of substantially growing the business, more particularly its market reach and operational capabilities.

We are very excited about our new ownership structure as it will allow us to further strengthen our already strong infrastructure and management team. We will become even better partners for our clients and other stakeholders.

We have planned for an aggressive investment schedule that will see us with state-of-the-art equipment and capabilities. With strong shareholders support and a robust market, we expect a long term profitability and viability of AG&P.

AG&P successfully finished the supply and fabrication of Steel Lining/Penstocks for the Ambuklao & Binga Rehabilitation project last November 18, 2010, 10 days ahead of schedule.

McConnell Dowell Philippines Inc. awarded the project to AG&P on August 11, 2010. The project included the procurement of pressure vessel grade materials to ASTM A516 and fabrication of penstock liners inclusive of elbows and transition pieces of varying diameter in accordance with the requirements of ASME VIII & IX, NDT, and sandblasting & painting.

Though the client issued additional work and variation orders, the Project Management Team led by Project Manager Modesta R. Calinao delivered the 250 tonne package earlier than the scheduled November 29. The team worked in double shifts and used Heavy Forming, Honiron Annex, and Main Fabrication Shops to meet the revised schedule. The quality of work completed, with no major problems encountered, also contributed to the success of this project.

Adrian Bowskill, Project Manager, and Bruno Tirrizzi, Construction Manager of McConnel Dowell Philippines Inc. recognized AG&P’s excellent and professional completion of the project. “It is a credit to the entire AG&P team to have completed this supply package so quickly and with such professionalism,” Bowskill and Tirrizzi remarked.

Members of the AG&P Senior Management Team also expressed their gratitude for this successful project. VP for Commercial and Yard Systems & Controls Winefreda O. Madarang described this project as a “small project, yet source of a huge sense of pride.”

President and CEO Angelito D. Bermudo also congratulated the Project Management Team. “In the future, I want to see more women-led projects,” he said.

Safety Tips CornerBy: Efren V. DomingoFormer HSES Manager Prepare your Own

Storm Survival KitIt is indeed the time of the year when

rains and storms become an ordinary part of the day or night. Torn boulevards, ruptured bridges, and destroyed houses turn to be a common sight. In times like this, preparedness somehow eases, if not totally avoids, the raging winds and violent storms. Having a storm survival kit doesn’t sound too exaggerated when lives, as against the ferocious whip of fate, are at stake. When rescue teams or any emergency help fail to reach you at your area, a survival kit may become your savior during those trying times. Listed below are the MUST-HAVES in your storm survival kit.

Bottled water. Bring enough clean drinking water to last you and your family for at least three days. People can survive without food, but not without water.

Food. Don’t stock up on salty food items as these will require you to drink more water. Look for food that can be eaten with minimal preparation or without having to cook them.

First aid kit. This should contain the following, Band-Aids, alcohol, antibiotics, antacids, anti-allergy meds, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, and other prescription drugs that you may need.

A Swiss Army knife. This is a handy tool for anyone who’s not in the comfort of his home. With this, you don’t have to bring a separate knife, can opener, bottle opener, screwdriver, and a pair of scissors.

Clothes. Getting wet in the rain will require you to change your clothes or else you’ll get sick. Make it a point to bring thermal wear, including socks, to keep you warm during the storm.

Flashlight and batteries. This will help you get around during the night, especially since the powers out. Try bringing candles and waterproof matches too, just in case you run out of batteries.

Toiletries. This is particularly important for women and children. Aside from the usual soap, toothpaste and tissue paper, bring a lot of sanitary napkins and diapers.

Umbrella. If you’re stuck in your rooftop or any open ground, this will shield you from the rain.

A good harvest of workers was recognized “ON THE SPOT” by Paul Baylot, FW-HSSE Manager for wearing complete PPE’s complying with the 100% FALL PROTECTION POLICY WHILE WORKING AT HEIGHTS. Each of them received Cell phone load card worth Php300.00 and “GET SMART” stickers. Witnessed by AG&P HSES MANAGER - Efren V. Domingo & Safety Engrs. - Enrico Magadia & Ulyses Dapul.

