    ThefollowinginstallationprocedurewillaidyouininstallingtheKPTechnologiesNavigationBypassInterfaceModuleintoa2009Maximawithnavigation.ThecreatorsofthisdocumentorKPTechnologiesarenotresponsibleforanydamagesincurredtoyourvehicleorselfasaresultofinstallationofthismoduleortheinstructionssetforthbelow.Improperinstallationmaycauseadverseeffectandthereforepleaseconsultaprofessionalpriortoattemptingthisprocedure.

    Steps

    1) DISCONNECTTHEBATTERYFROMTHECAR.Ifyoudont,variouselectronicsensors(airbag,powerwindows,etc.)willtrip.

    2) RemovetheNavigationPanel

    a. Placepaintersorelectrictapeonthetopedgeoftheradiopanelandsiderubberpanelstoprotectthemfromscratching.

    b. Carefullypositiontheedgeoftheflatheadscrewdrivereitherundertheleftorrightsectionofthenavigationpanel(underthevents).PushdownwardstowedgetheflatedgeofthescrewdriverinbetweentheNavigationandRadiopanels.Oncewedgedin,pullupwardsandoutwardswithafirmmovementtocreateanopening/gap.

    c. Slideyourfingersinthesmallgapandprythepaneltowardsyouandupinonefirm

    movement.Note:Itwillrequiresomeefforttopoptheclips.Youknowyouvedislodgedthepanelproperlywhenyouhearaloudpop.

    d. Onceyouveliftedthepaneloff,disconnectthe3connectorsonthebackofthepanelandsafelyplacethepanelaway.Thefollowingisapictureofthebacksideofthepanel.Note:Removaloftheactualnavigationscreenisunnecessary.

    3) RemovetheRadioPanel

    a. UsingaPhilipsscrewdriver,unscrewthetwoblackscrewsonthetopoftheradiopanel.Note:Thesescrews,whichareholdingtheradiopanelinplace,aretheonlytwoblackscrewsusedinthistutorial.Allotherscrewsaresilverincolorandareadifferentsize.

    b. Grabthepanelfromthetoprightandpulltowardsyoutopoptheclips.Thiswillbeaneasierpopthanthenavigationpanel.

    c. Usingyourfingerorflatheadscrewdriver,disconnecttheconnectorthatisonthebottomrightsideonthebackoftheradiopanel.Note:Allconnectorcablescanbedisconnectedusingjustyourthumbandforefinger.Screwdrivermightmakeiteasierbutisntnecessary.

    4) Removetheradio

    a. Oncetheradiopanelisremoved,youwillbelookingattheradiotray(cdplayer,compactflashcardreader,etc.).UsingaPhilipsscrewdriver,removethetwoscrewsinthebottomleftandrightcorners.

    b. UsingaPhilipsscrewdriver,removethetwoscrewsonthetopleftandrightcorners

    c. Slidetheradiotrayout.

    d. Thereareapproximately7connectorsonthebackoftheradiounitthatneedtobedisconnected.DisconnectALLconnectorsonthebackoftheunit.Safelyplacetheradiotrayaway.

    5) Connectwires

    a. Itisimportanttocorrectlyidentifythetwomainconnectors(A&B)whosewiresyoullbecuttingandconnectingtotheKPTechnologiesInterfaceBypassModule.ConnectorAisa2x20pinconnector.

    PLEASENOTE:ConnectorA(correct)vs.othersimilarconnector(incorrect).

    b. IdentifythefollowingwiresonthebackofconnectorAusingthefollowinglayout:

    NOTE:Thefollowingpinoutsarereferencedbylookingatthebackoftheconnectorwith thewirescomingouttowardsyou.

    i. Reversewire:Pinkw/BlackPIN#81

    ii. ACCPowerSupply:Violetw/YellowPIN#69

    iii. VehicleSpeedSense(VSS):Violetw/whitePIN#82

    c. TapetogethertheKPTechnologiesBypassModuleandRelaysothatallwiresare

    orientedinthesamedirection.

    d. ReadtheKPTechnologiesmanualaboutsettingthedelayduration(timeinseconds)andsetthedesireddelaytime(inthiscase,wesetthedialtoabout3oclock).

    e. Tuckthemoduleawaybelowinthemiddleofthedash.Itsadvisabletoensuretheunitdoesnthaveanywiggleroomtorattleagainstitssurroundings(unitwouldrattleateverypothole!).

