Second Grade Dear Students, Welcome to Second Grade! We are very excited to have you in our class next year! Second grade is a fun and exciting year full of new beginnings and experiences! In order to prepare for 2nd grade, you will need to complete the following summer work. First, you will be required to read two books. One is assigned and the other will be a book of your choice, from the attached list. For the assigned book, Ira Sleeps Over, you must complete the Book Report. This form was supplied to each student at Step-Up Day and is due on the first day of school. For the book of your choice, you will be required to take an Accelerated Reader test during the first week of school. Please review the list carefully, and choose a book that you will really enjoy! We have also attached a Summer Reading Log that you can fill out with any other books you read this summer! Along with reading, you will be expected to complete assigned IXL Math and IXL Language Arts skills practice. Please refer to the attached— Summer Work, Grade 2. In addition to the assigned work, if you would like more math and/or grammar practice, please complete any of the IXL Math or Language Arts skills in the Grade 1 Library. IXL is a great tool to use to review the material taught in 1st grade, and extra practice over the summer will help you to feel very prepared for 2nd grade! We hope that you have a wonderful summer vacation. If you do any traveling, please send us a postcard to the school office. We will display your postcards in the classroom at the beginning of the year. We look forward to hearing all about your summer when you return in August. Have fun-you deserve it! Have a great summer!