CATCHING PEOPLE DOING THINGS RIGHT

“HSES is everybody’s responsibility. Let’s continue to

care (malasakit) for one another and save lives and properties.”

Fully-charged mobile phone. It’s a very useful tool in asking for help from the media and the authorities, although network problems are expected during typhoons.

Whistle. This is effective in calling attention to yourself, making it easier for rescuers to find you. If you don’t have one, just bring anything that can create a lot of noise.

Battery-powered radio. Listening to the news will give you updates about the rescue operations, and will help you find safe ground. Make sure that you bring a lot of batteries, though.

Cash. You’ll never know when you’ll get access to a commercial establishment, so it’s best to keep a few bucks with you.

Training & Development CornerBy: Ma. Astrud J. ArboledaFormer Training & Development Manager AG&P O.N.E:

Orientation of New Employees

I have always advocated for the phrase that states “Things are not always what they seem.” In any circumstance this euphemism is true. Let us put this in the corporate context. AG&P Management together with the HR Team headed by Christopher Cabildo, HR Head has launched AG&P ONE (Orientation for New Employees). This endeavor aims to properly orient and equip the newly hired employees of the company in all the Standard Operating Procedures and Policies of the company. ONE (Orientation for New Employees) is one of the improvements that HR Dept has adopted to pave the way for excellence in employee services. ONE has certified AG&P facilitators who went through a thorough training and motivation to be able to impart the modules they have designed in their respective departments. It is the belief of these facilitators that it is one thing to know your subject matter and another thing to deliver and convey the message that would be understood by the audience. It is stated in AG&P Quality Policy that the company aims “To promote the development of their greatest resource, their people, by providing the opportunity and appropriate training to enhance individual professional talents and skills; recognizing and rewarding meritorious achievements; and treating them with fairness and dignity.” In line with this, the Management supports ONE, embracing its objective with utmost regard. Congratulations to those who have one way or the other helped out in this endeavor. Keep up the good work and more power!

For the first time in AG&P history, the whole AG&P community celebrated Christmas the Western, Country style during the 2010 Christmas Party with the theme “Koboy Pinoy” held last December 16, 2010 at the company covered court.

Members of the Senior Management Team, managers, and workers joined the yearend Thanksgiving mass with Fr. Roy Macatangay as the main celebrant. This marked as the kick-off to the first-ever theme-based Christmas party of AG&P. After the mass, President Angelito D. Bermudo rendered his Christmas messages. He commended the year’s event committee for organizing an exceptional celebration with realistic westernized ambiance.

Mr. Bermudo expressed his gratitude for the year’s gift of love, friendship, hope, and opportunity for the AG&P people. Above all, he thanked the workers for the safe operation for 2010. “Salamat sa handog ng ligtas na operasyon,” he remarked.

Immediately after the mass and the President’s message, BHFY Multipurpose Cooperative served a special lunch and distributed Christmas gift packages from AG&P to the workers.

The “Koboy Pinoy” program proper officially started at 12:00 p.m., opened with the singing of Christmas carols led by Mr. Leo O. Fortugaleza, TDD Manager, who also served as the master of the ceremony. The employees warmly participated in the activity.

Right after, Mr. Roberto S. Paglinawan, AG&P VP for Operations, welcomed the members of the Foster Wheeler group, managers, and all workers to the event. He encouraged the workers to be cowboys in the real sense of the word – loyal, courteous, and strong. “Let us show the world that AG&P employees exemplify strength and loyalty in serving the company,” he said.

Five groups with 15 to 20 participants each presented song and dance cowboy production numbers to entertain the crowd. The groupings are as follows: Mustang (PAD, YBSD/Carpentry, TDD, OMD, Finance, Executive, Purchasing, AG&PFI, and Bay Link), Palomino (PMO/PMO-CES,

Other groups are Oldenburg (Material Handling, Scaffolding, Surveyor, PEM-Mechanical & Electrical, QA/QC, NDT, and WTTC), and Thoroughbred (RD Ramos, HPCI, EMME Security, ARKAY, ASSISTCO, and BHFY MPC). All these groups received 5,000.00 Php from the management for their exemplary performances.

