PreparationPhotocopy the worksheet. Make one copy for eachpair of students in the class.

Procedure1 Divide the students into pairs.

2 Give one worksheet to each pair and allowthem a few minutes to familiarize themselveswith the question types.

3 Explain how to play the game. Student Ashould think of a famous person who is aliveand write that name on a piece of paper.Student B should not know who student A haschosen. Student B must ask yes / no questionsand try to discover the name of the personstudent A has chosen. Student A can answeronly with yes or no and short answers (Yes, he

is. / No, she doesn’t.)

4 Student B is allowed only 20 questions todiscover who student A has chosen. If he / shedoes not succeed with 20 questions or less, student A wins and can reveal who his / herperson is. Student B then thinks of a famousperson who is alive and student A asksquestions.

OptionThis can be played as a group. One student (oryou) should think of a famous person who is aliveand the class members take turns askingquestions. To make sure all students participate, suggest that they ask in order of where they areseated. Students must wait their turn to ask aquestion, even if they know the answer. Theperson who guesses correctly gets to think of afamous person for the next round.

Additional ideasWrite the names of famous people (all of themshould be well known by the students) on blankwhite stickers. Place one tag on each student’sforehead. Students should move around the roomasking questions about themselves (yes / no

questions only) until they guess who they are.
