• U.S. portion of the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) – worldwide coordinate system based on 10
• Grid is always there - if you have a disaster you are going to need a grid
• Designed to be taught to an 8th grader in 15 minutes
• Number of digits shown increases the accuracy – 4 is 1000 meter, 6 digits is 100 meter accuracy
• 8 digits – two digits less than a telephone number is 10 meter accuracy – 33’ within 62 miles