Mr. Andy Bais, an independent film actor and singer, graced the occasion and performed several song numbers that further thrilled the audience. AG&P’s own talents, Construction Manager Vic Araoarao, Fatima Abrenica of Production Shop Department, and Dahlia Alojado of Overseas Manpower Division, also stood out as they performed along with Mr. Bais. The AG&P Choir and Band Aid also rendered entertainment numbers.

At least 70 employees went home with raffle prizes such as home appliances, gift certificates, and baskets of groceries from AG&P, BP and Foster Wheeler, Bay Link, and other suppliers. Major prizes from BP/FW clients include gas range, and two refrigerators. Mr. Eduardo Aguado, a skilled worker, proved to be the luckiest as he won the grand raffle prize, a set of 32” LCD television and a home theater, also sponsored by BP/FW.

Furthermore, the Senior Management Team selected Manny Dalangin of PEM Department and Cherry Mae Malantic of AG&PFI as the best-dressed cowboys for the event. Dalangin and Malantic received 2,500.00 Php each as cash prizes.

The support and cooperation of all workers added to the success of the event. “On behalf of the committee, I thank you for you wholehearted support and cooperation to all the activities that were incorporated in our celebration of Christ’s birth last year. I could not have imagined how things would have been without you by our side,” said Mr. Juan U. Magboo, Christmas Celebration 2010 Committee Chairman.

Medical & Health UpdatesBy: Dr. Michael L. Cayetano, MD, DPCOM AG&P Company Physician

Tips from the BIGGEST LOSERMy 2010 new year’s resolution is to lose weight. It was difficult but I have to do it to set an example to all AG&P employees and for myself and my family, of course. It is very uncomfortable asking applicants to lose some excess pounds while they are looking at their doctor who is OBESE Class II. Losing weight is very depressing that I was able to start it only in February 2010. My weight used to surpass the limit of our weighing scale, 260 lbs. With the help, understanding and love of my wife, Alelie, I was able to do it. I religiously played basketball two to three hours a day, four hours in Bolo Dorm flouting ties with rice, pancit, and the rest of the carbs. I mortgaged a cheap MTB so that I can exercise on weekends in our town biking 10-20kms/trip. In three months, I lost 40 lbs and I now weigh 215lbs., still overweight but I guess I am successful. I am not craving for rice or any desserts, and I am maintaining what I am eating and my passions. The weight loss tips below can help you understand the truths and myths about weight loss. If you are willing to make the effort and get proper weight loss help and tips then you are most likely to succeed in your weight loss efforts. GOODLUCK!

#1. When we gain weight we blame our metabolism genes, water, thyroid etc.Nobody can say with absolute certainty what causes our weight to increase beyond the normal. But whatever the cause - increased caloric intake, inadequate nutritional care, poor quality food, food intolerance, decreased tolerance, the obesity gene, increased fat consumption, physical inactivity, carbohydrate consumption, repetitive weight loss diets, hormonal problems or psychological reasons-, the most important point is one: We wouldn’t get fat or we would be less fat if we choose our food carefully, consume less and exercise more.#2. Some people weigh more because they have a heavier frame. The differences between a heavier and a lighter frame are a few hundred grams, not kilograms, like some people imagine. Simply, those who have heavier frames have room to weigh more than those with lighter frames.#3. All weight loss diets can have a positive effect if you follow them strictly. There are weight loss diets that cannot bring the desired results even when we follow them properly. This may be so due to these reasons. First, diets are not personalized. Second, we may follow them when in a bad psychological situation. Third, these diets do not fit easily in our lifestyle. #4. When I follow the same weight loss diet with my wife, we can both lose the same number of kilos.A woman loses weight harder than a man, while men can lose more pounds in the same period than women. Someone living in cold climates may lose weight more easily than someone living in warm climates, while a young person can lose weight more easily than older people. Those who have many unnecessary pounds and those who have

