have st ruggled to keep the populat ion heal th and fed. More
than 1.3 mi l l ion people l i ve in camps
and are vulnerable to hurr icanes, storms and diseases. Recent
ly an outbreak of cholera has claimed
more t han 600 l i ves and infected m ore t han 7,000 people.
For tunat ely Hai t i w as spared a di rect
st r ike by Hurr icane Tomas in November however the w est of t
he c i ty has suf fered heavy f looding,
landsl ides, further structural destruct ion and loss of crops.
Increasing cases of cholera with
Salmonel la are being seen fol lowing the rains.
