DoWntoWn anD QuEEn StrEEt corriDora renaissance is happening in Brampton – one that is especially evident alongthe Queen Street corridor extending from mclaughlin road to Bramalea road.the Queen Street corridor, including the historic downtown, is seeingdevelopment like never before. Seventeen new projects are planned includingresidential, commercial and mixed use within the next couple of years.

Extensive development is occurring at Bramalea road and Queen Street, anchoring the Queen Street corridor. morguard, owners of Bramalea city centre,is investing $160 million into their retail mall expansion located on Queen Streetbetween Dixie and Bramalea road. adjacent to the Bramalea city centre, the region of peel is expanding their headquarters by 175,000 square feetto accommodate the seat of regional government and police station. in addition, a new 38,000 square foot office building is under constructionat the corner of Queen and Bramalea road.

people have discovered that quality downtown living can be found in oneof the best-kept secrets in the greater toronto area – Brampton’s central core.the success of the condominium marketplace in Brampton’s central core isdriven by its vibrant arts and culture scene and its historic character. that saysa lot about the quality of life in Brampton, which was recognized in 2007 as aninternational Safe city by the World Health organization. more than 6,000 peoplecurrently live in the historic downtown core, and that number will rise as sevennew condominium and apartment projects are completed.

as one of the designated urban growth centres in the ontario government’slong term plan for growth management in the greater golden Horseshoe area, downtown Brampton will be planned to accommodate a more vertical anddiverse urban form. Bolstered by easy access to the rest of the gta throughtransit projects like the $300 million investment in acceleride, Brampton’s Busrapid transit project, and the existing go transit hub in the downtown,Brampton’s vision of urban redevelopment will become a reality.

A shAREd visionsince its earliest days, the "Four Corners" at the intersection of main andQueen street has been the financial centre and the heart of brampton.to expand the economic potential of brampton's historic downtown, thebrampton downtown development Corporation (bddC) was launchedin 2006, building on the success of the former b.i.A. - the bramptondowntown business Association.

Representing more than 350 businesses and property owners, the bddC'sgoal is to strengthen the prosperity, quality and vitality of downtownbrampton.

the new bddC is ontario's first economic development corporation of itskind. the bddC is a public-private partnership between the downtownbusiness community and the City of brampton. there is a shared vision ofrevitalization that focuses on creating an active and prosperous centre forbusiness, a creative place for artistic and cultural experiences and a vibranturban environment for residents, employees and visitors.

the bddC mandate has been expanded beyond the responsibilities of theb.i.A. to include:• marketing and promotion of the downtown• Attraction and retention of business• Recruitment of new residential, commercial and institutional investment

A stRonG FoundAtion FoR A bRiGht FutuREmore than 2,000 new residential units, either under construction or in theplanning stages, will enhance Downtown’s reputation as a people place.

Home to the world-class rose theatre, Beaux-arts and the peel Heritagecomplex, which includes the peel art gallery/museum, peel archives and theHistoric peel courthouse, downtown Brampton is developing into the cultural, entertainment and dining destination for the city. Heritage buildings, artistic andcultural facilities and a thriving residential and commercial community areessential building blocks for the future. in partnership with the city of Brampton, the BDDc will continue to build on Downtown’s historic character to make it the vibrant centre of canada’s 11th largest city.