not done a weight loss diet can lose the first pounds faster than those with fewer unnecessary kilos or veterans of weight loss diets. #5. Criterion of good weight loss diet is losing weight.A good diet is one that is not unilateral or extreme, it fits in our lifestyle perfectly, helps us to lose weight by reducing the losses from the necessary (muscles) and increasing the losses from the unnecessary (fat) and most importantly when we end the diet we have learned how to feed properly, so that in future we do not gain back the lost pounds.#6. A weight loss diet is only valid for a certain period of time.Weight loss diets may last hours, days, weeks, months or years. Diets with timetables almost always fail and when they do not fail their positive effects are temporary. That is why the adoption of proper nutrition is a permanent way to have a normal weight and not a long lasting diet. You can follow a proper diet forever while you can follow a weight loss diet for a certain period of time (depending on your strengths and willingness).#7. It is not important how to reduce calories as long as you reduce them. The reduction of calories should be done by limiting foods that contain less useful components, and especially those containing sugar and a lot of calories from fat. If you cut calories from all types of food this would deprive from your body nutrients necessary for its normal operation and nutrients that can help your body accelerate fat loss.#8. The calories do not play a role in a weight loss diet. The body weight decreases when the energy it gets (calories) is less than what it spends (burn). When you eat fewer calories than you need, you lose weight, because the body

covers the difference between what we need and what we are resorting to the stocks. This is the only reason that the caloric intake plays a major role in an attempt to lose weight, but this does not mean that weight lose depends solely on the calories.#9. If you do not significantly reduce the calorie intake you will not lose weight. The low-calorie diets (less than 1,200 a day) are dangerous because the body begins to burn more muscle tissue than fat. When the daily deficit overcomes 1.200-1.500 calories you may lose half a kilo of body protein (muscle) and more than one to two pounds of water (risk of dehydration). #10. There is a weight loss diet in which you can lose one pound of fat a day .If you calculate that the average person to maintain normal weight needs 2.000-2.500 calories a day, you can understand that, under normal circumstances, you cannot create a calorie deficit that will lead to a daily loss of a pound of fat. Even with increased physical activity, losing weight from fat cannot exceed a certain limit, and usually, depending on calorie intake and physical activity, 1% per week.**More weight loss tips in the next issue.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Reflexology offers Wellness 2010Two verses of different epoch and

proclivity converse consistently with the mission-vision of the Reflexology Seminar recently conducted by AG&P Company of Manila Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with TESDA and CESCO portend ‘healing’ as a path to life, means of livelihood and way of living through ROW-2010. Reflexology Offers Wellness- 2010 is a project attended by 27 candidates from four host barangays, San Roque, Sto Niño, Manghinao Proper and San Andres, of AG&PFI and CESCO. TESDA announced the scarcity of Reflexologists in the second district of Batangas saying that the authority already established networks of professional healers in District 1, 3 and 4. The need to sponsor and train potential reflexologists in the 2nd district is a must considering that the career is a good livelihood potential for the physically, sensitively, and piously disabled barangay folks. While it is true that the other three districts have fully established networks of reflexologists and have also professionalized the trade by training TRAINERS to propagate the craft, Batangas D2 remained untouched in irony because TESDA provincial office resides here. TESDA accepted AG&PFI’s invitation to a tripartite venture with CESCO in ROW-2010 through a Memorandum of Understanding signed a day before the start of classes. The seminar was facilitated by Dr. Alvin Oriondo from Nasgubu, belonging to district 1 of Batangas. He was accommodated at AG&P Bolo Dormitory during the entire training. Dr Oriondo teaches various courses and has the authority to certify graduates supported by TESDA. He is TESDA’s lead trainer for Reflexology in the entire province and also the head trainer for Culinary, Arts, Bartending, Barrista, Ganging, Cosmetology, Massage, Care giving and the like. Having achieved distinctions in his exceptional ability to coach he was assigned to handle AG&PFI’s corporate

social related projects starting with ROW-2010. On the third training day, Mr. Renato M. Alarcon, Executive Director of AG&PFI and also chairman of the Reflexology Seminar awarded the first Scrub Suit uniform to the 27 trainees. He was assisted by CESCO Head Nurse and project coordinator, Rafael Jose Montaño and AG&P Human Resources Head, Christopher Cabildo who in succession gave the ‘challenge’ speech. The 5-day training, on its conclusion, marked the first TESDA accredited, first Second district team of Reflexologists and first recognized zone therapists in the second district of Batangas. This can probably be perceived as the most significant training AG&PFI and CESCO have achieved this year.

