Sunday’s Gospel
John 10:1-10
So Jesus said again, “Amen, amen,
I say to you, I am the gate for the
sheep. All who came before me
are thieves and robbers, but the
sheep did not listen to them. I am
the gate. Whoever enters through
me will be saved, and will come in
and go out and find pasture.

Dear Parents,
Next week we will graduate 40 wonderful young people from our school. They
are truly an amazing group who love and care for each other. I want to share a
little story about them.
At the end of last year, one of their classmates who had only been at Holy Cross
for one year had to move to Florida due to a job transfer. Her father called me a
few months into this school year, and told me that she was really missing her
friends at Holy Cross. He asked if there was anything we could do. So, the chil-
dren in the class all wrote letters to cheer her up. Her mother recently called me
and told me that she has the letters posted all around her room, and that she is
flying here next week in order to be with her friends at their graduation.
What else can I say? It doesn’t matter to them if a classmate has been here since
kindergarten our joined them this year. They are all one. This is reflected in the
theme that they have chosen for their graduation celebration “Our strides are all
different, our paths not the same, but we are all united, in the faith we proclaim.”
They will be missed, but their new high schools will be blessed to have them.
I wish them all of God’s Blessings,
Mrs. Gates
MATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP

grade. The Holy Cross fourth grade team members were: Seaera Baker, Jacob Colling and Marcia
Vasconcelos. Our fifth grade team took third place in the competition. Members of this team were:

these of students and all the students who participated in the Mathletics competitions throughout the

Accelerated Math with Mrs. Carney and Mr. Troyer
Accelerated Math is a computerized mathematics learning system designed to motivate every student to suc-
ceed. This fun and exciting way to learn math allows for individualized instruction, practice, and testing.
Holy Cross has been using this program in first through eighth grades for several years. We are offering sum-
mer tutoring utilizing this system for students entering first through eighth grades. The following is a list of
dates and times. Please place an “X” by each date and time your child will attend. Send a check for the
total amount to Allison Carney by May 16th. Space is limited.

Summer is right around the corner…
and that means Summer Movies!!! As you know, kids and parents LOVE it!
Here’s what you get…
For $13, you can see 8 shows at area Dickinson movie theatres (which
includes Palazzo 16 and The Great Mall)
One person can use a pass for 8 different shows (so buy a pass for
every family member!) OR, with one pass, you can
bring a few people to a few shows. OR, you can use it for a party with 7
kids and one adult…it’s very flexible…you decide.
These are PG rated shows that play at 10 AM or at 12:30 PM Monday –
Thursday for 8 weeks throughout the summer. A schedule is available.
Let’s face it, you can’t go to the pool every day this summer!
This is a great way to beat the summer heat and an inexpensive and
really fun treat for adults and kids.
Order deadline with payment is Wed, May 18th.
Any questions and to place your order:
[email protected] 913-685-0828
Please leave your name, phone and e-mail address. A schedule and
order form will be e-mailed to you. (Because this is a special community-wide program, please do not contact individual
theatres regarding passes.)
Dear Parents,
On Monday, May 23, 2011 we will be having our annual Holy Cross Field Day. The Kindergarten,
1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders will be participating in the Field Day events beginning at 8:30 AM. The 4th, 5th, and
6th graders will then have their turn at the Field Day events beginning at 12:00. In the event of rain, the
students will do the indoor events only with the same grades going at the same times listed above.
Our 7th graders are going to work the events just as last year, but we will need adult supervisors. If
you would be willing to help us out at Field Day this year, please return the bottom portion of this sheet to
me by Tuesday, May 17. Additional information will be sent to you after I receive the bottom portion of
this sheet.
Hotdogs will be served for lunch again this year. More information on this will be in the newslet-
ter. Also, the F.I.T. Club Assembly will be at 2:15 in the gym.
Field Day is an out of uniform day. Please make sure the apparel is appropriate for school as well
as for participation in Field Day.
Thank you!!
Sincerely yours,
Janine Obershaw

Lost and Found
The items from the Lost and Found bins have been on a table down by
the work room near Mrs. Carney's room as stated in the previous newsletter.
Items have been set out for 2 wks. The items that are not claimed by next
Monday will be taken to Catholic Charities. If your child is missing a pair
of pants, shoes, winter coat, Holy Cross sweatshirt or a lunch box chances
are it could be there.
School year 2011-2012
Please write your child’s first initial and last name on items such as:
H2O bottles, lunch boxes, backpacks,
Holy Cross sweatshirts, even their uniforms need names. When they are
finished with PE class sometimes those t-shirts and shorts get mixed up on
the floor. Same with practices after school. The kids may be in a hurry
and forget a skirt, shirt or pants.
From the nurses corner:
Dear Parents and Students,
Thank you all for the beautiful plant and scrip for Nurses day!! We
really appreciate everything! We are truly blessed to care for your chil-
dren and to be part of this awesome community.
God Bless you all;
Kathy Pikus & Polly Mandl