    f. ConnectthewiresoftheKPTechnologiesBypassInterfaceModuleandRelayas

    indicatedinthefollowingwirediagramprovidedbyKPTechnologies:

    i. Pin#85onrelay(redwire)connecttogreenwirecomingoutofKPTechnologiesBypassInterfaceModule.

    ii. Pin#86onrelay(whitewire)connecttoyellowwirecomingoutofKPTechnologiesBypassInterfaceModule(connectinbetweenmoduleandinlinefuse,notafterfuse).

    iii. Connecttheendoftheyellowwiretotheviolet/yellowwire(Pin#69)inConnectorA.

    iv. ConnectpurplewireoftheKPTechnologiesBypassInterfaceModuletothepink/blackwire(Pin#81)inConnectorA.

    v. Underneathandtotheleftoftheupperleftvent,youwillseealargecopper

    connectorgroundedtothechassiswithmultipleblackwirescomingoutofit.Thisisacommonground.ConnecttheblackwirefromtheKPTechnologiesBypassInterfaceModuletoanyoneoftheblackwiresgoingintothisground.

    vi. CuttheVSSwire(violet/whitePin#82)comingoutofConnectorA.Note:Ensure

    youleaveabout2inchesofwirefromtheconnectorasyouwillneedtoutilizebothendsofthewire.Additionalnote:TheVSSwireistheONLYwirethatgetscut.Allotherwires(ground,ACC,reverse,etc)gettapped/spliced.

    vii. ConnectthebluewirefromtherelaytooneofthenowcutendsoftheVSSwire.ConnecttheblackwirefromtherelaytotheotherendofthenowcutVSSwire.Note:Itdoesnotmatterwhichwireisconnectedtowhichend.

    viii. Atthispoint,allwiresshouldhavebeenconnectedexceptthered/blacktwisted

    pairoftheKPTechnologiesBypassInterfaceModule.Runthattwistedpairupwardsthroughthesmallhorizontalopenslotrightunderthenavigationscreen.

    ix. Connectthered/blacktwistedpair(OKwires)totheOKwiresontheNavi

    controlmodule.

    1. TheNavicontrolmoduleisthesetofpinstowhichthe2x8connectorbelowconnectsto.ThisisConnectorB.

    2. Usingarazorblade,removeapproximately12inchesoftheelectricaltapeinsulationbehindConnectorB.

    3. FlipConnectorBaroundsothewiresarefacingyouandtheclipison

    top.ThetwoOKwirestotapareasfollows:

    a. Toprow,4thfromtheleft:greenw/orange

    b. Bottomrow,3rdfromtheleft:green

    4. ConnecttheblackwireofthetwistedpairtoeitheroftheOKwires,andtheredwiretotheotherOKwire.ItdoesnotmatterwhichwireofthetwistedpairconnectstowhichoftheOKwires.

    6) ReInstall

    a. Allwireshavebeenconnected.Youarenowdone.

    i. Reconnectallconnectorstothebackoftheradiotrayandreinstalltheradio.

    ii. ReconnectConnectorBtotheRadioPanel&installRadioPanel.

    iii. ReconnectallthreeconnectorsoftheNavicontrolmodulebacktotheNavigationpanel.

    7) ProgramtheModule

    a. FollowthedirectionsontheKPmanualtoprogramthemoduletoMode1.

    i. Inthismode,youhavetoholdtheOKbuttonfor2secondstoactivatethemodule.Youknowyouveactivatedthemodulewhenyouheartherelaymakeanaudibleclick.

    ii. Onceactivated,youcanusetheBluetoothphoneand/orenteranaddressinthenavigation.

    iii. Onceyouredoneenteringtheaddressorphonenumber,younowneedtodeactivatethemodule.ThisisdonebysimplyholdingtheOKbuttonfortwoseconds.Youwillagainheartherelayclick.Themoduleisnowdeactivated.

    iv. ItisimportanttoactivateanddeactivatethemodulebeforeandafterusingthephoneornavigationbecausethiswilldeactivateandactivatetheVehicleSpeedSensor.Ifyouforgettodeactivatethemodule,theVSSwillnotbeactiveandsincethe2009NavigationutilizestheVSStodeterminethecarspositionalongthenavigatedpath,thetrianglethatrepresentsthecarwillnevermovealongthepath.Itwillonlytwistandturn(whichreflectstheactivityoftheGPSsensors)butnevermovealongtheyellownavigationline.