REFLEXOLOGY PRACTITIONERS EARN THEIR FIRST P 3,000.00

Fifty seven (57) AG&P employees, managers, and staff volunteered to become patients to the new graduates of AG&PFI-CESCO Reflexology Offers Wellness - “ROW-2010” project pursuing a traditional ‘Paakyat pasalta’ (first income) after the graduation rites held June 11, 2010. A day after graduation, five top students were invited by Head Nurse Rafael Jose Montaño to join CESCO in Caltex Depot and former refinery in San Pascual, Batangas to knead strained muscles and focal joints of Golfers during the Caltex-Chevron Texaco Invitational Golf Challenge. Shifts were

orderly assembled by Mr. Montano so he can easily introduce AG&PFI graduates to the players. Therapy was given to each golfer during lull game periods, some by hole and others, during flight rests. A reflexologist earned from P700.00 to P1,000.00 during the golf tournament. Adding income from other sources like house-to-house appointments and friends referrals, reports indicated that each graduate earned P3,000.00 each on the average for the first three (3) days after graduation.

Mr. Renato M. Alarcon, AG&PFI Executive Director, upon hearing of the success through results, immediately requested for a reunion meeting which was held June 16, 2010. The graduates were introduced as DOCTORS of REFLEXOLOGY during the meeting and were lauded for the achievements they attained. The surprising success of the Reflexology seminar earned praises from the communities in Bauan, Batangas and TESDA, so much so, that philanthropists started coming in to contribute small amounts for the preparation of the next batches of ROW training. Reflexology is a pseudoscience and an alternative medicine, complementary, or integrated medicine method of treatment involving the physical act of applying pressure to the feet and hand with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. Two hundred five (205) residents of San Roque, San Andres, and Sto. Niño went home richer not with money but with food to eat and clothes to wear for Christmas.

The “Pamaskong Handog ng AG&P at AG&PFI sa Mamamayan” project launched and spearheaded by AG&PFI since 2008 has once again brought a brighter Christmas to the barangay residents as bags of goods and clothes were distributed, December 16, 2010 at AG&P PAD Applicants’ Lounge.

AG&P President & CEO Angelito D. Bermudo led the gift giving ceremony which began at 7:30 a.m. The other members of the Senior Management Team and the managers also participated in giving bags of goods containing three kilos of rice, canned goods, Noche Buena packages, and other various commodities.

All donated clothes, shoes, bags, and toys were arranged like an “ukay-ukay” in the PAD Applicants’ Lounge where recipients freely chose the items they would want to take home for their families.

This year’s Pamaskong Handog entailed a one-month continuous solicitation of gifts, both in cash and in kind. The project coordinators placed Christmas boxes in all offices and shops for easier collection of solicited gifts. Most AG&P managers and supervisors provided donations in the form of cash, which were used to purchase the Christmas packages.

“I am truly overwhelmed with the untiring support of the whole AG&P community for this project. What we shared shall be returned to us in ten folds,” said AG&PFI Executive Director Renato M. Alarcon. He spearheaded this project along with AG&P Community Relations Manager Ben S. Aclan and AG&PFI Community Service Coordinator Rosulo P. Carag.

“AG&PFI shall strive to continue this charitable work in the coming years,” Mr. Alarcon finally managed to end his statement.

Philippine Red Cross—Batangas Chapter recently awarded a Certificate of

Appreciation to AG&P last July 27, 2010 at Malvar Hall, Hotel Ponte Fino, during the Blood Donors’ Recognition Ceremony. AG&P through its foundation arm has provided at least 100 safe blood bags to PRC-Batangas Chapter after conducting Blood Letting among its workers in BHFY. It was recognized for its tremendous participation in the promotion of blood services. AG&P was among the 13 awardees of the certificate of appreciation presented by Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto, Batangas Governor; Ms. Gwendolyn Pang, RN, PRC Secretary General; Dr. Juanito Taleon, CHD-IV Director; Hon. Vilma Abaya-Dimacuha, Batangas City Mayor; Atty. Vicente Mayo, Board of Directors Chairman; and Ronald Generoso, PRC-Batangas Chapter Administrator, among others. Aside from the certificate of appreciation, among the awards given were merit certificates, merit diplomas, chapter certificates of appreciation, chapter certificates of recognition, scroll of honor, and Blood Gallooner’s pins and certificates.

Previously hailed as the youngest supervisor and now the youngest manager of the company, Benard E. Ilagan recently passed the Certified Internal Auditor

(CIA) Licensure Examination. He is now regarded as the first and only CIA of the company. Ilagan successfully earned the CIA certification from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) after passing the three-day licensure exam held last May 26 to 28, 2010 at MISNet Inc., Antel Corporate 2000 Centre, Makati City. The exam is through the computer-based testing (CBT) of Pearson VUE, a computer-based testing provider for certification and licensure exams.

AG&P braves its first and only Certified Internal Auditor After being certified, Ilagan attended the IIA’s Seminar on Internal Audit Tools and Techniques held last July 9-10 and 16-17 at IIA-Philippines Training Center in Makati. “I am grateful for being allowed by the management to attend this seminar which furthered my internal auditing knowledge and skills. The topics discussed in the seminar are indeed critical especially that I am in the stage of establishing the procedures and program of the Internal Audit Department,” he said. At a young age of 25, Ilagan has found a swift way rising through the ranks with his knowledge and leadership skills. His educational attainment proved to be a significant factor, as he graduated with honors from De La Salle-Lipa, finishing Bachelor of Science

Major in Accountancy last March 2006. After a year, he passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Licensure

Examination and started his career as an Accounting Instructor at Batangas State University then at De La Salle Lipa. He decided to pursue a career at AG&P last 2007 as a Management Accounting Supervisor and Executive Assistant to the Financial Controller until his promotion last June 2010 as Internal Audit & Budget Deputy Manager.

“I draw inspiration from my mentors: MPM, WOM, MIC, OUT, RBL, and VMS. I’ll strive to serve AG&P at my best while living to the words Strive for Excellence and Always Challenge Yourself which WOM and MPM have taught me,” he managed to end his statement.

“The person who gets the

farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far

from the shore.”

AG&P joins Arbor Day Celebration

Arbor Day in the Philippines has been institutionalized to be observed every June 25 throughout the nation by planting trees and ornamental plants and other forms of relevant activities. The necessity to promote a healthier ecosystem for the people through the rehabilitation and regreening of the environment was stressed in Proclamation No. 643 that amended Proclamation No. 396 of June 2, 2003. Proclamation No. 396 enjoined the “active participation of all government agencies, including government-owned and controlled corporations, private sector, schools, civil society groups and the citizenry in tree planting activity and declaring June 25, 2003 as Philippine Arbor Day. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbor_Day) As part of the team’s annual work activity, the Multipartite Monitoring Team (MMT) consisting of representatives from AG&P, BHPI, DENR-Environmental

Management Bureau (DENR-EMB), Provincial Environment & Natural Resources Office (PENRO), City Environment & Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Provincial Government Environment & NaturalResources Office (PG-ENRO), Bauan Medical Society, and AG&PFI conducted tree planting last June 24, 2010 in celebration of Arbor Day. Forty three (43) mahogany seedlings were planted along the Tabok River. Several plants that had been washed out by the typhoon were also replaced during the event. To date, AG&P has planted 4,435 trees in various locations which are being maintained and monitored to ensure survival. Meanwhile, AG&P garnered a “Very Good” rating for its plant & yard operation’s environmental, health & safety and social aspects during the 2nd Quarter 2010 MMT Monitoring and Audit last July 22.
